Anyone else worried about what sort of script Zak Penn will have in store for us?
I mean this guy was responsible for Last Action Hero!
I haven't seen Elektra, but I never heard anything good about it.
I liked X2, but X3 left me wanting lots more.
And even though Fantastic Four was true to most of its characters, the story itself was pretty bland.
We know that after the long winded Ang Lee vision, they've said they want a more popcorn, Hulk Smash oriented movie, but does this mean they will sacrifice all characterization, and the dept of the Hulk?

Look at the casting... does Edward Norton sound like the kind of actor who would sign up for a 'run-of-the-mill" smash and bash? Don't think so.

Something tells me this script has gotta be good. :)

You got to be right about that, apart from the Illusionist that underwheelmed me, I can't really think of anything Norton was a part of that wasn't good.

Maybe good actors are finally realizing the potential of these movies, just look at what Favreau is doing, and the way he is approaching things, he's got plenty of great actors willing to make the leap.

I hadn't thought of it, but I can't imagine Norton would read a weak script, a super hero script, something he'd know would be a potentially big commitment, and jump aboard.

Then again, maybe he owns someone a favor!

Admittedly, Last Action Hero! & Elektra arent very good, but theres always room for improvement and apparently Penn delivered a script that was excellent enough to peak the interest of one Edward Norton, and ultimately have him sign on the dotted line to play Bruce Banner. As I sincerely doubt Norton would subject himself to this film if the script itself was just utterly and completely horrid.

I too have worries about the script, LAH, Elektra, FF and X3 were all poor IMO, and his involvment with the excellent X2 was minimal.

Norton signing on does give me more confidence though.

My thoughts exactly.

Penn has thus far shown himself to be of little talent. Perhaps others have polished his original script, or somehow he's actually managed to muster something adequate on his own.

Either way, I wouldn't think Norton would sign without being happy with the script.

well zak penn is the type of guy who gets ****ed in the ass by the studio

we know x3 was changed from a movie to a piece of ****

perhaps with full on super support he will get from marvel will help

Well to be fair to him, most of the poor movies he's scripted were at Fox, who are known to meddle with their movies.

Still though, his movies have had poor dialogue and plotting. But maybe, without studio interference, he can deliver a good script.

yeah, regardless of the script Norton will bring more believability and range to the role. That will give the script life. I hope he makes the ending more substantial though, that's the problem I had with X3 was the end of the film.

I would think Norton read the script before accepting the role and as such, I would place some confidence in him until I am proven otherwise.

Imo Illusionist was a quality film...it was something different and interesting.

Well, as much as I'd like to believe that Norton read the script and believed it to be top quality, his reasons for signing on could very well be because he's having a problem getting funding for Motherless Brooklyn and that they're probably waving a big paycheck in front of his face which would help.

Either, I'm gonna stay positive....Norton is a great choice.....

I was one of the people that loved Ang Lee's "Hulk", and sure... the goal of trying to remove themselves from the movie by making the new movie "fun", or whatever does worry me (this of course would obviously be related to the script).
And about whether or not Ed Norton would attach himself to a run of the mill action-movie... it's not unheard of that actors of integrity do something like that in order to get the money to fund a pet project.

Yeah, Penn's involvement has got me worried. We put our faith in him in anticipation for X3 and he disappointed. We'll have to wait and see, but I for one won't be getting too excited too soon.

Given his track record I'd say being worried about the script is an understatement...

The script is probably full of action scenes, and very little amount of character ones.

X2 was great and X3 terrible.
Here’s hoping this script is a keeper.
… and I think the fact that Norton has signed up means it must at least be half decent.

I mainly just want to see more carnage this time round, that and the broken and desperate figure of Banner on the run, on Greyhounds travelling from state to state.

I wouldn't worry. Just look Zak Penn's long history of great scripts.

What's with all the X3 hate? I mean, sure it wasn't the best movie around but it was a fun ride, minus the major players getting killed though which was painful. But other than that, a fun ride.

Anyways, maybe since Penn is not dealing with Fox, and instead Universal, they will give him the freedom to write a good script.

I will say this for X3, it was gut-wrenching. It succeeding in packing an emotional wallop, even if some of the character choices were questionable or downright ****ty. If the production wasn't so rushed and Ratner didn't insist on a 14 second running time, it could've had an even bigger impact. And it avoided Raimi-esque goofiness and kept the mood serious.

Those qualities could work very well in this movie, but Penn's work overall is pretty subpar.

I wouldn't be too worried about the script. Elektra, Fantastic Four, and X-Men: The Last Stand were made by 20th Century Fox which tends to rape potentially good movies into piss poor ones. Now that Marvel is making them, I'm willing to see what he can do without corporate studio interference. If the Incredible Hulk blows, then I'll worry for the Avengers.

After reading the new interview, I have a bit more confidence.
I'm still confused as to whether we will get his origin again, I feel it be important to have it done more like in the comics, instead of sticking with his dad injected him with stuff, and it was unleashed due to the gamma rays.
At least he is apprehensive of what the fans have *****ed about, and even though we will get more action, which is great, he won't ditch out on the psychological aspect, I like them going with the wandering Hulk theme.

Oh, and I guess I was just dissapointed with the Illusionist because when I went to go see it, I thought I was going to see the Prestige, Norton was good anyways.

The fact that Norton was signed on for this project bodes well for the quality of this script.
