Fantasy Netflix's One Piece Live-Action TV Show

I will just say this, it is okay to have complaints. And I am sure there are plenty of issues with middle eastern casting to deal with. As dutch-german uber white guy, colorism debates make me uncomfortable, because it is very much not my place to say if someone is the right color or not.

Where I object is that you claim this is a decades long conspiracy, and go to an antisemitic place, rather than the very, very obvious reason on why islamophobia is fairly pervasive in US culture for 21 years. Yes, the production company's CEO supports Israel. But unless they have said something very clear, I would be hesitant to create malice out of assumptions.
Isn't the production company from the UK? Not that it changes much.

I hate that whenever this stuff goes down, it turns into a war about how dark someone's skin color is. That people defaulted to screaming at the actress and complaining about her being "black" is so painfully familiar. Even those with some theoretical righteous anger over it, a) ignore Oda's original work and b) suddenly act like every person from that part of the world looks a very specific, lighter, way.

want to chime in a little bit

It is always interesting to me that the outrages over casting is always happening outside Japan.

Here, we are mostly cool with it, especially since Oda-sensei himself is the one who picked the actress. He creates his characters, he creates his world, so he knows better than most of those people. So, complaining about it is kind of pointless, isn't it?

And I'd also like to point out to one of the comment made by one of the fans here, asking what exactly that these so called "fans" have had learned about One Piece?
Because One Piece is story about acceptance and diversity, so why are those people complaining about the skin color of the actress?? And the worst, they bullying her online!...These people said that they are "fans" or "Nakama" but act like "Tenryuubito (Celestial Dragon people)"

It's such a good point. Because if you have a problem with this casting you should have a problem with the original work. But these "fans" twist themselves in knots to attack a woman because her skin is "too dark" for their liking.

I never really understood that, especially with fantasy settings where it might be partially based on the real world but clearly is not. We don't have to carry over all the real life problems into something entirely fictional.

Every location in One Piece is a mashup of real places/cultures but not necessarily of the people from there themselves.

The new season is currently set to shoot for over 207 days, with production due to kick off in Cape Town, South Africa, which the series has called home since season 1, beginning November 24th, 2025. According to production listings, the series won’t wrap up until June 19th, 2026.

I could go on a very long diatribe about how non-japanese view japanese media.

How do the Japanese Street Fighter fans view white, non-Asian Andrew Schulz playing Asian, non-wite Dan Hibiki in Street Fighter?

Cannot speak on every Japanese fans' behalf, of course, but what I can say is that...in general, it really wasn't that big of a deal here.

If the movie is hollywood production, then obviously most will understand that the cast will be mostly white caucasian actors/actress.
The casting issue rarely become such a huge commotion nor controversial in here...thats why there were almost no outrages over ScarJo in Ghost in the Shell, and now...the Street Fighter movie.
