FuzzyBlueDemon said:alright, i finally set about replicating carl's MS Dr. Doom custom. marvel select doom is perfect, just too tall, and non-poseable. i finally came up with(with some help in the extra) war machine for the perfect hip replacement. he had a very long waist, so i took about half an inch or so by giving him war machine's waist and upper legs. he is by no means done, need to smooth him out, and repaint him, but for now, he is done enough for my shelf. sadly, i cut too high on was machined thighs, and lost the swivel joint i really wanted to keep, so i may redo him again in the future with some proper ball jointed hips. but for now, i am happy with him. here's a few pics, let me know what you think

I got the MS Doom just a few days ago, I had been eyeing him for a while, and I would save some money at Suncoast if I bought him. I'd heard that he is a good figure in his own right so I wanted to check it out. He was pricey but worth every penny if you ask me. I own a few of the MS figures and this one is easily the best.
I don't know if its any one thing in particular that made me like this figure, but there are a lot of simple things that make me prefer him compared to say ML Doom.
For starters his hood and cape, the material is so soft it drapes and hangs almost like real cloth. It can be folded and moved around shoulders. He can grip it in hands and it's long enough that it touches the ground when he stands. One of the major benefits I saw in the cape was the way it works with his head. ML doom wears the hood like a helmet, it just sort of surrounds his head rather than draping it like a real hood. With this figure I was able to push his head back into the hood to different degrees so that it can even partially cover his face or obscure it in shadow. All the while keeping the full range of motion in the neck.

I suppose you would be able to do this with a regular doom but you would probably have to glue the hood down causing you to lose neck articulation and the removeable mask.
As much as I did like this figure he wasn't without some problems. For starters he is huge. I prefer Doom be a big fellow but not as big as he was. I didn't measure while I was making the cuts but I'm guessing I took something in the neighborhood of .5" of height out him in the upper thigh region.
So now he's not too big...

Not too small...

But just right...

This custom was kind of quick and easy as it was only modifying a base figure. So the only thing I wanted to do was shorten him and increase his poseability so swapping out the hips and thighs was the best way to go.
Doom's gone wild!
I replaced his swivel pin hips with ball jointed hips I pulled off of a TB WCW fig (think it was Mike Awesome) added thigh swivels for more stability. The ball jointed hips also give him a bit more room to move when he's sitting down. He went from 16 POA to 18 compared to ML Doom's 25, but I'm willing to sacrifice some poseability in this case.

Not much else was done to him aside from the change in hips. He was given a new paint wash to dirty up the armor a bit and his left hand was boiled and re-shaped to give it a bit of a grip. Anyway that's my new default Dr Doom. Thanks for looking.

Right now, I have my lastest custom. He's not 100% finished yet (still some work on the cape, and a few tweaks here and there). Anyway, the ruthless dictator of Latveria, Dr. Doom:

Ah, spare parts...where would I be without them...Initially, I was going to make a Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) out of this fodder, but then my mind drifted away from that idea, and my eyes landed on the ML Dr. Doom. It's stupid, because I'm actually quite fond of that figure, but I knew that I wanted another, more beefy Victor. So, here's the recipe:
Head: Boromir (first release)
Torso and Arms: Ultimate Captain America (with Boromir's tunic)
Legs: Theodred
The only sculpting on the whole custom is Doom's mask. It was done with epoxy putty over Boromir's head. The rest was fiddling with parts until everything fit into place. I repositioned Cap's neck so that Vic wouldn't be hunched forward as much, and he'd be able to hold his head high. The skirt of the tunic is from a Strider figure, and had some nifty little doohickeys attached to the belt. There's a whole in the front of it though (where Strider's scabbard was attached) and I have yet to fill it in. The hood and cloak are leather, and were attached using some krazy glue and strategic folding. The chain for the cloak is from KC Hawkman's necklace, and the clasps are epoxy putty.

I wanted Doom to look more imposing, and I thought it would be neat to have him in medieval type armor. The fascist leaders of the 20th century were obsessed with the empires of the past, and so to have Doom wearing armor befitting a king seemed somehow appropriate. While I feel having this custom is somewhat redundant, I still felt compelled to make him. He was actually a lot of fun.

EDIT
Made a few changes to Doom. First off, I agree with many of you that the arms are a little long. While I didn't alter the arms, I decided to sculpt some armor as opposed to keeping those two chunks of plastic attached to his arm (which seemed to be exacerbating the situation). I also added a hint of green to the hood.
Here he is, shooting off at the mouth:

I still have yet to fill the hols in his tunic. I'm so laaazy.
Here's a comparison shot with ML2 Doctor Doom:

glorbes said:I made this next custom for a buddy of mine. I wanted to make a more "classic" Dr. Doom, and took Toy Fare's MEGO custom as inspiration for the style. So, here is my second try at Dr. Doom:

A few things bother me about him. The cloak ended up being too short, but I spent many hours stitching the wire into the hem, and actually learned a few new tricks. The base figure is the newer version of Boromir. The head is the ML Doom. The hood and cloak are made from a dark green cotton shirt, with wire stitched into the hem of the edges (including around the hood trim). The leg and knee armour is vinyl.

Here he is with my previous Doom custom:

I may take another shot at this recipe in the future, with a longer cloak. I'm happy with him as is, though, and had a lot of fun with this custom. I was also inspired by the new 1/4 scale Doom from Sideshow (though I think their version may be slightly nicer   ).
EDIT:
A new cape! Inspired by Magnuz, and the relative lameness of my shorter cape, I went back and spruced Victor up with a more imposing version of his cloak:

I left out the wire in the bottom seam this time so as to allow the cloak to drape naturally. I feel better about him now.

why you gotta be so negative?
