No evil shall escape my sight...The Official John Stewart Thread

Is John Stewart required for the GL Corps in this new DCCU?

  • Yes and I think he should be the main Green Lantern.

  • Yes, but I want him to be a complementary Green Lantern for the Corps.

  • No. we only need one Green Lantern.

Tyrese can probably pull off a decent John Stewart look, but like it was pointed out, the guy is ridiculous. I don't care much for John Stewart anyway, but I wouldn't wish Tyrese to play him on my worst day.

Although I like the goatee look on JS, he's rarely been depicted with facial hair in the comics.

Yea but like the Aquaman with a beard it's one of those looks that is most preferred by the fans…. It also seems better to have more leaguers with facial hair

Ditto

My bad, my pick for John is Michael B. Jordan, after seeing him in "Creed" I think he would be an amazing Stewart,

He's one of my favorite, but might be a little too young. Plus I am really not a fan of actors playing multiple superhero roles. A million actors and have to get the same guy to play more than one? Don't reward them for picking a garbage script the first time. Not getting on you, but don't like it for any actor.

Well. Technically, Jordan would be 32-ish by the time Corps is even on the floor and I don't consider that too young. He could have joined the army and been there for 10 or so years which is about apt even considering his fictional history.

And I can see where 'the last son' is coming from but that is the last thing Hollywood has on it's mind when casting. Let's be honest, that Torch has been put off for good. :woot:

Gyllenhaal and Jordan as the leads of GL Corps- that's what's up! :ilv:

Gyllenhaal is going to be 40 by the time the movie is out. I don't want to see a 40 year old Hal Jordan. Him and Stewart should be in their late 20s or early to mid 30s imo.

Gyllenhaal will probably look fine in 5 years or so. I mean.

and it would make sense to have Jordan as the senior Lantern.

That's the dynamic I want too.

Plus, a Green Lantern will pop up in Justice League and I want that to be GyllenHal:cwink:

And your pic made me realize:

Nah, since Barry will be a young guy, I don't think Hal should be an older Lantern. But we'll see, it's totally possible to have Hal as an older mentor to a younger Stewart. I just hope they don't go that way.

I tend to think that actors in their 30s look basically the same for the duration and a, say, 37 year old could easily pass for a 30 year old- there's absolutely nothing to tell them apart. So, what is a 12 year gap could easily look, appearance wise to be a 5-6 year gap which is acceptable at any rate.

In that sense, Miller and Gyllenhaal may work. I agree in part with you that it's not absolutely ideal, but it's not Damon and Ezra. :p

see I always thought that casting an actor of Ezra's age meant he would the audience identifier when the JLA movie came out.

that would meant having him learn from the older, seasoned Jordan / Stewart.

That's not the impression that I've gotten. John's clean-cut look is more logical for an ex-military character. To be honest, I like well-groomed beards, so that surely influences how I see that look. However, most GL readers think the closely-cropped hair and shaven face are best suited to his lifestyle.

Inwouldnt say most fans prefer the shaved head goatee look. John is typically portrayed without facial hair and a short haircut. I love both looks personally, but I'd like him to being with no facial hair and progress to the bald look just like on JL TAS

That makes sense, he had clean shaven/short haired look in the first two seasons, then he was sporting the goatee/bald head in Unlimited. If I recall correctly, he was the only character whose look changed when JL became JLU. Progression would be nice to see indeed, even though I'm not always a fan when they change the characters' looks in sequels, especially if not a lot of time has passed.

I could see to it then I think that would mean a different approach for Stewart given he's the serious military type. I'm not sure who I'd cast mind.

It's really too bad Marvel snagged Mike Colter for Luke Cage already

I'm pretty sure Idris Elba would like to play someone with a bigger role than the living prop on Thor
