Arrow Neal McDonough cast as Damien Darhk

Portman would have been fine if she was actually trying.

Eh, I don't think she's given much to work with so I can't really blame her.

Maybe not, but in the second movie it seemed like she didn't give a crap (even though Thor: TDW was garbage anyway). I liked her in the first film though.

Probably because she didn't. Apart from the movie being bad, she was upset with Marvel for the director situation.

Yep, she was good in the first movie, only in TDW did she phone it in, at least for me.

What you all seem to be saying is "Marvel should cast worse quality actors in supporting roles".

I love Neal (he was scary as hell on Justified). But it amazes me that the writers of Arrow think that spelling "dark" in a weird way will somehow make this character's name sound less stupid.

Darhk is how his name was spelt in the comics.

Oh.

Sorry, I thought I read that he was an original character loosely based on Damien Wayne.

I read those reports too back when they came out in March. Those guys were so far off with that theory :funny:. He was a Teen Titans villain.

What we're saying is that they should stop wasting talent.

And the way to do that is apparently. . . cast someone inferior for supporting roles. Because a supporting role is not going to magically cease to be a supporting role.

A worse actor than, say, Morgan Freeman isn't necessarily a poor actor in general.

Because a supporting role is not going to magically cease to be a supporting role.

That's really not the point.

There's nothing inherently wrong with getting talented actors for supporting roles. However, if you aren't going to take advantage of their talent, why cast them in the first place?

^Recognition, obviously. Adding a talented actor sends the message that the film is worth seeing, and perhaps more importantly, worth being in, worth giving your best to to make it the best it can be. Doing SFX for Danny Glover is cool, doing SFX for Morgan Freeman is awesome.

It'd be nice if Marvel was interested in making their supporting roles, villains included, interesting and awesome. But the Marvel way is that they're kinda glorified easter eggs. And that's been working EXTREMELY well for them, so they're not going to all of a sudden add a bunch of effort into these supporting roles.

This is off topic Dr. Cosmic, but Marvel is a lot more interested usually in developing their heroes since most of their heroes were at the time of their introduction relatively unknown. Making good heroes isn't a bad thing

And Marvel heroes weren't that heroic either, for example Thor in Thor TDW and Avengers AoU and Iron Man in IM 2 and IM 3 and in Avengers: AoU. :oldrazz:

yeah but bruce , DW had an entire backstory that showed ODIN being a *****e and starting the genocide on malkeths world ... the maus didnt like that idea and subsequently had the footage removed from the final cut ( just look it up in the THOR DW DIRECTORS CUT articles)

NEAL is a certifiable prick in all his roles ( total *****ebag , and i woulda liked to see him as Raz *i refuse to spell it correctly* ) ... i just hope he is a bigger a-hole than slade in season 5 :woot:

He is owning the role

This thread should be more active. What a fantastic villain he has been. Neal has been superb playing him. I wonder how he will react to losing his powers. He is always so calm and confident, making jokes while he fights and bosses people around. I wonder will he now lose his confidence and start to become more desperate and cowardly.

I agree with you. Neal has been great in the role. Damien Darhk is my favorite Big Bad of this show along with Slade. Neal brings a large amount of charisma, intelligence, and menace to the character.

Certainly more fun that Ra's.
