Namor casting threads (mergedx4) Don't make anymore

Michael Keaton. C'mon now as Namor. Get real. Imagine him with his shirt off even 10 years ago. LOL No chance. Namor doesn't look like your average White guy.

Actually, around 10 years ago (1998) Keaton was in a film called Desperate Measures. A lot of the talk of that film was the fantastic shape that he was in. I can only find the below image but I recall a trailer at the time showing him working out in prison and he was pretty pumped (he looked a damn sight better than it the image).

Not that I'm in any way suggesting that he ever was in the kinda shape needed for Namor (or even close); just saying that people seem to assume that Keaton has never 'worked out' or something. I think it stems from the whole Batman thing.............

Anyway, it's all a moot point because I don't think he'd have been right for Namor either.

Oh good God c'mon. That's the worst choice ever! Why because he waxed his eyebrows that way and someone sprayed fake sweat on him while he's holding his stomach in? LOL I'm usually open to weird casting but that's just horrible. He looks like he has aids in that picture.

Ian Somerhalder has the face, the body (although hed have to bulk up a bit), he can work the eyebrows and he is good at playing a cocky character.

Actually, watching that trailer, I wouldn't have minded Keaton as Namor. Physically he was pretty much perfect (just needed a chest wax) and I know he always had the acting chops to pull it off...He's actually the ideal Namor to me.

Too bad about that height.

I am not saying Keaton now, I'm saying Keaton years ago with, as Savage pointed out, a much needed chest wax. But you can't deny that Keaton has the perfect hairstyle and eyebrows for the role.

AD - you'll notice I actually said that he'd be wrong for Namor, or rather that he wouldnt be right for him. :cwink:

My point was that people use Keaton as some sort of an example to demonstrate when an actor doesnt work out; I feel he gets a bit of uncalled for derision.

For example, someone on the Bat forums said that Adam West was in better physical shape when he did the tv series than Keaton was for B89 - infact, they called him the most physcially unfit actor to play Bats

Didn't read your post right I guess...sorry. I think he would have been a great Jigsaw 10 years ago but never Namor.

I'd laugh so much if it just became another Mel Gibson war film.

Namor (Mel Gibson) is trying to live a nice quiet life and has renounced fighting, but when the English turn up and threaten his family and way of life he leads a small group in to battle against the overwhelming English Armies!!!! He learns that the only way to protect his people is to fight for his nations FREEDOM!!!!!

My choice is Jason Isaacs (face exactly like mature King Namor) but he's too old by 2010.

So Ian Somerhalder is the best one.

get Dwayne Johnson, lure him away from the captain marvel project.. then again, if he ends up playing Black Adam, at least in Namor he'll be the hero..

Agreed. Keaton wouldve been great as Jigsaw - I watched Pacific Heights again only the other day and it's easy to see how Keaton's simply owned at playing derranged bad guys.

In retrospect, Keaton was even ridiculous as Batman, but it goes to show that good acting can overcome shortcomings.
To me a good Namor would be someone with a tight, aristocratic type, european face but with almost asian eyes, definitely young, tall, slender, but in peak shape.
Is this movie even in considerations still?

You guys who want The Rock, take note.

bah... wrestling fans are too fixated in seeing their idols in these movies... Triple H as Thor, The Rock as Namor...
Seriously though, I don't think Rock could act the part.

Oh if that's the case then I suggest The Transporter 2's Alessandro Gassman.

Guy's a pretty good actor and 6'3 1/2 but he is 42 right now so I don't know if that'd be an issue.

Yeah, at 43 that's a bit much for a film that may potentially have sequals. If it was a stand-alone film the guy would be perfect. Facially and body wise (6'3" and ripped like a mofo) he fits the bill.

Yah he actually looks the part, but if he is 43, he'll probably be 46 by the time the get around to making one, 48 by the time it comes out... Then what, by the time they rap up the trilogy, he's almost mid-50's?
Hollywood is good at concealing age though.

A Namor trilogy? Wont happen.

^ Namor is not a one film deal Cookiva. If it's successful and makes money I'd count on more than 3 films. Perhaps the first story arc will be a trilogy, then we might see crossovers with Namor, etc...One film at a time though.

I mentioned trilogy, as it is a basic Western ideology that things come in three's, and Hollywood in turn has fallen in that pattern.
But to say that any Marvel character hasn't the potential for a franchise is underestimating the effectiveness of the characters.
Granted, Namor was never that popular, his series didn't go that far, but even within the storylines he has been involved in, you've already got the foundation for a few films.
Hell, in a perfect nerd world, each Marvel character could have an ongoing television series... But for that we will have to wait for the cost of CGI to go down drastically... Cuz crap like smallville is just soap operas for guys... I need me some super-villains and good effects... And improbable costumes damn it.

What company is Namor with anyway? I'd say just jam him with the Fantastic Four since he'd probably fit better anyway. If not then chances are they're going with Black Panther.:oldrazz:

Ah wtf... Enough with fantastic four.. Shows how much their movies suck when they already have 4 hero's and a main antagonist to work with, and they still can't make something quality without dragging another hero into the franchise.

Hey, I think they have something good going here. Why can't these characters start out in the series they're famous for getting their start in (or in Namor's case revived)?

I mean I know I'd like Cap to be thawed by the Avengers.

Exactly. Anyone who really thinks that this film is going to make enough money to warrant more than a standalone film is an extreme fanboy. Now, I love the character, but he is definitly not a character who can carry his own trilogy. Now, in someone else's film, such as an FF film, sure, but I cant see anything else.
