No Film has ever had Great three sequels in a row

^sure, but STILL, people are discussing 3 AND 4!!!

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Sure, there are two dozen Bond movies out there, but they're wildly inconsistent in terms of quality and more to the point, there are 5 different actors playing Bond.

While over the years the quality has been hit or miss the first four Bond films are consistant in quality and among the best of the franchise. There's Dr. No followed by From Russia with love, Goldfinger, and Thunderball. All were very faithful to the sorce material and each more sucsessful than the last. You Only Live Twice was the first film where they really deviated from the source material and it does suffer from that. The following film On Her Majesty's Secret Service is perhaps the best in terms of story and Lazenby, while not great was decent in his one and only film. So I would say the OP statement that no film has had three "great" sequels in a row is not something I would consider fact.

So far it seems Spider-man will have 2 great sequels under it's belt come May 4th. I think the key to sucsess for a fourth film is that they have to keep the core people who were resposonsible for the previous films but most importantly they have to come up with a great story. That I think will be the challenge for part 4.

Omg! ! ! ! ! ! !

Everyone Totally Did Not Catch What I Said In My Op!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three Sequels Means Part 4....

My Whole Point Of The Thread Was To Say That If History Repeats Itself, Spidey 3 Will Be Awesome (like Back To Future 1-3, Star Wars Ot., Etc)....but If They Do A Part 4, No Part 4 Movie Has Ever Been Good.

Agreed on LOTRs... Matrix? Uh... Opinion is an Opinion I suppose. Thought the last one was pretty out there.

Nobody's gonna say Matrix 2 and 3 were top notch.

Am I the only one who felt Fellowship was the best ot the LOTR trilogy? It had the best character development/investment and didn't rely too heavily on cg (like the big battles in TT and ROTK). Plus the ending of ROTK was pushing it. Dont get me wrong, I really like all 3 the best, just that Fellowship is my favorite.

As for Spidey, I think 3 will be really freakin' good (possibly the best), but I have a feeling it won't get the same critical reception 1 and 2 got.

The first 4 Connery films are my favorite Bonds (well, not counting Casino Royale), and the only ones with true continuity. In fact, that may be the one series to get the '3 great films' task complete, as Goldfinger seems to be the general masses favorite (my two favorites are From Russia With Love and Thunderball).

I think we all assumed you meant trilogy, since they all seem to fall flat at film number 3.

I got what you said, if you read my post I said there has been a film with three great sequels in a row and that's the first four Bond films. So what you're saying is not eniterly true. The key to making a great fourth Spider-man movie is that they got to keep the main players who made the first three great and they got to come up with a great story. The story part is what I think will be the biggest challenge. It's not impossible to make a SM 4 that kicks ass but it's going to easy.

It was my favorite too. Managed to be more exciting with less action.

OMG!! Are you guys serious? There have been NO good sequels ever!! Sequels only exsist because of lazy script writers and greedy producers! The very concept of them is flawed, they are a easy way to make money...therefore the production team don't need to put in the work that they did for the original because the original already made money! They are by definition and in practice, pale variations of the original theme and completely lame!

Back to the future, HELLO!

Im sooo glad someone said this. BTTF was the one of the best trilogys along with Star Wars and LOTR. Matrix went downhill after the first one. Star Wars became good from 3-6. 1 and 2 were ok (2 was really horrible kinda). Im sure spidey will be placed in the ranks of one of the greatest trilogys.

BTW, Back to the future had one of the most amazing, well thought out and clever stories of its and our time. I though it was fantastic and effects were amazing especially considering the time era whne it was made

I agree, the story part is going to be amazingly hard also considering that the general population wanted and wants to see venom and carnage. To those not hip on comic boook, their not going to be so chill with Kraven or Mysterio or Electro even though they can be great villians

Always good to see a fellow back to the future fan on the forums.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need, "Roads" :woot::woot::woot:

Wanting the Spider-Man movies to stop because of lesser movie history is ridiculously idiotic. Why the hell would you want that? You don't know if SM4 would be crap and you certainly don't have any say so in the matter. If Raimi and company stay for another, you honestly think the movie would suck because it is so "rare" to have great movies beyong a trilogy. I also love the movies you gave examples for...Alien and Rocky...:whatever: Ohhh great movies. And part 4 of the Star Wars series would be episode 4 and coincedentally the first movie they ever made. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc...are a great series of movies and I am sure the Hobbit will add to the LOTR franchise perfectly. The new Bond series is off to a great start, the new Batman series is off to a great start, etc... etc... etc...

And it is also extremely laughable that you named Goblin 1 & 2, Doc Ock, and Venom as the core villians and anything after that would be overkill...LMFAO.:woot:

Well, to be fair, to expect 21 perfectly made Bond movies is asking too much, granted imo there have been 2 Bond movies out of the 21 that were bad, octopussy and DAD. Additionally, having diferent actors helps the franchise grow, last and keeps things fresh and for the record, there have been 6 actors to play Bond not 5.

Let me point out a MUCH more valid and more IMPORTENED point, then just -No Film has ever had Great three sequels in a row-!....

Have you not seen Aliens 1,2 and 3?
Have you not seen the LOTR movies?
Have you seen Dr No, From Russia Wilth Love, GoldFinger, Hell even Thunderball?....That's 4 classic movies in a row

CONFIDENT??? You better ****ing believe it! Spidey 3 will OWN every other movie's ASS this summer!

I hope so too but I'm not holding my breath, sm1 and 2 were mediocre at best imo and believe it or not sm3 has some good competition.

You, my friend know how to talk with sense.

Think about it. I really hope Spider-Man 3 is the final Spider-Man film for a very very long time...

It is so rare to have a good sequel, let alone a better part 3! Raimi is one of the few directors that could pull it off, imo.

Star Wars was a great trilogy, but once they hit part 4, people hated it.

Bottom line is movie character arcs get stale and the writers can develop the character any further after a third movie.

As far as I know, unless someone can prove me wrong, there has never been a great three sequels in a row that have all surpassed their original...

Spider-Man films have had Goblin, Goblin 2, Doc Ock, Venom, and Sandman. I realize there are many more villains out there, but these are the core villains and I think that any more would just be over kill.
You are already talking about a great sequal while you still have to see the Spidey 3????

Spiderman 2 was poor compared to the original. It's only fair to expect that the next one will not surpass that.

lol theres so many great sequals out there, i dnt know were u thought this up from
