E3: The Official Nintendo Announcements Thread

Do we really know Icarus is being made? Or are those just hopes?

Nintendo EAD Tokyo has been working on it since before the last Zelda shipped. It was confirmed yesterday that it along with others went going to be at E3. They are being held over for either Games Convention or Tokyo Games Show.

The other thing that interests me is was Iwata said early in the show.

He said that their Mario and Zelda teams are both at work on new titles, obviously ones that were not shown at E3.

I want to know what they are working on, since these teams really only make core games. Obviously a new Zelda is in the works, but what is their Mario team working on?

I doubt a new Mario is being prepped....maybe Pikmin 3....since I think that was the team that did the first two.

whats the deal with that game?? ive never played it and missed that part of the conf???

also whats the deal with the speaker???

The speaker is basically voice chat only not in headset form.

Animal Crossing is like Nintendo's version of the Sims, very addicting. You basically live life, build a house, take care of the town, no time limits, and everything moves in real time. When it's summer in the real world/it's summer in the game..etc etc.

Plus if you don't play for a month and come back to it, the townsfolk wonder why they haven't seen you and weeds will have taken over your yard and stuff like that.

It's really addictive fun.

i just might pick this up.. thanks Brainy

Wow this was with out a doubt Nintendos weakest E3 Press conference in some time.

No Mario, No Zelda, no update on any franchise except for Animal Crossing. It makes you wonder when the next killer game for Wii is going to come from Nintendo, if one actually does.

To quote the impressive Mad World trailer, "at the Games Convention in the Deutsche Land."

E3 2008: Miyamoto Says New Zelda for Wii Progressing
Zelda Wii team exploring big and unique ideas.

by Matt Casamassina

July 15, 2008 - No big surprise. At E3 2008, Nintendo confirmed (very vaguely) that the Mario and Zelda teams had reassembled, but offered no further details. But when we sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto this week, he elaborated on situation, absolutely confirmed that a new Wii Zelda is underway, and suggested that it will see some fundamental changes.

"The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away," Miyamoto said. "And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version."

At GDC 2007, Eiji Aonuma gave a presentation on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At that time, he showed a brief snippet of an experimentation the Zelda team conducted -- it was Twilight Princess running in the first-person view. We asked Miyamoto if such a fundamental change could await players of Wii's next Zelda adventure.

"I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas."

So get your pre-order to beat the rush for 2010! Imagine how MotionPlus will change sword fighting for Zelda.

E3 2008: New Galaxy, Pikmin and DS Mario Coming?
Miyamoto drops some not-so-vague hints.

by Matt Casamassina

July 15, 2008 - At the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008, we made it our mission to bombard Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto with nearly unanswerable questions about possible games in development -- because, frankly, that's how we roll. Although he politely explained that he could not announce new products to us, we would not relent and we did come away with a few not-so-vague hints about projects underway. Namely, a new Pikmin title for Wii, a sequel to Mario Galaxy and a DS sequel to New Super Mario Bros.

"There isn't anything that we can announce right now, but I'm sure we'll probably do something with it," Miyamoto said of a Wii Pikmin sequel. "The Pikmin team is, of course, still there and maybe we'll have something to talk about before too long." We like the sound of that.

In regard to a new New Super Mario Bros. for DS, Miyamoto tried to throw us off guard with trickery about not being able to announce unfinished projects. "That team is also working hard," he said. "The thing that's difficult is that, as you know, the way we handle our announcement is we work on product and once the product is at a state where we feel it's ready to show to people, then that's when we're willing to talk about it. Which is why it's difficult for me to talk about different projects in interviews. I have a lot of different teams and those teams are all at different points in their experiments or development, so it's typically once they've finalized something that we're able to talk about it. But for me to go into too much detail would be a little bit irresponsible in an interview. All that I can say is that that team is also working."

When we pressed him for more, Miyamoto added, "Maybe the best thing for you to understand is that all of the leaders of those teams -- of the Mario team, of the Zelda team and of the Pikmin team -- all sit within 150 feet of my desk. The Galaxy team is the only one that's farther away -- they're in Tokyo. But I do have video conferencing with them."

We stunned him with a hard-hitting follow-up: 'We don't really have a question. We just want you to make another Galaxy game.' To this, Miyamoto replied, "Leave it to me."

So there you go. Wii Sports Resort, Pikmin 3, Kid Icarus look like releases for next year. Mario and Zelda for 2010 most likely.

Wii Sports Resort? Sounds like a sequel to me. I hope they will give us better sports games (although it's hard to find one that hasn't been done elsewhere already).

As far as the show goes, there are things I'm looking forward too: Animal Crossing is a must and Wii Sports: Resort I am looking forward too.

But put aside the horrible show for a moment, and they do have things for the core gamer coming out...they just didn't name them at the show.

Wario Land: Shake It
Kid Icarus
New Zelda
Mario Galaxy sequel (I'm sure this is what the Mario team is working on)
New Super Mario Bros Sequel all but confirmed

Then non Nintendo Properties:

Fatal Frame IV
Deadly Creatures
De Blob
The Conduit
Monster Hunter 3
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers
Samba De Amigo
Dead Rising
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Guitar Hero IV: World Tour
Call of Duty: World at War
Mad World

With all the griping Wii haters do, the Wii is not bad off on core games.

Yup, announced yesterday per Famitsu:

http://gonintendo.com/?p=49582

Appearently it will use the same engine that RE4 Wii will use and have a similar control scheme.

The controls for RE4 were near perfect, and will give us several more hours of zombie killing fun.

Intriguing, back when I originally owned a 360, I played the hell out of Dead Rising. Now I can do it again but with new features and play style. :D

Oh, I forgot...Tenchu 4 is also wii exlusive bound.

I don't like the series, but I'm sure there are many fans of the games that will eat it up.

Wii Sports Resort? Sounds like a sequel to me. I hope they will give us better sports games (although it's hard to find one that hasn't been done elsewhere already).

Check the demo they did. There is Disc Dog (frisbee with a dog), Water-ski (Wave Race-like) and a plastic sword fighting game. MotionPlus will finally make things like sword fighting possible on the Wii.

Nintendo could have had a blow out E3, they had plenty of big surprises to choose from. Dead Rising being a perfect example.

You're right, there are definite ways they could have been the winner of E3 easily.

They could have stolen the show like they did TGS last year when they unvealed Monster Hunter 3 as a Wii exclusive.

But Nintendo usually thinks Japan first and U.S. second, so chances any real major announcements will probably be handled at the TGS again this year.

I think Nintendo is disregarding E3, and probably holding on to those announcements until TGS. Just another proof that shows E3 is no longer relevant among fans or even developers.

I agree, E3 is pretty much dead in the water after this year I think. All three companies lackluster performance proved that.

But there may be light for Nintendo fans during E3.

http://n4g.com/events_e32008/News-170994.aspx

There is a rumor saying that Nintendo will hold a secret closed doors meeting revealing a new game. This is not out of the ordinary, considering this is how they revealed Super Smash Bros. Brawl last year, a day after the actual conference.

I hope it's true.

As a gamer, it was a little dissapointing to find that games intended for my audience were almost completely absent in the Nintendo conference. The obvious focus was on casual gamers, which was very much the same approach that Microsoft took. I think Nintendo pulled it off much better - they're the ones who really started the casual gaming trend with the launch of the Wii and they're looking to build upon that success, as evidenced by the expansion to Wii Sports and the resurfacing of Wii Music. I would've loved to see some new announcements that are more for my crowd, such as Star Fox or Kid Icarus or such, but I think Nintendo might have something up their sleeves throughout the week.

I enjoyed it much more than Microsoft's conference simply because I knew that it was going to be more casually geared, and on that front, it didn't disappoint in the slightest. The WiiMotion Plus accessory seems like it could become something great if incorporated into the right games (imagine Star Wars - 1:1 lightsaber duels). The announcement of Animal Crossing wasn't much of a surprise, but it was great to hear, as I've always been a big fan. I'm very excited it comes before the end of the year, and I love all the new features with the voice chat, city visiting, as well the continuation of the online play from Wild World. Also, Grand Theft Auto DS came as a surprise, and I am curious to see how that will turn out.

I think everyone was geared up for some hardcore gamer announcements, but it was really obviously aimed at casual gamers, and that's the approach I saw coming all the way. My only real complaints were that the lady they had was an awful speaker and was just annoying to me. Reggie was great as usual, however. I wish there could've been a surprise Kid Icarus announcement, which, to me, might have trumped FFXIII 360, but alas, there was nothing. I knew what to expect, and what I received was just that, and it wasn't bad at all.

Besides, the casual games are so fun to play, at least for me. I look forward to pounding out the drums on Wii Music!
