BvS New Positivity Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!) - Part 1

ya. not having a good feeling about it.

like they tried to make up for the massive destruction complaint of MOS... in BvS... but ended up getting worse complaint...

i love the massive destruction. i was disappointed there was no city battle in BvS... the public had no opportunity to see how terrifying Doomsday was... and the on and on reminder of vacant and no people in the city... just hated it...

It did get annoying how often they had to say there were no people around in the BvS final battle. The problem was they kept having to cut away to have other characters tell us a certain place was abandoned and it effecred the flow of the fight.

The battle has grown on me a lot in repeat viewings, bit those parts still annoy me.

that's why i have bad feeling about this... trying to please everyone but end up none.

hope they would wrong the right things...

Hi guys, I'm checking these forums now after a few months and I'm glad to see this thread is still alive and kicking. I see a lot of new faces and names here so I thought I'd share my old articles for the benefit of those new people. After the movie came out and I watched it 4 times, I wrote a few articles explaining the movie in three ways: psychoanalytically, thematically and deconstructively. Here they are:

1. About Martha: The 'Masculine' vs. The 'Feminine' In BVS https://creators.co/@SnyderFans/3895267

2. An Inventory of Themes in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice https://creators.co/@SnyderFans/3919622

3. The De- and Re-Construction Of Batman And Superman In BvS https://creators.co/@SnyderFans/4024418

I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on them. I hope they bring something new to the table for you and help you appreciate this movie even more. Enjoy!

Yeah I know what you mean, I understand them wanting to commercialise the movie more, but I don't want them to do it too much and lose the unconventional things they do.

I was asked about other studios latest movie recently and I said I hadn't seen it and that I really liked the first 2 DC flicks I saw( haven't seen suicide squad). I said I just like more serious movies anyway. The usual friendly guy went off saying I was the first person he'd ever heard had liked the movies and they were so bad and stupid with a capital "S" . Har har. It's so tiring and why I never discuss movies with anyone but my wife now . Another friend said BVS was awesome and we chatted over text all day about it. Now he has changed his mind and it was actually really pretty awful now that he thinks about it. Wha???Any movie discussion leads to how horrible DC is.
Soooo thankful for this forum. It's a safe place. Ha.

Just remember, the average person has average taste, average intelligence, and average potential.
Stay above the average.

there is no safe place... even in this thread... if you accidentally said "the forbidden words" you will be sent to the phantom zone... they will even go back pages to hunt you down.
it's a scary thing to express "like / love" on BvS... it's worst than the SR time...
zombies are everywhere...

I don't talk about BvS with people outside the internet. Through browsing positive videos about the film on YouTube I was able to come across a group of guys (majority likes it) and they live in my town! I admit it's the YouTube videos that help especially those from people who got the themes and understood what "Martha" scene was trying to get across.

I understood from Snyder's interview that it isn't like the Watchmen situation.

I think the audience, not the studio, were his problem this time.

As I said in another post, the audience is now having a big love for the Donnerverse and Superman Returns years after hating its guts,, and want it to come back. Tough fracking **** for them, they should have loved it a lot and seen it a lot, and drowned out the haters of it on and offline.

And although he prefers the 3 hour cut, he thought it'll be too long for the GA.

Yep; the man does a decent edit for a decent running time, and now they want a longer three hour one full of 'plot' and 'characterization' that will just be dragged out and boring. What the frack did these idiots who hate it see this movie?

I disagree on Superman Returns. It's still garbage and the vast majority of fans still hate it. The Donnerverse will always be held to the highest standard and rightfully so. It was the first of its kind and though some parts in SM:TM and many parts in SM2 are outdated, classic will never be overthrown.

The next Cavill Super-solo needs to find a happy medium. Don't overemphasize the Boy-scout qualities..but use it. Don't over compensate on the grounded and serious Snyder Superman, but don't abandon it. Henry has the chops to pull off that balance. Let if flow!

Still love SR personally. It's the movie that got me truly into Superman as a character and got me reading the comics. I still watch it every now and again.

However, I love MOS and BvS as well.

Superman Returns has the terrific Airplane/Shuttle sequence and that is reason enough to love it. But I want Superman punching things.

Agreed but there is more than that moment to live in the movie IMO.

I am not the saying the rest of the movie is crap. I actually love that movie.

I just think that airplane sequence is one of the most thrilling cinematic experience ever. Especially the shot of one of the passengers looking out the window to see Superman holding the wing is goosebumps inducing.

I think the majority consensus on Superman Returns is the aircraft rescue scene. That scene by far still stands as one of the best Superman/superhero scene in the genre no doubt, which makes it sadder to me how fast the movie nose-dove after that (quicker than the plane rescue itself.) It seemed as if Singer put everything he had into that one scene and then ran out of steam as far as the creative juice's flowed. Singer was more keen on the T.V-made-for-drama love triangle than anything Super in Superman Returns. He had some nice montages, but for anything to follow the plane rescue, which was very early in the film, was bound to fall flat. Instead of getting stronger after the plane rescue, the film got weaker, and that's an understatement.

Then yeah I entirely agree.

I never liked the air plane scene and still don't get the hype for it. I never hated SR but always realized it was a movie with a lot of issues... Main one being Superman himself.

Superman was a stalker, boy - feminine, wooden, caricature of Reeve. It was weird. And creepy like Singer himself. Yet that action scene itself is actually pretty cool. Much like the opening web slinging scene in that turd, Amazing Spiderman 2.

haven't re-watched SR after the cinemas... hurt too much. hate Bryan Singer for ruining it.

After watching the ultimate edition again its very clear that the theatrical version is incomplete.
I'm not sure if I will watch the theatrical version again.
I liked the theatrical but the ultimate edition is where the story is.
The ultimate edition is my favorite movie this year. Suicide Squad a close second but it's wasn't what it should of been. Hopefully the extended cut of SS can do that for me.

I liked the airplane sequence in SR and I thought some of the score was beautiful. I also thought they did a great job of him feeling alone after finding nothing from his planet and just hovering over the earth like a god. Noble but very lonely.
I think they'd should have just skipped Lois having current love interest and child.
I would have had Spacey somehow be responsible for the new super powered enemy( take your pick) and have Supes save the day. Seemed pretty easy.

Agreed, that was some great goosebump inducing visuals. Magnificent.

Irs a shame. There was a lot to like about SR. No Lois boyfriend and kid, no Lex after another real estate type crime and a strong enemy to battle. Routh did Christopher Reeve proud I think. The final product wasn't his fault, in my opinion.

I've personally got a lot of time for SR, I totally get it has a LOT of faults across many film making departments but the feel, look & aesthetic are undeniably Superman.

Also, the making of documentary that accompanies it is one of the best ever made in terms of cataloging the film's 'journey'.
