NFL draft 2014! The Place to Get Pick'd

I'm still in euphoria from the masterful draft Caldwell pulled off. On paper it's one of the best drafts we've ever had. And I'm really starting to believe in Bortles. Just read this

http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/74930640/jacksonville-jaguars-evaluation-of-blake-bortles

Caldwell never told any of his scouts that Bortles was his guy. He kept it to himself throughout the process and they all came back individually with the same conclusion as him, that Bortles was the best fit for our system. You rarely find a consensus like that. The fact the Patriots were going to take him in the first round says a lot to me. They've never taken a quarterback that high, and the fact that they thought this guy could take the reigns from Brady speaks volumes.

Dave has made it clear that when he drafts he also looks forward to next year at who is available, and combining that with his comments that Blake has been his guy since at least mid-season last year, that means he think Blake is the best QB coming out within at least the next two years. Says he believes Bortles will be the franchise QB for this team for the next 10-15 years and that he's a special talent. This coming from a guy who scouted Peyton Manning and was the architect of the Falcons scouting of Matt Ryan. And he isn't BSing, he honestly believes he's a special talent considering he passed on guys like Watkins and Mack, and at first when they said they would have passed on Clowney for him I didn't believe it, but I'm starting to think they really would have done it.

At the very least, Bortles really was a coveted commodity around the league, and if a team like the Patriots really thought he was worth a first round pick on when they didn't need to do it, it really feels me with confidence about what Bortles can become.

Anyone who believes the Pats would've taken Bortles in the first round also believes Belichick's injury reports each week. :lmao:

Rate your div opponents draft

Browns B- (I like the pick of Gilbert, but didnt think they needed to trade up one spot for him,Also the pick of Manziel should energize the team, still dont understand why they didnt draft a WR esp after the news of Josh Gordon (my guess Santonio Holmes should be getting a call)
Steelers A- I loved both the Ryan Shazier and the Stephon Tuitt in the first 2 rounds (good to see them finally getting younger on D), I personally thought the Dri Archer pick was a bit of a reach and could be had a round later.
Bengals B :I had Darqueze Dennard as the 2nd best cornerback in the draft (behind Fuller) ,was a real solid pickup for them, I originally thought they were gonna pick up Kony Easly I wonder what this means for Dre Kirkpatrick., I thought they did a couple of reachers for most of their other picks

Mel Kiper gave the Seahawks's draft in 2012 a C-.

Just saying.

I wasn't directing that at you per se. The only way to really see how your draft pans out is after a few years.

Bruce Arians said there was only one franchise QB in this draft... He went 3rd to the #Jaguars
Keep talking **** Matt. In 2-3 years when Blake Bortles is a top 10 QB you'll be eating crow. If both the Patriots and Bruce Arians see something in this kid, there must be something special about him. Again, I fully trust a guy who scouted Peyton Manning and was the architect of the Matt Ryan drafting. To Caldwell Bortles is the best QB available in not just this draft, but for the foreseeable future. He could have drafted Geno Smith or EJ Manuel #2 overall last year if he felt they were worth, but he didn't. I put stock in that.

Lol that's a good one!

Although I see no problem with his protection if he stays in the pocket, our line will keep him safe. But when he goes outside the pocket that's where I'm nervous lol.

Dent, weren't you just complaining about the Jaguars taking Bortles not too long ago ?

Architect of drafting Matt Ryan doesn't mean much, how many playoff games has he won? Not to mention pretty much every team scouted Peyton......he was the consensus #1 in 98'.

That's the problem. Manziel is similar to Wilson. He's more accurate outside the pocket. That's why Manziel fell to 22nd. You just gotta hope whatever defense he's playing that fateful Sunday, Monday or Thursday doesn't get a clean shot at him or he could end up like RG3.

Yep... It's my biggest fear with him. Don't want to see anyone hurt let alone I guy I'm rooting for! Haha.

I'm telling you man, we shut him down every time we faced him. You better hope he learns to slide real quick, or they're absolutely right. You're gonna end up with and RG3 on your hands. Besides, defenses have had a season or two to contend with the dual threat QBs, and for the most part, they've figured out how to put a stop to it. Manziel really did improve his pocket presence this past season though, so maybe there's hope for him yet. If he can continue to develop that portion of his game and stop relying on the footwork, he could be dangerous. Here's to hoping because as much as I can't stand the little ****, he's fun to watch. I'll give him that much. Not to mention, the kid's a winner. He just finds ways which is part of his appeal. It'll be fun to see what happens.

Yeah, I'd like to see him sit and learn more, even if for only half a season, before going out there on a regular basis. But i'm highly doubting that, he'll most likely be our week 1 starter. Only thing I can do is wait and see haha.

I hope to look back on the Niners' draft in a couple of years and see that it turned out as good as promised. In a pass-happy league, every team needs tough DBs, and Jimmy Ward fits that bill. We got that and quality at the RB position. Two future needs were addressed well.

One pick that was very essential, although not glamorous, was the Marcus Martin pick. Jonathan Goodwin was a key cog in the 49ers turnaround under Harbs. If Kilgore can't fill his shoes, perhaps Martin can with a little polish. The guy is 320lbs with massive legs and hips. That bodes well.

I'm still concerned about how the Niners cope if Kaep gets injured, and I'm even more concerned about some of the breakdowns along the D-line that I saw late last year. But I like the Niners chances to go deep into the playoffs again.

Well, loved the draft the Browns put together. Shame about the possible Gordon year long suspension.. Hoping it can get knocked to 6 since its a second offense if its all true.

Bring on the season!

I'd give the Browns credit for a good Round 1, but after that their picks are more than a little suspect. Gordon is an idiot.

:lmao: Keep telling yourself that. It's not like it matters. Hard to see your guy develop with all the blackouts and everything. It'll matter even less when your team is in London or LA. Blake Bortles, the future of the Los Angeles Jaguars! (and by future I mean just another embarrassing mark on the history of a franchise with an already long list of embarrassing marks :funny:).

I honestly hope LA doesn't get the Jaguars. Let them become the Toronto Jaguars or the Oklahoma City Jaguars. Even the London Jaguars.

I still don't understand why they didn't draft a wideout, from what I heard, they knew months in advance about Gordon's impending suspension yet chose not to address the matter during the draft

Yeah, I agree. If any team should go to LA, it is Oakland. Its not a big enough market. Furthermore, California doesn't need four teams and the Bay Area certainly doesn't need two. Conversely, Florida does not need three teams and Jacksonville definitely isn't a big enough market to warrant a pro-team (as shown by the constant blackouts). There are plenty of more deserving cities that the Jags should be in.

Granted that Oakland has been bad for a while, but at least Jacksonville has been pulling in better attendance records than Oakland.

But Florida is a bad state in general for the NFL. It's a college football state.

Ultimately, someone is gonna have to build a stadium before any team ends up in LA.

I'm from South Florida and there's a reason why I'm a Panther and Charger fan. :o
