Comics New X-Men: Academy X

Bah! Everybody knows Santo is the real hottie of the guys.

Ha!

I never saw Jay as a "carrot top" lol I'm sure his hair was brown at first but then it changed to match his wings so it's red rather than ginger...his temperament is the attractive thing about him, although he was a little cooler before he became a new New Mutants, tatoos and all

Oooh! Debating the hotness of underaged comic book illustrations! I live for this isht!

Coming in sixth, I'd say Wallflower. She's cute but kind of bland for my taste.

In fifth, I'd go with Surge. Much as I like Asian chicks with crazy dye jobs (mmmm...psylocke...) she's got a short fuse and the gloves are kind of a turnoff.

At fourth is Sofia the Wind Dancer. It's a crime she's not higher up on the list cuz hot Venezuelan girls in general are incomparably beautiful and she was sweeter than cherry pie.

Third place goes to X-23. She probably smells like Wolverine but who cares? There's something adorable about her fish-out-of-water inability to function as a person. Plus, killing machines are usually hot.

My first runner up is Sooraya. Even in comic books where all chicks are hot, she is gorgeous! She has Sofia's overwhelmingly good natured attitude and Laura's out-of-placedness. Yeah, that's a word, I think.

Finally at number one is Cessilly. In the tradition of Mystique, Blink and Nocturne, she's the hot freak. And that's why we read the x-books, isn't it? She's got girl next door charms, impeccable looks, approachability and tends to show more skin(?) than Soo. In the end, "If ya got it, flaunt it" trumps "Leave 'em wanting more."

Now that that's out of the way...

Beautiful ish. Great twist with Julian's face getting F'ed up like that. It almost saddens me that Josh is a healer because I'd like to see him carry that around for a while. I loved DJ Mark's last words "H-HEY...YOU'RE...PRETTY." to X-23. It was good how she distanced herself from everyone. She's been surrounded by (and usually causing) death her whole life. Mourning is relatively new to her. I like that one frame where she sat in the background while Sooraya prayed. That she was there and at the funeral at all sPoke volumes. I thought so anyway. I think everyone grew up a little today and that's what makes this issue so great. Interesting, also, about Surge's glove's being able to contact Forge.

Is anyone else anticipating Forge's side-project? We know he's making something, but other than this issue, the writers have only referred to it once while showing him in his lab.

I like that the writers are making the effort to show that Sooraya's religious beliefs extend beyond her wearing a burqa. They've shown her pray a couple of times in Arabic, complete with translations. It's good to know they're taking her as seriously as most writers (except Austen) take Nightcrawler.

Okay, what is up with Icarus? He won't "let" Josh heal him? This is Emma F'ing Frost, one of the top 10 telepaths on Earth. She just froze Laura in her tracks during a fight. You mean to tell me she can't knock Jay the F out and have Josh heal him in his sleep? The guy is dying!

Nice scene with Cannonball, by the way.

Again, someone's mentioned Anole as being gay... where was this stated?!

Not that I mind, it's just driving me nuts that I don't remember it ever being mentioned, yet it's considered a definate.

I think it was in the yearbook special. I personally never got that issue -- not for lack of wanting, though -- so I could be wrong.

I just checked, it isn't there. I actually don't think he is, I really don't. I think the only scene that even comes close is the one right after Northstar died and he's talking to Dani. It may kinda hint at it, but not too much. I'm wondering if people took that and ran with it?

There's a little more of it in the 198 files. It said he struggled with his sexuality but it leaves it at that...

The old writers confirmed it in their creator alley thread over at comics fan, they regularly answered questions.

There original plans were to have him commit suicide because of it during the New Mutants run, but Marvel didn't like the idea.

The only signs of him being gay in print are the scenes with him and Karma after Norsthar died "it was important for me to have someone like him to talk to."

Both those things are why the sexuality statement was made in 198 files.

Christina and Nnzio never comfirmed it early on, merely hinting and teasing. Eventually, after that issue, Nunzio said "it's right there in print!" And later actually said "Yes Victor is Gay".

When people asked about potential love interests, Christina said Nunzio saw Indra as a possibility, but that she'd always seen Indra as straight.

It's great how much thought and effort they put into these characters, even the minor ones.

Yeah its pretty much establish that Anole is gay.

I just hope we see him make an appearance when Northstar shows up in Adjectiveless X-Men.

I thought it was tastefully done that when they translated her prayers, they were prayers that any Jew or Chrisitan would make. That they showed that Islam isn't all about killing and wars. Islam is supposed to be a peaceful religion, it's only a few people out there making a mess of it.

I agree with that, it's well done.

Also in reguards to Anole, if it didn't hit print then it's still skeptic. It's kinda like the 3rd Summer's Brother storyline. Fabian flat out told us it was Adam X but he left before it hit print and someone else came along and changed the story. If Anole hasn't come out in print, another writer could just come in and have him start dating Pixie or something.

I agree JH, all we know for certain at the moment, that is offically confirmed is that Anole is 'struggling' with his sexuality, which is naturaly for any kid his age. He may very well later on identify himself as either gay, straight, or bi. The same can be said for Bling.

That being said though i do think he will end up being gay, but that won't be explored unless he gets some serious character development.

Also i LOVE LOVE LOVE for Dust has done for peoples perceptions of Islam. I think she has got to be the only and most effective presentation of Islam in pop culture that is doing really well to dispell misconceptions about the faith. My only concern was how the previous artists kinda dew her Burqa a little too 'fitted' giving her gianourmous breasts. A burqa is not a fitted piece of clothing, but litrally a giant cloth draped over that conceals the shape of the body.

I never noticed that, but why were you looking at Dust's boobs?:p Also, even though it hasn't been officially said, I think its obvious Anole's gay. There wouldn't be much struggling for him if he was straight.

Can't remember the artist's name, but it was the issue that Blob attack the Institute. ALL of the female characters were given gianormous breasts, how could you miss them.

Paco Medina. Same guy who did issue 24.

The boobies didn't look gianormous this time around.

I'm really liking Medina's art. Is he the new regular or just a fill in?

Oh God...NO!!! The funeral issue was drawn by the guy who gives everyone huge noses?!!

But wait, the wordless preview pages of the funeral weren't his art were they?...

EDIT: Just went back some pages and looked at the art and can see the difference now...he's really improved, the noses look NORMAL! Aside from Scott's "glasses" I might actually prefer his art to Brooks...
