I love the first movie more now than when I was a kid. Secret of the Ooze was the one I rewatched over and over. Now I think the first one is underrated and actually a really great film. It charms me endlessly and still engages me with it's storyline and action. My favorite versions of the Turtles by far and also one of my favorite comic-book movies ever.

I watched the first one sometime last year I think, possibly the year before. In any case I thought it still was a very good film, and now that I'm older I have a lot more respect for it. Great balance of the dark tone of the comics yet mixed with some of the series of that time.

I used to have those toys, the ones with the armor animals that you take apart and put on the turtles as armor. They were in one of the US toy lines

Since the 2 and 3 film made less and less than the first they planned on returning to the darker tone of the first.

The only thing the live-action series took from it was the title and the idea of a fifth turtle.
