New Gatchaman CG Film!

Wow, suddenly this comes back from the dead. I wonder what it means.

Not crazy about some of the character designs. But seeing something in actual motion would give me a better idea. I think there was a lot of room for improvement based off of TMNT.

Phoenix's shape looks to resemble the 90's OVA's a lot more.

There is now a 10 second teaser and several screenshots on the Imagi site.

Click on "Our Films" and then "Gatchaman", and it should be there. I'm running a bit slow right now.

Gatchakan.blog26.fc2.com has posted a photo of a new poster for Imagi Studios' Gatchaman, to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The poster features Joe Asakura, the second-in-command of the superhero ninja team.

"Gatchaman" originated in Japan in the early 1970s as the television series "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman." Aired in the U.S. as "Battle of the Planets" and "G-Force," it soon became a widely popular syndicated TV series.

The film is set in a future world grappling with environmental and technological issues. The story focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth's only hope of defeating extra-terrestrial invaders.

DorkyFresh, Don't forget in addition to Battle Of The Planets, and G Force...other us adaptions of...Gatchaman were, Eagle Riders (90's) an OAV (original anime video) Gatchaman 1994, and ADV released Season 1 of Gatchaman 3 years ago. I hope that...Imagi's Gatchaman does get made, and gets a 2010 release, that would be very cool indeed. Maybe some game company in the USA will pick up Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, as a tie in to Imagi's Gatchaman.

They really need to rename this to the Battle of the Planets because honestly most of the boomers that grew up with this don't even know it was originally called that. But they know the show.

Most likely people won't see it cus there won't be any Planets battling if you call it battle of the planets.

I'm really loving what IMAGI is doing with this franchise (just wish they could have used G-FORCE instead of the other one thats coming out with that title)

I think the costumes are fantastic looking and thats how they should be done if this were live action. My only complaint, and its VERY minor, would be to make the material smooth and not textured like the Spider-Man suits.

I'm pretty sure just like the company, this film is dead.

Well it seems that everyone is using "kickstarter" for everything...

If you are READING THIS MAKERS OF THIS FILM... PLEASE, YOU'RE our ONLY HOPE!

From the guy who posted the Imagi Legend of Zelda pitch to Nintendo...

I'm still upset that this project is dead, but at least there's a live action movie coming out in Japan.

LOL at using audio from the first X-Men movie as temp audio for that sequence with Condor Joe.

Sounds basically like the plot was to make Condor Joe the Wolverine character to have him recruited into the team for the movie.

I still think they should've went through with this instead of AstroBoy.

While I liked Imagi's passion and it's sad to see them gone, I hated their art style.

I mean for Gatchaman, I'm not fond of the long angular character designs and faces.

I mean while I wanted to see this get made more than Astroboy, it would've probably made even less money. More mature CG animated action/adventure style movies tend not to do as well. The only one I can think of that is similar that did well was Incredibles but that had the Pixar/Disney branding behind it which is pretty powerful. Plus it was inspired by classic American comics and superheroes. Gatchaman is based on an obscure Japanese anime series with a segmented fanbase. Think about it, very few people in America have actually seen the original version which was Gatchaman. People in America that did watch it when they were kids watched the reversions which were G-Force, Battle of the Planets, and Eagle Riders.

It seems that's what they like to do with their human males. Creatures and monsters seem to turn out a better.

Gatchaman seemed it'd be more entertaining than how AstroBoy turned out. I was disappointed they went the boring kid/family route since I liked TMNT and could see them making a name for themselves in terms of action/adventure films. Or if they wanted to mix things up, at least don't make it boring like their AstroBoy film.

Some concept art from the CGI film...

LOL all this comes out right when the Russos announce they're working on a Battle of the Planets film.

Interesting. I was a big Battle of the Planets fan and I've seen a lot of the original Gatchaman series. The differences are fascinating.

Katse wasn't a transvestite but a hermaphrodite, able to switch between male and female genders at will. I doubt they'd ever keep that in but it would sure be different! Battle of the Planets solved this by implying that 'Zoltar' was a woman. Which technically wasn't wrong, I suppose.
