No Worries About the Script?

Oh, and I guess I was just dissapointed with the Illusionist because when I went to go see it, I thought I was going to see the Prestige, Norton was good anyways.

Not to take away from the main topic at hand, but I agree with you about The Illusionist. After seeing The Prestige, I thought The Illusionist was going to be similar but it was good in its own way.

Do you have the source? I remember him saying dark cerebro was his idea but I can't find it :(

I dont sorry, i just remember that Penn's script didnt have the Nightcrawler Whitehouse attack (because Penn thought it would be too corny apparantly), and that Stryker created human-sized Sentinals instead of Dark Cerebro. Plus there were no Pheonix references until the very end.

Top 10 CB movies:
1)Batman Begins(2)X2(3)Spiderman 2(4)Hulk

Hmmm, the truth of the matter is-

1)Batman Begins
2)Batman
3)Superman
4)Batman Returns
5)Spider-man
6)Sin City
7)Blade 2
8)X2
9)HULK
10)Superman III

It's my list, dig it.

Well, one of his movies made it :woot:

Seriously though, Penn has an awful record as far as writting good scripts goes, is it because Fox has systematically gotten involved and somehow taken a work of art and turned it on its head, or is Penn the problem?

I don't know why Marvel has made it a habit to hire this guy, sort of how I don't understand why they keep letting MSJ kill franchises, but whatever it is, the guy has somehow not managed to really shine threw on any occasion, except X2, which was probably saved by someone other then him.

Plus I think Marvel studios is throwing around a lot more money then other people that have had the rights to their stuff, so maybe Norton simply couldn't resist, like others have pointed out, he might need extra cash for his pet project.

Boy, am I ever uneasy about all this... Well soon see if he was the problem with FF, as the new one comes out this summer, but for him to already be slated to write the Avengers seems premature, are they afraid of new talent or what?

I'll 'dig' my own thanks. As mine is better :cwink:

Penn's involvment in X2 was minimal, so i'm not surprised that turned out well. BUT Elektra, X3 and FF are three of THE WORST Marvel movies IMO, and he was heavily involved in the first two, which were extremely poor, with FF not being much better.

BTW, i totally agree with all you said.

you know, what even the lamest lines can shine when uttered by a truly talented actor.

just make sure the plot is good, because lousy storytelling cant be saved by anyone-- actor or director.

I can see Norton changing lines as he goes along, stating how stupendous they are, and his character shinning through, as it should, but if the supporting cast are all laughable the script won't be saved no matter how solid Norton's performance is.

Oh i dont know, even Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellan struggled sometimes in X3.

I don't know about you guys, but this is definitely a last chance for Penn to redeem himself in the eyes of us fans.
We are now giving him the benefit of the doubt, that possibly it was Fox who had messed with his material to much before, but now he is at Marvel studios, and we are expecting something great.
If this ends up sucking, if this is some brainless heap of crap, if not someone else, I will spearhead a petition to have him prohibited from touching the Avengers script.
As a rule, its usually, 3 strikes your out, and he has already gone past this point, but I am serious about this petition idea if he messes this one up.

Totally agree, Penn is skating on VERY thin ice with me after he ruined X3, if i start to hear negative reviews about TIH come summer '08, i probably wont even see it.

I liked Last Action Hero....what? Sue me...not much though I'm broke.
But seriously the fact that awesome Mr. Norton is in this gives me hope that this'll be awesome! :)

Am I worried about the script? Yes.

Can my opinion change?Yes...

:D

Yup, I have to say I agree with you on that one.

Yeah, i liked it too, but there were others (and muuuuuuuuuch better i have to add) writers involved in that movie. But now that Penn is out of Fox's reign of mediocrty, we may be getting something worthwhile.

And although I really like the idea Norton as Banner, i wouldn't necessarly think the script is great because of that. Actors do crap for paychecks all the time (i remember hearing he didn't want to do The Italian Job, but he was under contract so he had to).

Norton is nortorious for being a difficult actor if he is unhappy with the material, even been known to rewrite the damned things himself, so no worries here - I may not be too excited about a Penn movie, but I'm totally hyped about a Norton movie.
