NFL draft 2014! The Place to Get Pick'd

I do find it funny when NY NFL fans get all excited at Radio City Music Hall. Like outside the few popular college players, most of them have no clue who any of those players are because NY is not really a college sports town and only cheer when they hear the position.

That's pretty much most fanbases. Do you think the fans in say, Tennessee which is big time college football territory, know much more about the PAC12 LB their team selects?

A lot more than NY fans who probably didn't know who most of the even popular players were the day before.

LOL at the news about Josh Gordon possibly getting suspended for the entire season.

The Browns will be bottom feeders for the rest of eternity. I think that franchise might literally be cursed.

Yeah, let's laugh at a person who has a drug problem.

They aren't in the SEC who does it really matter anyway?! Bwahahahaha I kid, I kid. :D

Dent, weren't you just complaining about the Jaguars taking Bortles not too long ago ?
I changed my mind after looking into it more, for several reasons. First of all, I trust Caldwell's evaluation, especially since he looked at not only this year's quarterback crop but also next year's and determined Bortles was the best of them all and would have been the first pick next year. The fact the Patriots would have taken him in the first round when they haven't done that for a QB in over 20 years and Bruce Arians also thinks Bortles will be a franchise guy says a lot to me. Both the Vikings and Browns probably had Bortles as their #1 rated quarterback and in the top 5 on their board. Caldwell getting calls congratulating him on the pick from other GMs afterwards. Bortles was obviously a guy highly coveted around the league, more so than any QB that has come out since Luck and RGIII in '12, so that makes me feel better about it.

And looking at Bortles personally, I never thought he sucked or anything, and I saw how he had great upside if everything panned out, I just didn't think he was ready to start in the NFL because of mechanical issues and figured we should get an immediate impact player. But Dave obviously thinks Bortles will be good enough that we couldn't pass on him, and with a real QB coach ironing out his mechanics and the fact we won't throw him into the first in 2014 I feel better about the pick.

Architect of drafting Matt Ryan doesn't mean much, how many playoff games has he won? Not to mention pretty much every team scouted Peyton......he was the consensus #1 in 98'.
This playoff win thing is so silly. It's the same thing with Romo. So these guys aren't good quarterbacks because they haven't had great playoff success? Please, if Cowboys and Falcons fans don't want their quarterbacks I'd have happily given them Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne in for Romo or Ryan.

Put Matt Ryan on past Patriots or Ravens teams or the current Niners and Seahawks and he'd probably have multiple rings by now. Same with Romo. Football is the ultimate team sport, the quarterback cannot win it on their own.
:lmao: Keep telling yourself that. It's not like it matters. Hard to see your guy develop with all the blackouts and everything. It'll matter even less when your team is in London or LA. Blake Bortles, the future of the Los Angeles Jaguars! (and by future I mean just another embarrassing mark on the history of a franchise with an already long list of embarrassing marks :funny:).
Jacksonville has not had a blackout in over 5 years. It's also a little hard to move the team when they just signed a new lease with the stadium that lasts through the next 20 years.

At least do some research before trying to look smart. You're literally just trolling now, and it's pretty bad trolling since there's no truth to it. Your hatred of Jacksonville is pretty weird.

Yeah, I agree. If any team should go to LA, it is Oakland. Its not a big enough market. Furthermore, California doesn't need four teams and the Bay Area certainly doesn't need two. Conversely, Florida does not need three teams and Jacksonville definitely isn't a big enough market to warrant a pro-team (as shown by the constant blackouts). There are plenty of more deserving cities that the Jags should be in.
We've literally not had a blackout since like 2009. You're just showing you have no idea what you're talking about and are spewing crap out your ass for no reason. Are you mad because Jacksonville has a team and your city doesn't it? :funny:

Also, in terms of Matt Ryan and Romo not being great quarterbacks because they couldn't come through with the playoff win, that's just a roundabout way of saying they're not clutch. Bortles is the exact opposite of that. If anything he's probably the most clutch QB to come out since Luck. He lead UCF to multiple comebacks and elevated the program, and came within a field goal against South Carolina of having an undefeated season. Leading his team on a fourth quarter drive to win the game at Louisville, beating Bill O'Brien at Penn State, again coming within 3 of beating South Carolina, and beating a highly favored Baylor team for UCF's first bowl win. Dude is a gamer, I doubt he will have any problems coming through in big games like Matt Ryan and Romo. His play elevates the bigger the stage is.

It's okay Dent, people just like to pick on the easy places like Jacksonville and Cleveland so they can seem funny to the others that see them. They don't need any actual information. I'm glad to see you so happy and optimistic about your team, I'm feeling the same way here :)

Oh boo ****ing hoo. Yes, let's feel sorry for a guy with a ton of talent and money and every opportunity to get help.

You know damn well you wouldn't give a crap if he was on another team.

He got busted in Baylor and this is his second offense in the NFL. Why should anyone feel sorry for someone who's putting himself over the team?

Unfortunately that's a perception that a lot of fans have. QBs get a ton of the credit and more than a share of the blame. I don't think anyone can argue that Ryan and Romo aren't really good QBs. But that perception of not winning playoff games and especially in Romo's case for having brain farts, doesn't help that.

It also doesn't help when your contemporaries and your juniors are now winning Super Bowls.

Hunter Rider, Kane#'s, Matt, The Corpulent1, Anubis all of them are totally clutch oh along with you and your minion Mr.J.

That's the problem with a good portion of modern fans and even sports writers. I often hear that the QB is the "most important position" in all of sports, and I have to shake my head at the sheer lunacy of that statement. Unlike a pitcher or a goalie in hockey/soccer, a QB can't prevent a loss by his play alone. A goalie or pitcher can do that, but a QB can turn in an outstanding performance and still walk away on the losing end if his defense, special teams, or offensive line make too many mistakes. Football is a very complex game, but we've had a whole generation of people with the perception that one guy makes or breaks a three phase game.

I honestly would though, anyone who is dealing with problems with drugs and alcohol and ruining their own lives and those around them, really upsets me. It's more than just them being selfish and putting themselves above the team, it's a real problem where help needs to be sought out. Regardless of status or money it's down to the person to realize what they're doing and seek out help. Weed is really a different topic here though, since things like Alcohol and harder drugs like Heroine are the things that usually attribute to the things I said above. But he clearly has a problem with weed, which he has allowed to hurt him multiple times in college and the pros. He certainly deserves whatever punishment coming his way, but I can't sit here and call him stupid or selfish or any of those types of things.

I kinda went into what I was going to say here in the above response. No one needs to feel sorry for him, but he needs to seek help for his problem. Favoring the use of a drug over anything else in your life isn't being selfish, it's dealing with an addiction. I hope he can find a solution, not even as a fan of a player on my team, just as a person who's seen what addiction can do in my personal life, it's truly a terrible thing for everyone involved.

Weed shouldn't be a big deal, but it's a rule and a rule he's broken twice now and multiple times over his athletic career. I don't think it's a selfish thing, more of a mental problem, or in the least a lack of the mental strength to not allow the substance to take over his life.

So Pressure Points showed our grade on Bortles lol. We have him rated at a 6.9 which is on the higher end of the "Chance to become Pro Bowl caliber player" rating and just under guaranteed to become a Pro Bowler which is 7 and up. Dave really like Bortles.

Actually only caring about getting high and not about the other 52 members of his team is pretty much the definition of selfishness.

I'm not also one for coddling f' ups. He needs a kick in the ass. I know pot is an issue in the NFL but right now it's against the rules.

I'm also not one who's a fan of nothing is my fault excuse. I only did pot because I have an addiction. Feel sorry for me. That's as bad as people who cheat on their spouses because they have "sex addiction". C'mon man.

Eh I don't agree with you, and comparing a substance abuse addiction to sex addiction isn't really making your point. But I'm not going to debate anything about my side vs your side haha, just differing opinions and that's okay.

The comparison is the use of an excuse, it's not his fault...it's his addiction.
