New Constantine Movie?

"different director but Francis [Lawrence] will produce it, we will maintain his vision.""

Oh Gawd :( I can understand why people like it, if they haven't read the original source material, hell I even enjoyed it. But when the dust clears, it was quite sad what was done to Hellblazer, it was turned into a mediocre rip-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Blade, when it's anything but... Real Constantine doesn't do magic, he just BSs his way out of everything, and he certainly doesn't give a **** about anything. So hopefully they'll bring it closer to the comic, which would indeed be CHEAPER to make, then another extravagant Blade Rip-off...

Hell yeah! I really liked the first one.

As Hellblazer is a fav comic of mine, I'm really torn, whilst the constantine film was OK, it was a sin to claim any connection to hellblazer. I'd prefer a restart

It could easily be changed into a more faithful adaptation while still holding some of the more cinematic nuances of the film, for example Constantine doing magic, whether people like it or not, it'd be far too hard to sell a movie about magic without the main user doing magic, so as long as they tone it down, I wouldn't mind a fireball here and there, as long he relies more on his wit ala the scene with the holy water that was classic Hellblazer. So as long as it sans Akiva Goldsman and very little involvement from Francis, the visual style was decent enough... It could be good...

Ted Thoedore Logan is just not John Constantine. The first movie had its moments, but overall it was weak.

That's really bull****. Constantine is British. He has a very noticeble working class British accent. It wouldn't sound silly. It would sound like a British person from the meaner parts of London. Which is what John Constantine is.

Im sure he was supposed to be from liverpool?

Oh the guy from liverpool: I met soemone from liverpool a year or two ago at a television event in scotland, and he was a firefly fan like me, and we kept in touch for a while and discussed serenity...just wondering, is that you by any chance? :P

Constantine left liverpool in his late teens and had been living in london up to the present so in the comic books he had a london accent as he lost the scouse one.

At long as keanu does not do his british accent again I'm happy. Just because his mother is from the UK don't mean he can do the accent. If you want proof watch Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I wish they had did go with the blonde british constantine and the called the movie Hellblazer as well.

Oh my God, his Dracula accent was awful. Richard E Grant even said in an interview that he had problems not laughing when filming scenes with him.

See I am not familiar with the comic, and I love the show angel, and constantine was more or less a movie version of angel, so maybe thats why I loved it so much.

I really loved the videogame too :D

I liked the movie alot, and I had read like 4 Hellblazer comics beforehand, maybe that's why I liked the film version... I think it should be thought of as a seperate project, having it's own universe, not being in the same one as the comic... just the basics being the same.

I think fireballs maybe a little too far, but the excorsism scene was good, we need him doing little bits, using things others give him. Would be nice to see something along the lines of the original sins arc perhaps? Where we keep getting minor flashbacks to a big event in newcastle(similar to dead man's shoes) and his freinds die throughout the film and haunt him? Could character piece i'd say.

Keanu himself has admitted that he thought he sucked in Dracula.

If Constantine 2 happens I want him to have blonde hair, have a swagger, be a complete and utter *******, and I was hoping to have his attitude also be in the vein of Keanu's performance in The Gift.

Something about Keanu's performance in that film seemed very Constantine like to me.

One things for sure though, Keanu scared the **** out of me with that performance.

What the hell are you talking about? Constantine does magic. It's just not any magic that's particularly useful in a fight. All of his magic is ritual based. In fact, the only thing that gives him an edge in a fight is the fact that he has demonic blood, which may giving him enhanced recouperative abilities (at the very least, a blood transfusion from him will heal almost anything).

Anyway, persobally, I think if they do a real, more faithful Hellblazer film, they should cast James Marsters are Constantine. I know it's a bit of type casting, as John and Spike are very very similar (although Spike's a good deal more violent), but he'd just be perfect. He's got the swagger, the accent, and the "I don't care about anyone but myself except for sometimes" aditude down cold.

I just wish he was a brit in the film......I couldn't describe how I would felt if Wolverine wasn't Canadian in the X films.

I wonder how much they'll stick with the first one. I don't know if I could deal with a Constantine that chews gum.

When it was first announec that KEanu would be starring in this movie post-matrix , i began reading the HellBlazer GN.
And have been doing so since 2004. While i do agree that the movie Constantine itself has nothing to do the earlier HellBlazer books , i do think that the latest books are very much in the same style as the movie. I still think that Francis Lawrence made a AWESOME flick and i'd higly recommend it to any non-hellblazer fan. Constantine is very much a movie where CGI works seamlessly , doesn't follow the traditional clihe crap and has a great visual style to it.

And it's useless trying to recast the role or want Constantine to be/talk british or have him be blond. Face it ain't gonna happen. Live with it !

Anyways which books to you think they'll use this time for the sequel ?
I'd rather see them use "All His Engines " since it has all the dark elements for a good constantine movie.
Voodoo crap : Check
Constantine saving a person : check
constantine being cynical : check
constantine bluffing : check
Demons created thru CGI : Check
Really filthy demon : Check

They could either go with that or "Stations of the cross " , "Black Flowers" etc.

And just for personal reasons i'd like them to incorporate some scenes and dialogues of "Son Of Man "which IMO is the funniest HellBlazer graphic novel ever. The part with the demon who has a 1 metre dick and the scene where a possesed guy tells constantine that his dad sucks dick in hell and constantine reply are truly priceless :woot:

Exclusive: Will Constantine 2 Ever Happen?
"A darker, harder version" is waiting to get made, says producer.

Over the years, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has certainly felt the heat from the fans of the various game, toy, and comic-book franchises he has adapted to the big screen: Doom, Transformers, Stardust. But perhaps the hairiest fan reaction came from his film version of the DC Comics Vertigo character John Constantine, which took the blonde-haired, British sorcerer-detective and turned him into a dark-haired, American Keanu Reeves.

And yet, despite the initial wariness of comic fans, Constantine wound up being relatively well-received when it was released in 2005. In fact, its director, Francis Lawrence, used the picture -- his feature debut -- as a stepping stone to getting his next gig on the high-profile Will Smith actioner I Am Legend. But what about the oft-discussed Constantine 2? Will that sequel ever come to be? Di Bonaventura says your guess is as good as his.

"I wish I knew the answer to that," he says. "That would really be a Warner Bros. executive question. I know all the filmmakers want to try to make number two. We love the character. We're hoping that we can find a way to make even, I'll say, a darker, harder version of it. We're not at that place yet where we really have the ability to get that done, but I know Keanu wants to play that and all of us think that there is a natural, new and darker adventure with Constantine."

So the sequel idea isn't dead, don't buy your tickets quite yet. And also, be prepared for the possibility of more changes to the original comic in the case that the sequel actually does get a green light.

"I never have a problem with naysayers at all," says di Bonaventura. "I think that everybody is entitled to feel it. But the place where it gets hard for us as filmmakers is where it cuts off an avenue of decision-making before we've gotten there. So that's the place where I try to be very protective of the writers and the directors and the artists that I'm working with, because I don't know where they're going to end up. And until I know that, I'm going to defend them to a tee."

constantine was such an awesome movie... one of the best, and most underrated of the last few years for me.

if the same talent is behind this one, count me in.

I enjoyed the first one so I hope the sequel gets the green light to start

The first one was alright to begin with, the latter half was poorly worked out and the conlcusion was horrifically bad. Start again and make a Hellblazer movie...

Any word on if Keanu wants in?

after the first one was released he said he would be open to more sequels. that was more than 2 years ago though, so who knows?? then again, Keanu hasn't really been in anything after that.

either way, i hope WB still has plans for a sequel. i loved the first one

I thought Reeves was no longer interested...
