eh.

Gonna be honest, I don't care for Spidey's design or art-style.

I don't think the design is bad. At least it's not bland like Ultimate or Avengers Assemble. I'd have to see more and in action, and see what the design is like for the other characters. Interested to see what they come up with.

Really hoping this diverges in a major, major way from the other series they have on.

Personally i prefer the art-style, it has more of a personality than Ultimate.

This reminds me of Spider-Man The Animated Series, which I hated the animation of... Ultimate had FANTASTIC animation, just nothing to back it up. All bark no bite unfortunately. I've never been a fan of the skinny skinny animation, hopefully that's just the way it looks in that promo image.

I've seen some people groan at the premise of Peter being in high school again. I can understand the complaint, but honestly, I feel that this is necessary. In the last 5 years, the Spidey brand hasn't faired too well. The comics are hit and miss from what I've seen, the movies have had their reputation damaged, I'm not gonna get started on the Ultimate cartoon and since the other Marvel heroes took off thanks to the MCU, Spider-Man's lost a bit of his dominance despite being the most marketable superhero. I'm just glad that Spidey's getting some of his dominance back and I'm looking forward to Homecoming and the PS4 game.

Plus we also haven't actually seen Peter grow up and mature outside of the comics. Most previous adaptations either started out with him already in college or about to graduate high school.

The comics have been mostly all-miss since 2014 when Superior ended tbh. I wholly agree with the rest of this post though.

I dig it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the angular chin and the boot design.

EDIT: Just looked closer, also the belt design and lack of webbing on the palm.

I'd like to see a newcomer, someone that could portray a belieavable teenager, and I don't think either Keaton or Bell have it on them. I'm not saying an actual teenager, but someone that can sound like one and be cool. Having a 37 years old Keaton playing a teenager Spider-Man again would be weird, very happy for his Ant-Man gig tho.

Back to basics? No SHIELD? Mention of heartfelt drama, action, and humour? Sounds good. I want to see more art for it and hope it's tone MUCH closer to Spectacular than Ultimate. Ugh, never again want the jump cut, wacky style Spidey again. Also PLEASE have the Bugle. I miss JJJ and since it looks like he's not in the movies, I need my fix.

Also, I'm hoping for a good balance of classic and modern foes and cast members.

Alright, since Keaton's out, bring in somebody who sounds like a believable teen but isn't annoying like Drake Bell.

I don't see him as being disrespectful of that history. He is writing stories taking place now based on what happened in the past, not re-telling stories. You know I'm not picking on you Webhead, since we like a lot of the same when it comes to Spidey. You and others are free not to like what's happening in the current comics. But Pete right now is dealing with a situation that was started by Ock, who built Parker Industries. It's funny when I saw people complain how intelligent Pete was struggling to make money selling pix to the Bugle. They said he should use his intelligence and be successful. Well, he's doing just that and people still complain.

I do miss him being in New York and being with MJ. But, just like Superior, this is taking the character in a different direction. Pete is still Pete, even though he's in a more Tony position. Now he has Harry and Hobey(!) working for him. Sounds like he's getting more responsibility with the Avengers. Miles Warren is back, and I always liked his stuff, despite the mess the 90's Clone Saga was.

But I see Slott as building on continuity, not disrespecting it. I'm not saying he is going to be better than Weisman. Nothing would give me more joy than if they brought back Weisman and this became season 3 of Spectacular. I'm just saying Slott is a positive with his knowledge of Spidey history and continuity.

Have you been reading the current run of ASM and including the Clone Conspiracy? It's as bad as Spider-Man has ever been. He has all the money and inventions and fame but he's acting more like a emotional brat than before. And for someone who is sooo knowledgeable about Spidey, Slott sure does know how to write Peter as if he knows nothing about him. I could barely stomach some of the recent issues and the whole Power Play arc was just awful. What was supposed to be a follow-up to the very successful RYV series, instead we get Peter and Tony acting like complete fools and although MJ comes to save the day, beyond some simple lip service, we get no furtherance of either her as a character nor her relationship with Peter. She acts as if Pete is the worst thing to happen to her and is sooo glad she's not with him. He certainly doesn't act nor write like someone that knows the history so well when he treats established characters in that way. And imo it most certainly is a sign of disrespect.

Slott is only a consultant here and not a producer nor a writer on the show as far as we know, but I'm sure he'll be bringing all the Brand New Day advice he can :whatever: Horizon School, yeah, sounds more like BND than anything else. And as if Slott wasn't bad enough to be attached to this show, I just read somewhere that Wacker is also gonna be involved. Ugh.

I'd rather have Josh Keaton return to voice Spidey.

Sounds like Josh is gonna be busy with Antman. I'd love to have him back though as imo he's the best Spidey voice actor. Oh well. But hey, we never would have gotten Josh if they just brought back Romano or Barnes. Maybe we'll get another great Spidey VA...just as long as they don't bring back Bell.

Oh Josh is Ant-man? Scott's in good hands. A bit sad he may not come back as Pete, but I'm feeling optimistic. I'm sorry to say (I don't wanna throw shade on a fellow VA) but I really want them to move away from Drake Bell. I just am not a fan of his Spidey depiction.

I hope that the show is in it's own universe and doesn't borrow from the movies, but does it's own thing.

Nothing about Bell's portrayal was believable.

If it helps your guilt, he's a pretty crappy person apparently, too.

I imagine the continuity for this show will be separate but also influenced, even if slightly--like how Spectacular Spider-Man borrowed a few minor elements from Raimi's films. It makes sense that they'd tie Homecoming in somehow.

I hope that O'Brien makes a fast recovery, get back to acting and STAY THE HELL AWAY from Spider-Man's mythos. Just saying.

Agree to disagree, I guess? Yeah, I'm still reading. I may not be enjoying it like I did when Slott became the sole writer with Big Time, but I'm certainly enjoying it more than at other times I have read the title. I just don't see hm writing Pete as an emotional brat. Yeah, the thing between Pete and Tony got childish, but I also think they realized it and acknowledged it. And yeah, I want him back with MJ. But things were crazy when she was with him. But, I think (hope) she does really care and they both realize they're good for one another. The Horizon group I liked, so I'm not worried about them appearing here. Isn't the school in Homecoming suppose to be a special school and not just a public school? Maybe they're playing off of that. This cartoon will probably be pretty much in line with Homecoming, like the characters of Flash and Ned.

Not to turn this into the comic discussion thread, but I thought ASM had been horrid from Vol. 3 #1 on to present, up until Vol. 4 #17. The last 3 issues have been pretty good, especially considering what we've been getting.

I do think the "Horizon School" will be influenced by the specialized school Peter attends in Homecoming, but I wish they'd have called it Midtown anyway like they are in the film. Just have Peter intern at Horizon Labs as a part of a class or something if you must. Although I'm worried that Horizon being incorporated (if it's anything like the comics) will lead to zany adventures (e.g. the "Time Door", etc.) that I'm not sure high school age Spidey has much business with. But as long as they limit stuff like that to once in awhile, couldn't be too bad I don't guess.

The fact that people still have respect for him after the giant middle finger he gave us in Power Play (I'm specifically referring to the end of issue 15) actually makes me ashamed to be a Spider-man fan.

I'm a man from the 80s. I grew up with a married Spider-Man. And while One More Day was an abomination, it wasn't Slott's fault, and most of all, it was an abomination that served to reinvigorate Spider-Man going forward. What people need to understand is that Peter won't go old with us. He will be a 25 something LONG PAST we are all dead, and that's fine. Do I miss Peter with MJ? Part of me, yes. But this isn't about me, it's about what is best for Spider-Man, and regardless what the fans think it's best for him, I don't think locking story possibilities by having him married did him any favours. Things changed for the best, and Dan Slott is arguably the best Spider-Man comic book writer of all time, and probably the most knowledgeable when it comes to his continuity too. Amazing Spider-Man has been the Marvel comic that constantly sells better than the others not just because of Spider-Man's popularity, but because of Dan Slott's writing. Do I like EVERYTHING he did with the character? Do I like Spider-Man going international? No, but it's a nice change of pace, one that I look forward to see what will happen next. And I will go there, when it comes to Spider-Man, Dan Slott is the guy that you want to have on your corner, even more so than Weisman, which is a brilliant cartoon producer and did the best Spider-Man cartoon of all time. That doesn't mean that Dan can't do it even better than he did. Very high hopes for this, and I can't wait for a teaser or anything.
