Namor casting threads (mergedx4) Don't make anymore

Hey, I think they have something good going here. Why can't these characters start out in the series they're famous for getting their start in (or in Namor's case revived)?

I mean I know I'd like Cap to be thawed by the Avengers.

I agree with you on that level, and I'd be fine with it if the Fantastic Four movies we're better then half decent I'd be all for it.
But they feel cheap and empty as movies, and I feel it cheapens whoever is featured in the film.

As for the Avengers thing, I'm thinking Cap will have his solo movie come out before, I assume all main members will be formally introduced prior to the movie, which will be good since things won't get as cluttered and messy as the X-Men.

Plus in this science conscientious era we live in, I don't take people would take well to the premise of Captain America floating as an ice cube for generations, and then unthawed back to life... Even in a comic movie, ppl want some semblance of logic.

How about Zen Gesner?

Holy crap! Do you have an eye or what?!
I don't recall ever seeing act though, and the films he's been in seem pretty crap, but hey, maybe he just needs that one project suited for him.

Sheesh, Zen Gesner even sounds like an Atlantean name to me!

Admittedly, I've only seen him in Farrelly Brothers movies but he's got the look down pat. He is 37 though so is no doubt to damn old. :csad:

Jeez - he even has pointy ears.

Damn.

Exactly. Anyone who really thinks that this film is going to make enough money to warrant more than a standalone film is an extreme fanboy. Now, I love the character, but he is definitly not a character who can carry his own trilogy. Now, in someone else's film, such as an FF film, sure, but I cant see anything else.

That's not true. Any character can carry a trilogy. These characters aren't embedded in today's film culture. Most people have no idea who Namor. So when it comes to film it COULD be the next big thing. It's all about how they make it and market it. Who the hell was Jack Sparrow or Indiana Jones before their first films. There's no reason that Namor can't be a continuing franchise but we need to see how they make the 1st one to determine if it'll be worthy, make money, etc...You can't say it won't make enough money because we haven't seen it yet. We don't even know if Mostow is still attached. It's a huge project and these characters are completely new to most everyone in the audience and they have no pre-conception of what to expect. Marketing & the talent will do that.

Exactamundo!
Even a crap movie like Ghost Rider didn't do that bad at the box office, and he was just as obscure as Namor is. But unfortunately, the character feel in the wrong hands, and it is doubtful we will have a franchise.

Zen is 37? Hmm, well that is borderline, but he looks damn young, but again, does he have the acting chops?
Namor isn't an obvious character to play.

I never even thought of Statham but you know what...I can see it. Someone do a manip with his hair and ears.

Jullian McMahon would have made a MUCH better Namor than he did a Doom. Too bad about that piece of casting. :csad:

Statham could work. He may seem reluctant right now, but hey, so was Thomas Jane with The Punisher at first.

Cryogenics is a real science, and it has been used in sci-fi enough that audiences will accept the idea without to much effort.

I just have a hunch. :) Not talking about Cap movie but they'll probably start filming that one in 2009 or 2010.

Yah ok, I have put a fly in the freezer and revived it a half hour later... But a dude in a giant icecube unthawing after half a century seems silly.
Guess the super solder serum saved his tissue from damage...
Plus so far haven't they just figured out how to freeze people, not how to unthawn them?

Nope. Cryogenics have been proven to work. And the official explaination for Cap really is that the super soldier serum was what saved him.

I don't see how this character would work in a solo film... Universal should sell him to Fox or give it back to Marvel so he can be in Avengers. A solo Namor would not make any money.

Yeah, I honestly think he's better off playing a role similar to the Silver Surfer in a Fantastic Four movie. Or even just being an all out villain. Or even an Avengers movie where they have to face an underwater threat or something. Just not a movie on his own. Krang, Tigershark, Merrano, Attuma...eeeh. Not exactly villains I'm interested in seeing unless done well.
