It's probably unhealthy to keep harping on this, but screw it.

Could have gotten Ken Watanabe as Shredder and Jackie Chan as Splinter. Their ages even make sense in a certain way.

But no. Blonde, white character actor and that little person who hung out with Kramer on Seinfeld. My two favorite asian actors.

Jackie Chan is Chinese so if Splinter's comic origin is Japanese how would that be any better? He'd still be miscast.

Nothing's perfect. He'd at least be asian. The Eastern sensibility would still be in tact.

As it stands right now I can't think of any Japanese actors around that age that I'd cast as Splinter. And something about how Jackie played the Miyagi character in the Karate Kid remake just made me think Splinter.

To put it more succinctly, I wouldn't begrudge the filmmakers casting a non-japanese asian person in the role near as much as I'm begrudging them casting Danny Woodburn, who is terribly miscast.

they put human clothes on him. there are no trackers for tracking the movement. so i have to speculate that there will no cgi on the head, body and arms.

i guess it will work. i hope it will. :woot:

When you're voicing characters, it doesn't really matter what ethnicity or nationality you are. This is coming from an Asian person. It's like I should be offended that Jack Black is voicing a Panda Bear from Ancient China. Doesn't matter.

"Complaining fans," "whiny fanboys" tomato-tomahto. That was your intention with that dismissive post.
If I wanted to call them "whiny fanboys" I would, I I wanted to call them "complaining fans" I would. However I said, No matter what they come out with fans will complain. Not the same thing unless you are in a particularly over sensitive state of mind imo.
My intent is my own, not yours to do with as you see fit. If my suggestion that fans will react as they often have leads to you taking that as me calling them whiny, that's you. I'm just suggesting that fans will react as they often have.

I would go on, this production is in a precocious situation of not having proven itself, it also has the benefit of not having to expose all it's cards on set photos. I suggested that they save all their imagery till the best possible time(a trailer), for early leaked work without context is sure to not impress(see shredder photo). Release something now:
The general public:
1. Won't care about leaked genre imagery.
2. Won't make their opinions known either way(see the GA's reaction to the van).
The fanboys:
1. Will complain(see underwear free superman).
2. Won't complain(as has not been the response to pretty much every development of this film however inconclusive).

Just don't see the point. Even if fans embrace them. I would add,
JJ did the same with the trek suits the first time around. Don't expose what you don't have to.

I wonder why. She's not that great.
Neither was the original but then again, that's my opinion. Not some fact. Plenty of people think otherwise.

Taking liberties and completely changing source material are two vastly different things. Even in all your intentional obtuseness I'd assume you'd understand that.
Like I said, four turtles, a rat, an ally in April, enemy in Shredder, the foot. Ignoring the presence of all these elements is what I would call being "obtuse" or at the very least hyperbolic. I don't see any "completely changing" here. Having the turtles be a bunch of guys in hockey pads fighting a group of Decepticons would warrant such a statement. This so far is what I would describe as liberties.

Looking at April's origin in the original source material and Splinter's origin in the original and new animated series, vs what they have been in the feature films, liberties will be taken. I suppose it's up to us to pick and choose what we want to consider, "completely changing source material".

Except for the people that were upset a latin actor wasn't cast in the role and all the people that continuously mock the hard-to-understand Bane voice and accent.
I see, those people. I suppose I spoke too soon when I said everyone. I mean, to this day there are people that speak out against the recent joker wearing face paint. Can't please everyone I guess, however there is something to be said for the people that were pleased, there seems to be a good amount.
If this production finds itself in the same position of pleasing some and not pleasing others in such a way, I'd consider that a success. Funny enough it all comes back to the accurate statement I initially made:

...fans will complain.

I think Hoffman does a pretty bang up job in the role of rodent master to confused and ambitious student in a film soaked in eastern sensibilities. Who'd have thunk.

Though, I suppose there is no original source material to intersect with objectivity.

I'm going to ignore you.

You really don't care if the person really is japanese, you just want them to look it.

Almost like a cartoon.

Screw who's voicing him, as long as the character looks it.

Casting Chinese in the role of Japanese would be a very particular kind of racism, given this is bay I'm sure I'd hear about it in some form or another.

A white man can be japanese.

So if it was really just that you wanted the character to be japanese or have japanese roots, you wouldn't be complaining.

But the simple fact is that you just want him to look asian.

I don't care if the guy is Asian, African American or Ewok. I just want to hear him utter "those pesky turtles" at least twice.

I'm so optimistic about this movie. The creators seem to be holding back info and everything. Wonder when we'll get something .

You wretched reptiles.

"You would be wise to lose your flippant ways if you wish to join the honourable foot clan!"

You know, when I was kid, I was always amazed at how mobile the turtles were, in those thick suits. And Batman couldn't even turn his neck. I always wondered.

Knowing the history between the Chinese and the Japanese and wanting JC for the 'feel' of Asian is more offensive then just casting a white man.

Splinter doesn't bother me, as long as he sounds ok. Shredder on the other hand...

Even though that matte painting effect is somewhat jarring to me, that scene is still one of my all time favorites in film.

When nolan came out with a bat suit in which the head still couldn't turn, I washed my hands of him forever.

if you watch the tutrle. the design. everything is in balance. nothing is to big or to small.nothing to bright or to dark.
