Homecoming New Spider-Man animated series coming in 2017

Spectacular will remain the best I think. Why can't they bring it back? Marvel and Sony are working together on the film so why can't they sort something out and bring a 3rd season out? Put it on Disney XD or something. :(

I imagine they can technically bring it back now, but only through films. The fact they can do an animated film is evidence of this (plus Greg always said he wanted to continue that show in animated films).

The fact they haven't means they either don't want to or it hasn't occured to them.

Greg has mentioned in the TSSM podcast that he's occasionally asked about the show returning but that's about as far as it goes. Though he says now the relationship between Marvel and Sony is much better so the chance of it happening has potential. As you know, a deal would need to be struck much like the sharing of rights as seen with the movies. That said, with a brand new series about to start the possibility of TSSM ever coming back is highly unlikely.

Still cautiously optimistic but in a lot of ways, that clip felt like a breath of fresh air. Moreso even than Sony's entire marketing for Homecoming. There's a lot less stereotypical "Look he's a kid!" stuff in there than we saw from both the last cartoon and Marvel Studios so far, so in that sense it's more "sincere".
The recipe is pretty straight forward. One part - soap opera with some jokes here and there - and the other half is superhero action dramedy.
That's what worked with the previous adaptations thus far ca. 80s cartoon.

The fact they haven't means they either don't want to or it hasn't occured to them.
Mostly because either side clearly don't want to deal with the legal hassles for this one show.
It wouldn't & couldn't be as simple as some revival by the same company.

thanks. Is Gwen Spider-Gwen by any chance?

and is there a link to that short?

what's the name of this animated series?

cuz with the way Homecoming's going, I may very well have to turn to this animated show for my Spidey fix......lol.

Spider-Gwen and Arana have been teased via art & merchandising

the shorts, doubt will show any of the other Spiderkids this soon, air near the end of July

atm, just Marvel's Spider-Man

the coming years will provide more than enough alternate takes to get your Spidey fix

What the hell has been happening to Marvel Animation? Each time they reboot or start a new show the animation gets worse and worse... Bet next time they reboot, all the shows will be stick figures... I miss the animation from Avengers:EMH and Spectacular Spider-Man.

I imagine they can bring it back through movies. How else would Sony be able to release one next year?

I imagine it hasn't happened for one of the three reasons:

1. It hasn't occurred to them.
2. Anyone other than Avi being in charge of the animated films would defeat the purpose as to why they were greenlit.
3. Greg would probably wanna do a lot of the stories Marvel wants to do. You don't have that problem if you do Miles Morales.

Mostly because either side clearly don't want to deal with the legal hassles for this one show.

I doubt there would be any more legal hastle than there was for the Miles Morales film.

I'm genuinely surprised they haven't done it sooner as far as making a fully animated Spider-Man movie
since their animation studio is old enough & is part of the movie rights.
If they can 'Veronica Mars' TSSM, I'd welcome it,
but as far as tv, it's very dead.

Yeah tv TSSM is pretty much dead. I was hoping when the animated movie was announced it was gonna be either a continuation of or a movie set in the universe of TSSM. You even had Greg saying he and the rest of the production staff/talent from TSSM would jump at the chance to do a movie. But, no. Instead we get the first ever animated feature film for Spider-Man and it's about Miles. The alternate I never wanted and still don't care about. There's only one true Spider-Man and it's not this alternate that is seemingly being rammed down our collective throats.

Very high chance she will be.

Marvel's Spider-Man.

You and me both.

thanks for the link to the short. I like!!

now, please just give me a proper MJ and I'll be in heaven.

give me MJ AND Spider-Gwen and I'll be in double heaven!! :drl:

Greg is too busy with Young Justice to work on SSM in the foreseeable future.

Check out 1:02 in the clip. :cwink:

yep. you also see her at 2:12, 3:22, and 3:33.

could definitely be MJ. hope it is.

and see? MJ's red hair is such an iconic visual identifier for her that in any new Spidey universe, we automatically assume a pretty redhead is her.

now, of course, the redhead girl in the short could end up NOT being MJ. but it's not unreasonable to make that assumption based on the visual history of the character.

I can see that for the Spider Slayers, Jackal, and the like but the ONE thing.. the ONE THING that I can't see anyone attempting is this guy

See, Roderick Kingsley is looking in DISGUST that his story will never be told.

It's funny, Spectacular Spidey started off as animated movies, each arc being a movie; in fact a lot was cut for TV. I'd be cool to continue it that way.

I find it interesting that this series isn't run by the movie as most animated adaptions tend to be. You know, Liz, no Ned, etc.

Even if she's not, I wouldn't mind returning to someone like Angelica Jones or something. Either way, hope it's MJ too.

What are the chances MJ doesn't show up at all?

And with regard to Kingsley, I'd love to see a proper Hobgoblin story.

I actually get the sense from Ned Leeds that they wanna do Hobgoblin at one point.

The idea that this series presumably starts from the origin excites me. That means we will see fleshed out origins for the spider-villains. Since the big bads are mostly off the table for the current movie series (Ock, Goblin and Venom) maybe this show can satisfy my want to see a Hollans-esque Spider-Man take on those characters. Overall, I am looking forward to this show.

Ock goblin and venom aren't completely out the picture. Sony is just being stupid

*pigeon lands on Peter's head*

"You're running my big moment! Shoo, go away."

Imo, in all these clips so far the dialogue is very similar to USM. It's childish and obnoxious.

Why is Disney XD channel forbidden from my country? That's pretty unnecessary.

When is the next short supposed to be released?

Just dawned on me that he's pretty much Doc Brown.
