Neil Blompkamp's Chappie

Naked Snake. Solid Snake. Liquid Snake. Disgusting!

Anyway, Jackman wouldn't be a bad choice for Snake. What happened to the Metal Gear movie?

Just saw this trailer for the first time. This looks really great, I love Chappie's design. I still haven't seen Elysium, I need to go back and watch that.

Honestly this looks kinda stupid to me. I didn't love Elysium either. Just do District 10 already Neil.

Dollar boxers?:hehe:

People don't like South Africans? I didn't know that, I don't think I've ever heard a negative word about them in my life.

There are a few examples of poking fun at South Africans, mainly due to problematic portrayals like Kruger from Elysium :hehe: But there are decent ones like Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar in Invictus.

Hopefully it's been mothballed...I might be overly pessimistic, but I'm not sure they could ever do an MGS movie justice. I mean where do they start? Can MGS1 be done justice in a 130 min movie? I'm skeptical...It's one of my favorite gaming franchises, I'd hate if they Uwe Boll'd it.

My problem with a MGS movie is this: MGS is already a movie.

It sort of does because of how oddly serious the trailer is. With the premise and cast you'd think this would fit more as an odd-ball pseudo comedy rather than emotional sci-fi drama?

I loved D9 and I feel that's probably going to stay as Neil's premiere film.

So I actually thought of this while i was watching Big Hero Six tonight but based on the trailer Chappie seems almost like an adult take on that movie?

There were a few scenes with the Big 6 robot that seemed quite similar to what was shown in the Chappie trailer.

New trailer will be out today. Looking forward to it. Hope theres quite a bit of new footage.

Whoever they get to play Solid Snake has to be okay with wearing an eyepatch. Like the video game version of Solid Snake and Snake Plissken before him, the best Snake is a one-eyed Snake.

I wouldnt have said this years ago but I kind of think Keanu Reeves would make a pretty good Solid Snake, I have always thought SS as being some what effeminate and aloof which i think Keanu could do quite well.

I was very interested in the concept but then I saw the trailer and it stars Die Antwoord in Die Antwoord character mode. Imma pass.

Does anyone think this movie qualifies as cyberpunk?

There's definitely a punk rock energy to the trailer.

The new trailer looks great, this looks more in the vein of D9.

Also, it's good to see Ed-209 getting regular work again. I thought after Robocop 3 his career was finished, but this will be 2 movies in 2 years he has starred in now.

Incredible stuff. It's what the new Robocop should of been.

the footage looks good. the story sounds like it should work. but the dialoge is very bad IMO. i hope it was recorded only for trailers for the general public.

i think D9 worked because it was not dumbed down for the 8-80 crowd. Elysium was for the 1-80 crowd. i hope hoooooooooooope that this movie will work.

Hopefully this doesn't have the subtle as a sledgehammer commentary like Elysium did. It kind of seems like that, as Weaver's character almost looks Jodi Foster like. But hopefully Jackman's character has actual depth to him and human empathetic reasoning as to why he's like this and not just a caricature of "I'M AN AUTHORITY FIGURE AND I HATE PROGRESS!"

I am cheering for Blomkamp but I just have this terrible feeling that he is a one hit wonder.

Wow, I want to like the trailer but it all feels so..damn familiar.

I think that looks great. I have a feeling alot more people would think so had it not been for his last film. A film which itself had a massively celebrated trailer. It's kinda interesting the pendulum and all that affects it.

I also like that this director chooses to push for original work, in sci-fi no less. I do think it would be cool if he was the one to take on a Robocop and or Aliens. He's got the sensibilities for it, on a visual level at the very least. Plus his go to third acts that involve some sort of hunting and ordeal would fit right at home in a Robocop movie.

This film will be crucial for him. Another bomb would hurt, another hit would square him up. Either way I think that like Snyder, he will need to find an established franchise after this.
