It's almost the same as Skyward Sword, which I was hoping a change from. The new one looks so much better than that tech demo. What a beautiful art style. Looks almost like a painting.

NL: The Zelda series tells the story of a male hero rescuing a female princess. Would you ever consider giving Zelda her own game?
Aonuma: This is the second time I've received this question during this E3! I guess if people have strong feelings about it then it's something to consider. I'll keep that in mind! [laughs]
Game Informer - Is Link A Girl In Zelda On Wii U?
What are your reactions to everyone's reactions to the Zelda Wii U reveal?
Eiji Aonuma: Because I have been at E3, I haven't had much time to spend in doing this research, but I certainly have been checking fan reaction and I am really excited many comments have said how beautiful the game looks. The designers have been working really hard to make sure the visuals look like something players don't expect, or maybe something they haven't seen before, and this applies to not just to the scenery, but to the enemies and things like that.
Another interesting comment I've heard, quite frequently actually, is that, "Oh Link's a woman. Link is female now."
I thought that, too. I thought maybe it was Zelda when I first saw Link on Epona in the distance.
Eiji Aonuma: That might be something that consciously we kind of did, but not to say anything specific – I am not saying anything specific – but, I am hoping people continue to comment, and I will continue to follow the fan comments and reactions to the trailer. I am certainly curious, and I am sure there are things we as developers can glean.
Eiji Aonuma could simply be calling out a repeated comment that stood out to him, but the fact that he brought up the comment on his own, and said that maybe Link's gender was left unspecific on purpose could have greater meaning. Maybe Link is female in the new game, or maybe players can choose a gender at the beginning. Or maybe Link's features are just more feminine than they have been in the past. Whatever the case, Aonuma said we may learn more about the game next year.

That's the thing. I was hoping to go back to the style of OOT and MM, more like that tech demo. That's what I had in mind. TP was like that, but a bit on the gritty side, which I didn't really like. But OOT and MM had that perfect blend of everything. It's all too cartoony/cel-shaded looking now.Not really.. I'd say it's a good mix of Skyward Sword... Wind Waker and Tech demo.
Link has long been mistaken for a girl though.
"It's a rumour," Aonuma said with a chuckle when I asked him about the speculation buzzing around online.
"Actually that comment I made jokingly," he said. "It's not that I said that it wasn't Link. It's that I never said that it was Link. It's not really the same thing, but I can understand how it could be taken that way.
"It seems like it has kind of taken off where people are saying 'oh it's a female character' and it just kind of grew. But my intent in saying that was humour. You know, you have to show Link when you create a trailer for a Zelda announcement."
However, he doesn't want players to focus too much on Link's appearance in the trailer.
"I don't want people to get hung up on the way Link looks because ultimately Link represents the player in the game," he said.
"I don't want to define him so much that it becomes limiting to the players. I want players to focus on other parts of the trailer and not specifically on the character because the character Link represents, again, the player."
I would much rather have a new Zelda game than majoras mask
It's interesting that the possibility of playing as Zelda has fans clinging to tradition, while the new open world doesn't. As a fan of SS, WW, TP, and OoT, my biggest concern is playing an Elder Scrolls game called the Legend of Zelda, not whether or not the protagonist will be a woman. I don't like Skyrim for a reason.
