Not really. It was because the material wasn't up to par with the first two. You could tell in everyone. Same with Raimi's directing. The story wasn't as strong so the same passion from the first two films weren't there. I mean Franco and Grace looked like the only people who were trying, so point to them for that.

He isn't contradicting himself Tobey didn't take SM3 for granted, he just didn't put as much of an effort into it because the script wasn't that great. Tobey would have been taking SM3 for granted if he put in a half assed effort and the script was amazing and the movie ended up being amazing despite his lacking performance.

You could tell Tobey wasn't excited for SM3 during the press tours. He just seemed like he had zero enthusiasm for it. That isn't taking the movie for granted, that is not giving a **** because you know it was mediocre before you spewed one line on screen because you read the script and saw how Sony/Arad were interjecting and changing things up.

If Tobey took Spider-Man for granted, he wouldn't have come back for SM4.

Raimi was the one that made him suck, put in dance scenes, and had all the other major issues. Plus he's the director. If Tobey did a poor job in a scene, it was Sam's job as director to say "nope, do it again."

Added Venom, removed Vulture. That a lot more than you think. They had to redo nearly the entire script to remove Adrian Toomes and add in Eddie Brock and the symbiote.

Thank you. I simply meant Tobey and pretty much the major cast didn't take too well to the story. Raimi's direction really showed too. Grace is a major fan of Spider-man and you could tell he was loving every minute of it. And Franco, as misjointed as his character was with the amnesia thing (I blame the inclusion of the symbiote for that) he still looked like he was enjoying it.

Remember on the Daily Show when Stewart asked Tobey how good the movie is?

Tobey responded, "It's.... good."

I didn't think much of it at the time. I thouht it was just for laughs. Now I know he was serious.

Well, if we were to redo the series, I wouldn't have had Goblin as the Villain in Spider-man one. I would have saved that for the third movie, with Gwen's death as the climax.

And Doctor Jones, I'm not saying we should have kept MJ as the rambunctious party girl. She would have to change and evolve in the movies, but the thing is, we never got her as Mary Jane. Mary Jane was that rambunctious, confident, bombshell type-girl who didn't take anyone's **** and did her own thing. Maybe have part of the movie be about Pete trying to crack those defenses a bit. And then we learn that she has the abusive father, and we see a lot of the confidence and such is a defense mechanism because she's afraid to let people in.

Then we could have seen more of the open, caring MJ. One who's not quite as afraid to put herself out there, especially as she fell in love with Pete.

Which film? Spider-Man 1 or 2?

In a way, in the first film, Peter did that. Like she said, he made her be what she wants to be and for no one to tell her otherwise. Just him talking to her like a normal person and being honest really opened MJ up to Peter. She could tell him things that she couldn't tell Harry or anyone else. Peter was the one who encouraged MJ which lead her into doing stage.

Yes I remember The Daily Show interview...in fact I posted it in the SM3 thread. That is the first time that I began to worry about the movie.

If I love to paint and I love to choose my subject material and that is when I am most creative and get the most enjoyment out of it, I am just not going to have the same passion for it if someone pays me to do a painting portrait of their ugly looking family. I would do it because they are paying me a bundle.

I agree...I would do the same thing if I were Tobey. But, that doesn't mean he took it for granted. I am sure Tobey never looks back and thinks wow, maybe if I acted better...the movie wouldn't have sucked.

The only people that took things for granted were Arad, Zirskin, and Sony. Because they took their goldenboy, Raimi, that made them a billion dollar franchise and ****ed him out and then they tried it again and he quit.

Who is saying he's a hack? Raimi made 2 good/great spider-man movies. Did they live up to their full potential. Obviously not, but what movies do? And he has a sizeable catalogue of work before Spider-Man.

That doesn't make sense. Bay was TOLD to use Optimus and Megatron. Singer was TOLD to use Prof. X, Wolverine, and Magneto. Raimi was told to use Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. Raimi didn't write the script for Spider-Man 2. So he was told how to do his job in that respect as well. But you know what? The movie was great. You can't really make such a comparision. Optimus and Megatron are obvious to include in a Transformers movie. Prof. X, Wolverine and Magneto are obvious for X-Men. When you decide to direct a Transformers flick or an X-Men movie, including those characters is almost a 100% given. You can't really say the same about Venom in a Spider-Man film.
