New Superman Retuns: TMG interview.

The movie is pulling in around $300 million worldwide, I don't think any game will do proportionately this generation.

YEAH, BUT IT HAD A $260 MILLION BUDGET.........NO TO MENTION MARKETING COSTS. IT LIKELY WON'T TURN A PROFIT, UNTIL THE DVD RELEASES. :O

Spider-man sucks.

I've heard it's budget is well over 400 million, with all the pay or plays and rewrites and do overs over the year

Nonetheless, 300 mill worldwide for a 300 or so million movie is pretty poor....hell, on a 160 mill budget, x3 made over 400 million worldwide.

SR was not a 400 million budget. If it was that high, it'd have been heavily publicized b/c that's the most expensive movie ever. It would have been in pretty much every movie magazine. Don't even try some crap like "they were paid to keep quiet." The media NEVER keeps quiet.

You are way too obsessed with SR's BO numbers. If you could sleep with them, you would. BO numbers is your only support for **** like X3 being better than SR.

Batman 89 is probably the most successful comic book movie. It had a $35,000,000 budget and made around $400,000,000 worldwide; that's 11 times it's budget.

How long have you been following movies, man?

This film has been in development for YEARS. 300 Is about the budget for production and marketing. But figure it out.....this project has been consistantly on and off since about 96, regularly, in a highly publiscised way too. People have had to been paid off for pay or play deals, such as nic cage, tim burton and others.

If you don't believe me, google it. It's easy enough to do. I have heard 400 million from several different sources, so its not like a figure I just pulled out of my ass.

Also, the records say X3 and Spiderman and Spiderman 2 are the most sucessful super hero movies. www.boxofficemojo.com , go to top 100.

That was for Superman Lives; not Superman Returns.

They're only counting how much it's grossed, not the net gross (Gross-Budget).

Actually, Superman Returns is what Superman Lives became. It wasn't a differnt production, it just got rewritten, thats all. SR is the result of that.
Even if you refuse to believe that, it's not hard to see how bad it's underperforme.d Thats ok, no one wants to admit a movie they like bombed.

Net gross relies on a lot of variables. It's MUCH, much easier for smaller budget films to make a profit, which is why its more impressive when larget budget movies surpass their budget.

As for most sucessful comic movies of all time, here is how each film performs in the all time movies....spiderman is the first at 13, spidey 2 at 18, X Men last stand at 68 and the original batman at 76.

Note: I also quite like the Burton Batman movies, simply because it was Tim Burton's batman and was very different to the comics. I thought BUrton brought style and the best batman yet in Keaton.

At no point was Superman actually going to make a profit for Warners. Superman Lives does count as part of the bill for Returns, because its simply a new title on a film that was in development hell. See Warners wasnt banking on this one film, it was banking on the notion that SR could jump start a long dead (live action) franchise.

As for the game, I'll probably get it just to fill the 360 titles. Afterall, EA can make a good game once in a blue moon.

When talking about money taken in from Superman, everyone seems to conveniently forget about merchandising. That is, unless the movie is awful and everyone cries out "THEY ONLY MADE IT SO THEY COULD SELL SOME TOYS". On that front, combined with box office receipts, they are doing very well.

Yeah. While it wasnt really that good of a game, I did pick it up for $20. How they went from that to Goldeneye: Rogue Agent though....:o

That's speculation, 100%. There aren't really clear merchandise figures out there, and even then a large part of that is divided up between companies like dc and wb, and actors for liknesses, etc. So untill you can get clear figures, its pure speculation. A film has never got a sequel by action figure buying.

Besides, SR toys are flooding the shelves everywhere I have seen, so its not like they seem to be a roaring sucess anyway.

Exactly.

BTW you have my new favourite avatar....nice to see not everyone game up on arrested development like gammy by abandoning the chicken dance avatar :(

I abandoned my Tobias one b/c I need to update it to 100x100.

BTW Horrorfan, you need one. Would you want the clip of GOB and Buster in a stripper soldier costume dancing around the coffin?

Yeah I loved yours too....its funny how I picture you and gammy both looking like gob and tobias now :p

I would want it, but I'd have no idea how to put it up, and it would probably cause me chaos trying to get anything done since animations play havok (my computer is REALLY old and crappy :( )

That movie sucked, and Phaser owned you through and through with every argument on it.

Superman Returns was better than X-men 3, don't even try to insinuate that X-men 3 deserved to do better. Idiots propelled that movie's sales.

The film broke even worldwide, for a man obsessed with making a profit, you seem to disregard the possibility of merchandising success pretty quickly, you biased fanboy.

And in writing this post, I have made a discovery.

My suspicions have been confirmed, you're a Marvel fanboy. That's why you've been holding X-men 3 over Superman Returns, it can be the only logical conclusion.

AND THAT'S WHY YOU HATE BATMAN BEGINS!

Now with THWIP* I can understand it, because he worships Spider-man and therefore his whole view of the Superhero Movie genre is seen through that lense, and he doesn't give any credit to X-men 3. But for you, who seem to be a rational person, to support X-men 3 for it's sales alone, despite it's horrible quality... may you find mercy somewhere.

Here's coming from a non-biased man: X-men 3 sucks, Batman Begins is awesome.

Superman Returns is a great movie, better than Marvel films such as Daredevil and the entirety of the Blade Trilogy.

Now I really enjoyed Daredevil, Blade and especially The Punisher, and as quickly as I can say that Catwoman and a host of other DC movies (Batman primarily, didn't like the first four) were crap, I can say Superman Returns is a great movie, and that X-men 3 is the model of Hollywood's banality.

Lost development costs over the last decade or so on the various 'SUPERMAN' films was about 50 Million dollars.

That lost cost has already been repaid by profits from other WB films.

WB (and no other studio) have ever rolled lost development costs over into a new production.

The shooting budget for Superman Returns was about 185 million dollars.
