You can cross off the Tigers, Marlins, Cubs, and White Sox as potential teams for A-Rod. Those teams basically confirmed they won't go after him.

Yankees will offer A-Rod arbitration. If he accepts. he will be a signed player and will either negotiate a contract or let an abritrator decide.

The Padres have intrest in Matt Clement and Mark Prior.

I think he had shoulder surgery that ended his season. He was in triple-A to start the season. Then they brought him up on the 60-day DL so they could keep someone in the minors.

Pirates should sign A-Rod.

....It could happen.

In a parallell universe :csad:

A-Rod signing with the Yankees is about as likely as Bill Belichick going out to dinner with Eric Mangini.

Phillies should take a chance on Prior

They should...

Phillies take a chance with Brad Lidge.

The Red Sox are cosidering having a 6-man roation next year.

Beckett
Matsuzaka
Wakefield
Lester
Schilling
Buchholz

I don't think it's a bad idea. If Schilling doesn't stay healthy next year you would still have a fab 5.

I wonder if Beckett will go for that.

This is what Theo said about it.

I'm sure that topic will come up a lot," Epstein said. "It's an interesting concept given the personnel we have, but it's not something we've fully explored yet."

Of course they would. Typical Padres, picking up another teams forgotten talent.

Oh and I really do think A-rod is going to land in either LA or Anaheim. I think Anaheim has the edge.

It should be Anaheim. They have the money and they need a strong bat behind Vlad. It's a very good fit for him and it's a low-pressure fan base. The Dodgers have all those needs as well, but I think Arte Morneo will do whatever it takes to get him.

Edit: If A-Rod decides to go to one of those teams than it's likely the other team will persue Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins. Even if he doesn't go to one of those teams, they will persue Cabrera anyway. I have also been hearing that Dontrelle Willis could be included in the Cabrera deal that will create the mother of all trades.

Dodgers would be a great fit for A-Rod... Anaheim just doesn't seem to be the sexy market... not that he needs that. But the Angels are old news... they are a good team... nothing more. Its not the same as if you go out and win a Championship in San Fran or L.A. Those are better markets that are dying for a player of this caliber. One of those two need to come up with the checks and pay this guy. I think he will end up in one of those two places with the Angels at number 3... unless Anaheim can dump some major payroll over the next few years on top of guys like Colon they shouldn't go higher than the 28.5 million on average.

And Yankees are idiots if they just sit on this offseason like they sort of did last off season... Yankee fans can bull sh:t all they want... I refuse to believe that team is in a transition stage and is trying to rebuild... they have chips on the table... Kennedy and Melky are easily dispensable... plus that have a bunch of arms in the second tier of that farm system... just look at this lineup for a second.

Jeter
Hunter
Abreau
Miguel Cabrera
Giambi/Duncan
Posada
Cano
Matsui
Mienkewich

Or else Giambi as the cleanup hitter is a scary thought... unless Cano elevates his game but even he is no where close to being a cleanup hitter. Duncan and Cano need to step up big regardless of who they bring in though.

That could work, or you could put Wake in the bullpen...I mean imagine spending 5-7 innings trying to swing at Becketts fastball then tossing a knuckleballer in there for 2 innings or so. It would really f up a hitters timing.

Nice trade for the Phillies, they got a actual closer now and can move Myers back to the rotation. Putting Myers back in the rotation is better then any move they could have made for a starter so Im happy with the trade.

That trade was awful. Brad Lidge can't close under pressure. The 'wonderful' Philly fans aren't going to help him. The Phillies were dumb trading a reliever, OF, and 3B when they have a ****ty bullpen as it is, will likely lose Aaron Rowand, and have no 3B.

Angels can afford A-Rod. They're just cheap. They've confirmed they'd "love" to have A-Rod which is where he will likely go. The Angels only have like 4 or 5 guys that aren't under arbitration.

Don't bring up Shelly Duncan. He shouldn't even be on a 40-man roster. He's a AAAA player at best. The most he will ever amount to is a very, very, very bad version of Dave Kingman. Yankees are overrating him if they think he can be a major league player.

They gave up a 3B prospect who wasn't gonna play here next year anyway...more of a throw in player in the trade....Bourne who can't hit whatsoever....he's speedy and plays a nice CF, and a reliever who has had his trouble just like Lidge. Lets not forget before the Pujols HR off Lidge he was absolutely lights out....he was the reason the Astros traded that bumpkin Wagner.

Say they don't resign Rowand...they'll move Victorino to CF, they will have a new starting 3B this year...that is a promise

according to keith law on espn.com, this was a pretty good trade for the phillies. lidge was much better towards the end of the season and a change of scenery should help him. the astros didn't get much value on their end of the trade. the 3B is a fringe player who probably won't be much more than a part-time player/pinch hitter. bourn's overrated since he's just a watered down version of juan pierre, and the pitcher they got is a mediocre middle-reliever. with the lidge in the closer role they can move the wife-beater back to the rotation and solidify it a bit more.

do they still have iguchi under contract? if so, they could move him to 3B, or maybe go after crede.

Not when the new scenery is Philadelphia.

He's a FA and has said he doesn't want to play 3B.

we'll see...

Billy Wagner had success in Philly and was still being booed every time he came out of the bullpen. Lidge won't last long. He's still suffering PTSD (thanks to Albert Pujols).
