National Day of Repentance! (Warning: Spoiler)

At a young age, Tai's parents knew that there was something different about their boy. Especially when it came to play time...

I agree that the founders would be sickened today, but it would mostly be by the creation of an Office of God or whatever they created in this White House.
um...just to let you know, but the majority of our US presidents (especialy the first chunk) were religious as well.

How is this "horrible"? I really dont understand you guys. We have countless National Holidays that are of a religious context that were condoned by our government. Christmas, Easter, National Prayer at the Flag Pole Day (or what eevr its called), not even including the non christian ones.

Honestly, how is this day going to affect you or the nation any differently then any other holiday? If you dont feel like celebrating a particular holiday, what do you do? You simply dont celebrate it. This one is no different. Its not like SS Agents will be knocking down your door to make sure you are repenting.

Is just a freaking holiday, to simply say "hey, everyone should say they're sorry for the wrong things they do and try to be better people." And you all are *****ing about that?

Wow. What a bunch of ****ers.

There is supposed to be a separation of church and state in this country. A holiday like this does not uphold that. Nor does it take anyone but Christians into account. And, the last time I checked, the President wasn't authorized by any church to declare any day at all an official day for repentance. Not only that, but not every Christian faction recognizes repentance, so it's even causing division amongst Christians. Lame.

P.S. - Thanks for being all Christian-like and calling us a bunch of ****ers, Spider-Who.

Its horrible because if a little Jewish girl had a 'vision' she wouldn't get an audience with the president, and certainly not a national holiday. Its favoritism on the part of the government toward one particular belief system. Nobody claimed that the endorsement of Christmas and Easter were right, either. They've at least had a bit of a secular alternate personality attatched to them, which makes them less inflamatory. I would support a movement to take all religious-rooted holidays out of the list of government holidays. What do you think would happen if a president tried to initiate a day of 'Prayer to Allah for forgiveness'? The same people defending this repentence day would s*** themselves to stop it at all costs.

Its much, much more complicated than 'just don't celebrate it.' This is one of those situations where the effects are many and tend to be under the radar. A government endorsing a holiday that has obvious roots and terminology from one particular belief system does equal the government endorsing the belief system itself, which is extremely problematic. Its similar to the effects the constant barrage of skinny supermodels is having on young girls-- no one is saying exactly 'you have to be thin' but its everywhere and its endorsed publicly as beauty. The government is not saying 'you must be Christian', but it endorses Christianity and holds it up as the American standard. What then does that say/do to those who are of another faith system? It systematically reminds them that they are outsiders and not a part of the ideal America.

The 'shut your eyes and ignore it if you don't like it' mentality is the lazy response of those who are comfortably in the majority.

What I find "Disturbing" is Where AMERICA is today...Morals, Beliefs, Politics, etc...If the Founders of America saw where we were today, they would be totally and utterly sickened by how people threw away their values...
I'm sick and tired of America just thrusting Sin Upon young children, teen, young adults, etc... "At one time, America did have a head on It's Shoulders."

they'd be upset that you let the coloreds vote and walk freely and stuff too.
plus, family values have NOTHING to do with religion, if a pit of eternal damnation is all that keeps you from doing the wrong thing, you're an evil, selfish human being worthy of mistrust and pity.

There is supposed to be a separation of church and state in this country. Yes. And an example of going against this would be the Government telling us what to believe and how to worship.

A holiday like this does not uphold that. I beg to differ. This "holiday" is not telling us who to believe in and how to do so. Nor does it take anyone but Christians into account. Granted, the term "repentence" has a large christian undertone, but how can you say that the idea of repentence is soley christian? So, its only christians who believe in stopping one's immoral ways and "turning a new leaf"? Hmmm. And, the last time I checked, the President wasn't authorized by any church to declare any day at all an official day for repentance. Right, and if he did, THAT would make it unconstitutional; but he is doing it all on his own, with no church lobbying for him to do so. Not only that, but not every Christian faction recognizes repentance, so it's even causing division amongst Christians. Lame. Are you kidding? Really. So, you're telling me, that one of the most important aspect of christianity (or any religion for that matter) isnt even held true by all factions? Thats funny. I'd like to know which butt crack you pulled that one out of....

P.S. - Thanks for being all Christian-like and calling us a bunch of ****ers, Spider-Who.

Yeah, I calls em like I sees em.

Thats the problem with being the majority. Everyone else hates you.

(I'd write a much more intellectual response, but I have to go to bed. Good post though. I respect it. Will have thoughts posted tomorrow.)

The first 3 were deists
Yes, and last I checked, Deists still believed in God, as well as these 4 mind sets:
God exists and created the universe.

God wants human beings to behave morally.

Human beings have souls that survive death; that is, there is an afterlife.

In the afterlife, God will reward moral behavior and punish immoral behavior.

The last 3 of which are dependent on repentence. Whats your point?

Repentence is a universal concept. You all are just getting hung up on the stereotypical christain aspect of it. EVERYONE repents. You know how you ****ed up your last relationship, and you promised that with the next girl, you wouldnt make that mistake again? Guess what, thats repentence. You dont have to be religious to be penatent.

I know, right!! He is seriously testing my patience.

Last time I checked it wasn't the president's job to be a morality enforcer to the people...

Stop being so damn serious, the thread is obviously a joke.

I think Tai is some comedian working on his stand-up routine.

**** like that ain't real...

...or is it. :(

I don't know, I checked it out on several news sites and I couldn't find anything. I just pray (pun intended) that he's lying...I'm moving to Germany just to be safe though. :o

Oh please. The minority doesn't hate the majority. The minority just hate it when the majority acts like a bunch of ignorant asshats.
