NX - Nintendo's Next Generation Hardware Concept

They won't announce it in the next few weeks, not with Sony doing their big announcement regarding the Neo. But I think it will be sometime this month. I don't think timing is their problem especially how quickly marketing moves today anyways. But they will have to message it much better than the Wii U. The Wii U many people just thought was the Wii with a few features and not an entirely new console. (Though some felt that way regardless) They have to distance themselves for that and really highlight what the NX can do for them.

My guess is the NX announcement comes at the end of this month. Just a hunch.

Yeah I figure around the week of the 19th they may make the announcement.

hmm if they don't say anything one by late September (which I sure cause Sony like that period to announce them selves')s I don't expect anything about the NX to be said til about some after Halloween. so it'll be some time in the winter season around November to December. between those two months latest. if not late October.

I found this:

Here is what you can expect from the final retail product:

Custom Nvidia GPU chip
Region Free (No region lock) <– Confirmed this.
Six inch (6.2 inch?) multi-touch screen (Heard nothing about a stylus)
The touchscreen has 720p resolution. <— 100% Confirmed.
32GB of built-in internal storage
SD card support
Supports USB 2.0 and 3.0
The dock has two 2.0 usb ports and one 3.0 usb port.
The device is around 14 – 15 mm in thickness.
The right analogue stick will be below the face buttons.
Camera and microphone are not built into/inside the NX portable device.
Cooling is still a little noisy
Detachable controllers (motion controls and next-gen vibration technology) <– Everything Laura Kate Dale said in her article was correct.
Share / Social button that Laura Kate Dale posted is true.
There are at least two shoulder buttons. I haven’t heard anything yet about triggers.
Battery Life — Ehhh not great. I haven’t heard an exact number of hours, but it doesn’t sound great.
Below PS4 and XB1 in raw power.
Supports Unreal Engine 4 and Unity Engine.

It says: Cooling is still a little noisy!?! Wth Nintendo - I don't want an active fan on a handheld! Imagine an Ipad with a fan! It would drive me nuts! Just think how burning hot it would get in your palms? I can see parents running amok already?!

Looks like the list I saw from a girl on Twitter that's been a reliable source for leaks and info.

Over at NeoGAF many are still unsure of how reliable she is. I'd take some of it with a grain of salt.

I think the Big new thing with NX will not be hardware but a Nintendo OS like android and iOS app store.

Play the same games across a ton of devices with minor upgrades all the Apple time.

Sounds like a rebrand of the Virtual Console/eShop...

All I care about is taking Zelda legit on the go. This is going to be rad.

But OoT and MM are on the 3DS, silly. ;) :p

If it's Emily Rogers, she has a very hit or miss record. Most of her recent leaks, outside Paper Mario, have been duds.

Well I think they will show it in September, but that article says the tournament lasts for 6 months. Don't think based on that they will have to show anything.

[*]It’s not really a secret that Nintendo has had some issues getting third party support. Bethesda which hasn’t had much on Nintendo consoles for a while, did not dismiss the idea of developing for the NX just yet. This comes from an interview from Metro of Pete Hines from Bethesda speaking about the subject:
M: Now, Nintendo is not a subject I ever imagined talking to you about. But there was a very interesting quote recently about you talking to them all the time. But I can’t imagine what about?
Pete Hines: [laughs] We talk to them about games! We talk to them about what they’re up to!
M: I’m glad to hear it, I’m just surprised.
Pete Hines: It’s not like we’ve never done anything on Nintendo. We haven’t done anything on Nintendo in a very long time, but we did some Star Trek stuff back in the day. Star Trek: Tactical Assault or something. Look, our philosophy is we want to make our games, as they’re designed and built, available on as many platforms as possible. And so Nintendo, as a maker of a platform, you want to constantly be in touch with them, to see what they’re doing, where they’re headed, and whether or not there might be some opportunities down the line, with where they’re going.
M: Third party support is a constant problem for them, but I think it’s questionable whether people would even buy things like Battlefield or GTA if they were on a Nintendo console. Is the reason you haven’t supported them much in the past partly because you don’t think your games would sell to that audience?
Pete Hines: No, no. it’s usually been one of a technical… hardware issue. It’s just, what it is that the devs are making and what are the hardware requirements that they’re looking at, to support what they’re making? And what fits? And anything that is below the line is, ‘Well, we can make it work, but we’d have to cut this or that or do it like…’ But no, that’s not the point. The point is to take the game, as you designed it, and to get it working on those platforms. Not make a bunch of cuts and a bunch of changes and bring out some other version of it.
M: So if NX is announced in the next few weeks and is as powerful as an Xbox One or higher, then…
Pete Hines: Then it will absolutely be something that we consider. Okay… let’s say they come out and say tomorrow it does X, Y, and Z. Well, Dishonored 2 is way down the road, it’s not in the conversation. But anything that is in development, I think we’d take a look at and see if technically does it line up with what they’re doing?
And then to your point, of course we always want to look at what we’re doing from an audience standpoint. But I think that we have any number of things that might appeal to the Nintendo audience. Maybe it’s not as appealing as Super Smash Bros., or it doesn’t appeal to that exact same audience, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not still an audience there.
M: Do you know what the NX is?
Pete Hines: We talk all the time to everybody, about what they’re up to.
M: [laughs] You can say whether you’ve seen it can’t you? Just as long as you don’t actually tell me anything.
    Pete Hines: [poker face] …
M: Boy, I bet those Nintendo NDAs are something else.
    Pete Hines: [laughs]
So do all you think we’ll be seeing Bethesda developing for the NX, or more third party support overall for the next Nintendo console?

What if there's two Skus?

A tv console and a handheld that plays the same games? Like a Vita with the same power as a Ps4?

Not a smart idea and almost takes away the appeal of it being a hybrid if its in fact two different machines

I feel Bethesda could definitely do something more with Nintendo if the innovation is there.

Just read the comments under some ign PS4 Pro news.

I don't care about power. Just as long as it works. 720p PS2 graphics work for me.

The power race is insane. If you win your fans with power there's no brand loyalty something better always comes along.

Lets get back to talking gameplay and not specs.

The thing is power is not just important to resolution, but also game size. Just look at how much more open Uncharted 4 was. The ps3 games looked great, but they were all relatively closed areas, whereas 4 featured much larger, open areas that were fully detailed. Graphics aside, this give developers more room to play with.

Now compare this to Breath of the Wild, and they're doing something similar. Yes, games like OoT were pretty open, but with more power, they can deliver a bigger world or locations with more of a variety. It's a big reason why PCs are so popular with a lot of people, because you can achieve high quality visuals and power without having much of an effect on how the game actually runs.

This is going in the Nx thread as well as here

EP Daily Rundown for September 20, 2016

Today in the Rundown, we catch the latest on the Nintendo NX and Pokémon, get some high resolution details on Microsoft's Project Scorpio, take a look at the new science fiction movie Passengers with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, hear from Hideo Kojima about the controversial new game Metal Gear Survive, and finally, have a quick look at Superman in the new season of Supergirl!

Not-so-wild details about Nintendo’s next system have appeared thanks to the makers of Pokémon. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara confirmed that they’re making games for Nintendo’s upcoming console, codenamed the NX. He didn’t elaborate on exactly what Pokémon games they’re bringing to the system, but he did add an interesting piece of information about the system itself. Ishihara says the NX will “change the concept of what it means to be a home console or handheld device,” which seems to confirm that it will be a hybrid between a console and handheld. There have already been loads of rumours that the NX will function as a stationary console like the Wii U, but with a controller than can be taken with you on the go like the 3DS. These new statements from The Pokémon Company are the best indication yet that this is the case. Maybe this means you’ll be able to play Pokémon Go on the NX. We’ll just have to wait and see. Nintendo should announce the first official details soon. The NX is slated to arrive in March 2017.

The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has spoken briefly about the Nintendo NX, and may have confirmed one of the system’s long-standing rumors. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ishihara gave some insight into what kind of system the NX would be and confirmed software from the company would hit the platform. He had this to say:
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX.”
It’s been long-rumored that the NX would feature both handheld and console functionality, and this latest quote seems to all but confirm that. Of course it’s not really official until Nintendo confirms it themselves. The Nintendo NX is set to be revealed sometime this year.

I fear it's gonna be late November before any real news :csad:

It's insane I know :loco: but I think Nintendo is trying to squeeze the 3DS dry.

There's an Animal Crossing thing and new "new" 3DS colours coming early November.
