Nintendo to show game "everyone is waiting for"

It'll probably be Kid Icarus, however I still fail to understand why some people are so sentimental about the game. I tried it a few times, but it was almost unplayably hard. It was okay, but I certainly wouldn't put it on the same pedistal as Mario, Zelda, Mega Man, Bionic Commando, or a half dozen other classic NES games that I loved. I think that people's desire to see this game return is mostly because it's one of Nintendo's only big selling 8-bit games that they never milked dry with sequels.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of every Nintendo game, each four months, being yet ANOTHER Mario, Pokémon, Mario Kart, Wario, Mario Sports, Zelda, Mario Party etc., sequel and yet ANOTHER extension of an oversaturated franchise. Why HASN'T the lesser, fan-loved franchises seen a revival?! Metroid took forever after Super Metroid to get attention again! Finally, at least a couple of gone-but-not-forgotten properties get some attention. Punch Out! and Sin & Punishment get sequels! Why stop there? Kid Icarus can only do great things if it had the scope of a Zelda game, but the style of the classic KI games. It would be a breath of fresh air.

That could be, but the original game does have a rather big following. I used to love the game, but you are correct...it's almost controller breaking hard.

No it isn't, it just isn't mind numbingly easy like modern games.

The big announcement was Punch-Out! How the **** can anyone not be excited for that?

Because it's going to be an expanded Wii Sports boxing, with crappy, unresponsive, gimmicky controls?

It doesn't look that different from the old versions, so I hope there is a way to control it with just the wiimote turned sideways.

I know this because it's obviously what they'll do with it.

How often do Nintendo developed and published titles mess up the controls?

Almost every game Nintendo has been behind has had great and responsive controls. Why would Punchout be any different?

On a side note, as much as I really look forward to Punchout, I really want Sin & Punishment 2.

It wasn't exactly what I was waiting for...but that said, I am more than satisfied with a new Punchout and Sin & Punishment 2.

My only question was how in the world did Nintendo talk Treasure into making a sequel when they are not known to make sequels?

I think it's because Nintendo has an ancient japanese secret that makes them impossible to say no to.

Indeed. I would love a new Star Fox game-- one that has NO ON FOOT portions except maybe as a central "hub" between missions. It might be cool to run around inside the hangar of the great fox and talk to other characters, as long as they're not asking me to complete any annoying tasks or shoot anything.

Starfox Assault had really good flying missions, but unfortunately the tank and on-foot portions sucked some of the fun out of the game. Next time around, Nintendo needs to remember that Starfox is fun because of the FLYING. Starfox 64 is still the best SF game ever made, and it's about time that changed.

It would be cool if you got to hold the Wiimote like a joystick to control the arwings. I'm not sure if the Wiimote is technically capable of doing that, (most likely Nintendo would opt for a "point and click" type flight setup), but it'd be cool if they could make it work.

Starfox Command for the DS was pretty fun, although the tactical portions got old fast...but it's still worth owning.

I've always loved Punch-Out. But yeah, it doesn't seem like they did much with the graphics.

Speaking of Starfox, I'm considering buying a reproduction cartridge of the un-released Starfox 2 for the SNES. Apparently it's actually a very good game and was pretty much finished when Nintendo decided not to release it. Hopefully I can get it made for a decent price...

I don't own a Wii system yet, but this news is definitely good. I loved "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!" as a kid, and I still haven't beaten the SNES sequel (though it's not for a lack of trying).

On the subject of reviving classic game franchises, does anyone think a 3D-rendered "Captain Skyhawk" would be an interesting idea? Or how about a similar appraoch to Q*Bert?
