New Gatchaman CG Film!

An artist at IMAGI, Felix Ip, has posted some concept art he did for the movies that was NOT used. But notice how the designs seem to resemble the 90's OVA's quite a bit, much like the poster:

I can understand why his designs weren't used since there Red X's.

What?! So the thing is back in development hell?

WEll I have always believed that this has great potential for an epic life action serious film, if done right. It doesn't matter that most people in the u.s. don't know what g-force or gatchaman or BOTP is. If the movie is good and has a big marketing push for a long time before release, it could be a huge hit, many mega block-buster hits where original concepts created exclusively for the screen so it is possible(it doesn't have to be a well known property to be a great movie.Translating the colorful suits would be a challenge but not impossible.
The suits can be modified and have the colors be darker and the weapons translated into new military technology but grounded in some highten reality. There's so much potential, its a pity that many don't see it. Maybe munroe dropping out is a good thing after all.

interesting.

I think there is something going on at imagi. First the director of astro boy drops out and they get someone else and now kevin leaves gatchaman.

Yeah looks like this movie is done for now. The entire staff has been removed from the Gatchaman section of IMAGI's website. According to Toon Zone, Paul Dini has been off the project for months.

Movie seems pretty dead right now, and so does IMAGI at the moment.

So is the Gatchaman/G-Force movie back on track? The release of a logo really means nothing, but I'm still curious to see if the movie gets made.

It's going to be a hard sell in the US, after Speed Racer crashed and burned, however...

Maybe. All of the concept art looked great.

Nope, off track is more like it.

The movie's been put on hold while IMAGI is trying to release Astro Boy which has had its own troubled production. Currently the project has no official writers or directors. Dini's no longer attached either.

Too bad. I would have liked to have seen a cool updated version of G-Force (minus the lame robot 7-Zark-7, and those stupid repetitive ping-pong game scenes that were added to the US version, that is).

Well it would've hopefully been an update of Gatchaman which is NOTHING AT ALL LIKE G-FORCE.

Well, with the possible exception of 7-Zark-7, the only thing that most Americans remember about the bastardized Battle of the Planets is the basic iconography of the G-Force team and their vehicles.

The more faithful aspects of the original Japanese version (the enemies not being aliens except for Leader X, Zoltar's androgyny, etc) wouldn't really raise any questions from US viewers anyway.

Well Munroe did leave the project claiming they were trying to make it more like Power Rangers . . . or G-Force is more like it :D .

I heart anime....so much.

anyone else up for a live-action Xam'd?
