Yeah, really nice demo, dark_b. And you know, I've never noticed it, but Jennifer is always pointing to your posts. As if to say, "dark_b nailed it! What a great post!"

I wasn't expecting something that screamed "Turtles" or at least the paint job wouldn't do it.

I actually enjoyed the first Transformers. It had things that I didn't like but overall I enjoyed it. With the other films, the stuff I didn't like sticks in my mind more. It's kind of like the original TMNT films in that way.

Agreed.

TBH, the REAL issue with the Transformers films was not Michael Bay, or even Orci/Kurtzman, but Ehren Kruger, the primary writer on TF2, and the sole writer of TF3.

He was essentially the cancer of the franchise.

Agreed.

I was expecting them to do what they've been doing since the 2003 series, and turn it into a very serious looking, battle vehicle.

Well, the film seems to be going for the 1987 toon type of vibe. So, I guess not something as inconspicuous as the Battle Shell from the 2k3 toon.

Wonder when we will see an official picture. Soon hopefully.
Also, those shells look huge.

It's probably unhealthy to keep harping on this, but screw it.

Could have gotten Ken Watanabe as Shredder and Jackie Chan as Splinter. Their ages even make sense in a certain way.

But no. Blonde, white character actor and that little person who hung out with Kramer on Seinfeld. My two favorite asian actors.

This is the Turtles Movie everyone was expecting when the 1990 one came out and Shell Shocked everyones ass's.

Now this is the movie no one wants when they want a comic adaption to the baddass Turtles from the Comic Book.

The head looks small compare to body ,can't imagine what the turtles will look like ...
Lets see if some other Set photos pop up giving us better picture of the turtles .

Yeah. Bebop and Rocksteady were in the original script for a good amount.

Whether or not they, or even Kraang, survived the rewrite is unknown.

Though, considering the amount of destruction we've been seeing in the recent set photos, there is a good chance that the Technodrome and Kraang will still be featured.

Thanks.
Hope to see them in this movie.:yay:

we need leaks from the turtle designs. we need leaks now.

1. William Fitchner isn't blonde.

2. Danny Woodburn, due to his short stature, is likely only doing the motion capture for Splinter. And on the off chance he is voicing him too, what does it matter, White guys have done the voice of Splinter before, so does it really matter. Either way, you will never actually see Woodburn. Same goes for if it was an Asian actor.

The only valid worry is (should he be voicing him too) if he'll give a solid performance, and considering that Danny Woodburn is a pretty good actor, I don't see that being a problem.

:funny: Too true.

I expect something within the fall months.

For both TF4 and TMNT.

They seem to be working on an identical schedule.

No matter what they come out with fans will complain. You know it and I know it.

Unlike other live action films, this production isn't a slave to set photo leaks. I suggest they just save it till the ad campaign rolls around. Blooger sites would love the click bait though. I can see the talkbacks already.

Must have recently seen a picture of him with lighter hair. Oh well. Still wrong for the part.

If Danny Woodburn is only doing mocap and not the voice, why bother getting Danny Woodburn who is a semi-recognizable character actor? He's probably doing the voice.

He's also wrong for the part he's been cast as. Splinter has, more often than not, been given a "wise, asian martial arts master" type voice. Because the Splinter character has been either a Japanese martial arts master turned humanoid rat or an actual pet rat of a Japanese martial arts master turned humanoid rat. Basically, picture the first two movies and the 2007 movie for actually good versions. And the third live-action movie and the 2003 cartoon for attempts on it. And even the '87 show attempted it.

Kevin Clash did it for the first 2 movies. He's a voice actor and was capable of doing it and doing it incredibly well, obviously. Some guy named James Murray tried doing an imitation of Kevin Clash's voice from the first 2 and...well, there you go.

Mako did it for the 2007 movie and he sounded great. He was an asian actor.

2003 cartoon was Darren Dunstan. No idea who he is but he's probably a voice actor and he did alright. 1987 cartoon was Peter Renaday. Voice actor. Also did it adequately enough.

And for the 2012 cartoon we've got Hoon Lee, another asian actor. Who does a fantastic job.

So that's two asian actors amongst a couple professional voice actors who did their best to portray splinter as a "wise, asian martial arts master."

Danny Woodburn is neither asian nor a professional voice actor. So unless they DO get someone else to provide Splinter's voice, this is what we're stuck with:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNKCZy_18Eo

It's not a question about whether or not he's a good actor. He's a fine actor, in comedy roles(never seen him in anything else). That's not the point. The point is whether or not he's right for the role. And he's not, that's just a matter of fact. Splinter, like Shredder, is a traditionally Japanese character and, at the VERY least, should be portrayed by an asian actor. Or, worst case scenario, a professional voice actor capable of doing the "wise japanese sensei" in a way that isn't over the top or stupid-sounding(like Kevin Clash).

And the whole "he was cast because of his short stature for the mocap" stuff is bunk anyway. They can make ANY actor of any size look big or small once all the effects are done. Regular sized people can be made giant. Very tall people can be made very small. Or anything in between. So I can only assume that they cast him specifically because of his size and that Splinter will be around that size, even though...meh, I'd prefer he be taller. Splinter in the 2012 cartoon is man-sized and that's awesome. Splinter in the live action movies was man-sized and that was awesome. And since they cast Danny Woodburn in the role, and he's doing the mocap, and he's a semi-recognizable character actor, he's also probably doing the voice work, since we haven't heard much of anything about voice actors cast separate from mocap actors, that all but confirms it. And I sincerely doubt his range in acting/voice work is the same as Kevin Clash's.

Same goes for Shredder. Michael Bay cast a friend of his in the role because he's Michael Bay. Probably not because of his stellar audition or because Bay looks at Shredder and sees no one but Fichtner. The role could have went to a myriad of good to great Japanese or Asian actors. But nope. William Fichtner. Colonel Willie Sharp from Armageddon.

I'll reiterate. It's not about whether these two guys are good actors capable of decent performances. They are. William Fichtner in dramatic side roles and Danny Woodburn in comedic side roles. It's about whether or not they're right for two roles that are very specific in their requirements for the right actors.

And they're clearly not. Except for Michael Bay and the guy who directed Wrath of the Titans. And I'm not willing to give either of those guys the benefit of the doubt like I am say...Chris Nolan.

No matter what they come out with fans will complain. You know it and I know it.

What a horsecrap excuse for pushing aside fans' legitimate concerns about a franchise they care about.

I can't speak for everyone, but the only thing I've liked that's come out of this movie this early is the Turtle Van.

That's because most of the other things I've seen/heard have been dumb to horrible. Not because I was going to hate it no matter what, but because I find them to be dumb/horrible.

You don't know what the roles call for, all you have at this point is preconceptions. Not even of what's better or worse just of what's come before. Before you suggest a solid actor like Fichtner isn't right for the role, perhaps wait till you find out what the role is before condemning him.

This would be like suggesting Tom Hardy lacks the hispanic requirements to play bane, outright.

I already know what the role is. The Japanese character Oroku Saki aka The Shredder, leader of Ninja assassins known as the Foot Clan.

Any deviation from that just shows Bay's/Liebesman's/the writer's lack of respect for the source material.

He did. And, rightly, people were pissed. Another non-white character whitewashed. Just like The Last Airbender, just like Bay's TMNT movie.

I forget, is there some sort of requirement that they show "fans" early concept art for some sort of approval? To answer the question, no.
They aren't pushing aside "legitimate concerns", they simply aren't putting out production art they have no requirement to.

I'm personally curious in what universe that van doesn't look "dumb to horrible" objectively, but then again I forget that this isn't my world, it's a world ran by fanboys. That is of course until the box office roles around, then we see who's world it really is.

Well, you're going to be in for a few unpleasant surprises down the road. Starting with shredders' name. Moreover there is more than one way to respect source material.

Yes I suppose some fans were pissed. Maybe the studio's should use that film, it's success and it's acclaim to learn their lesson once and all. Don't piss off some fans.

This has nothing to do with anything I said. They can do whatever they want, obviously. That doesn't mean people have to like it. But according to people like you, if they DON'T like it, regardless of true feelings of the matter, they're whiny fanboys.

And I'm talking about the glib way you said this "No matter what they come out with fans will complain. You know it and I know it." Nothing to do with the makers of this movie.

If you call any of this mess respecting source material, you've got a screw or two loose.

Ah yes. If the film was a success, it's totally okay. Gotcha.

Don't remember where I called any group "Whiny Fanboys"
I see however that you were referring to my disregard for giving fanboys media and not the studio's disregard for doing so.

I can list maybe 4 or 5 different reasons why they haven't and or shouldn't release "leaks". The way fanboys historically act towards such things on a new project is something else entirely. I just felt it opportune to mention how I think these a good portion of these people are going to act. Such as the way they objectively acted towards Megan Fox' casting.

And I'm talking about the glib way you said this "No matter what they come out with fans will complain. You know it and I know it." Nothing to do with the makers of this movie.
If I were to be more clear, I would say whatever they show, I expect fans to not receive endorsingly. As they do often with any early production reveals of this sort historically. However, that matters little in light of how well a film is going to be and do, so why even bother. I would say to reward fans for support but thus far I personally haven't seen all that much from fans.

If you call any of this mess respecting source material, you've got a screw or two loose.
I must have a screw loose yes, last I checked the original and celebrated 90's film took it's own liberties as well. Respecting source material doesn't mean liberties can't be taken. Then again I haven't seen the movie, I do know it centers around the four turtles and a reporter battling the foot and other such things in new york. Sounds like a solid start.
Ah yes. If the film was a success, it's totally okay. Gotcha.
Just not clear how Tom Hardy was a bad choice for what the script called for and more over how that incarnation of bane was worth complaining about. It seems to have hit home with audiences everywhere.

Don't remember where I called any group "Whiny Fanboys"

"Complaining fans," "whiny fanboys" tomato-tomahto. That was your intention with that dismissive post.

Such as the way they objectively acted towards Megan Fox' casting.

I wonder why. She's not that great.

I must have a screw loose yes, last I checked the original and celebrated 90's film took it's own liberties as well. Respecting source material doesn't mean liberties can't be taken.

Taking liberties and completely changing source material are two vastly different things. Even in all your intentional obtuseness I'd assume you'd understand that.

Just not clear how Tom Hardy was a bad choice for what the script called for and more over how that incarnation of bane was worth complaining about. It seems to have hit home with audiences everywhere.

Except for the people that were upset a latin actor wasn't cast in the role and all the people that continuously mock the hard-to-understand Bane voice and accent.
