The Castillo signing is horrible. I still am not sure if it's true since there's only been a report from Ken Rosenthal (he said a deal was only close, not final) and that Spanish site. However, it's not going to kill the Mets and the problem of no pitching still exists. If Dan Haren, Johan Santana, Erik Bedard, Scott Kazmir, or some starter with their level of talent are not on the Mets by Spring Training and they fail to make the playoffs, I would support Minaya being fired. He's really not been an impressive GM. All he does is little trades and big deals.

Would you have rather had Eckstein at 9 million a year though?

Scutaro traded to the Blue Jays

No, but no one is holding a gun to their head making them sign a FA. I would have gone with a platoon of Damion Easley, Ruben Gotay, and Marlon Anderson at 2B. Play Easley and Anderson when groundball pitchers are pitching and Gotay with flyball pitchers are pitching (for the Mets). This keeps the spot open next year for Orlando Hudson. If he isn't available, there's a chance Ruben Gotay becomes an adequate fielder and can be the everyday 2B. Normally I don't like banking on signing a guy who will be a FA next year but it's the best option, IMO.

I KNow... stupid angels.. but it looks like Torii Hunter wants to be in Blue.. if thats the case... we can move Pierre to left and trade Kemp/Ethier and Kershaw for Johan???:woot:

That would be a pointless trade for the Dodgers. They will have a good enough rotation next year. They should put their resources to finding a power hitter.

EDIT: Pending a physical, Castillo's signing is official.

They're reaching Juan Pierre status with this contract.

got that from the site on my sig :cwink:

I don't agree with that trade at all. Any trade that involves Ethier and kershaw is a no go. I don't care who it's for. Id be willing to part with Kemp, but not Ethier and not Kershaw. I think Ethier is going to have an astounding career. His ability to adapt and drive the ball is so impressive.

Hey! That was mean :(

Fortunately it's 4 years and not 5 and there's still the physical that needs to be passed. Hopefully the doctor doesn't like his knees.

At least the Mets didn't go crazy with the dollar figure, half of what Pierre got from LA. Although 4 years is way too much, perhaps 2, or 1 would've been appropriate.

I would have done 2 with an option for a 3rd. If he wants a 3rd or 4th guaranteed year, I wouldn't bother continuing the discussion. I'd rather overpay for 1-2 years than pay market value for 3-4.

really?? cause i like Kemp better than Ethier.. but i would trade either one of them .. :oldrazz: ..Johan would RIP up the NL.... and we cant rely on Schmidt:cmad:

Rotation

would be

Santana
Penny
Lowe
Bills
Schmidt

OF would be set

Pierre
Hunter
Kemp/Ethier

As would I, he's always been a great admirer of Jackie Robinson.

Would they move Noodle-Arm to LF?

If I was a Dodger fan, I would rather keep 2 good, young OF and a very good, young, LHP. You have control over them for a long time. Santana you may not be able to sign for an extension. I feel differently as a Met fan b/c they have a weak rotation (no one will pitch over 200 innings) and don't have the best pitching prospect in baseball.

Congratulations to Magglio Ordonez, 2nd in the MVP voting. They knew how much he means to the Tigers

Gotcha

It's either him or David Eckstein at this point.

I feel our rotation is good enough with Penny, Lowe and Bills. I would like a move for a solid 4 or 5 guy. Johan WOULD dominate the NL. Worst hitting division in the MLB. But he wants Zito type of money and I feel we could not compete with NY or BOS, if we were to get him and when his contract is up.

But, yeah I would not want to give up either of them. Defensively they are both solid. Offensively I feel Ethier is better. Kemp can smash the ball, but Etiher can do it all and do it consistently and with Mattingley on board, look for Loney, Ethier and Kemp to have BIG years. This is the year, I feel, American starts to notice these 3.

Rotation
Johan(?)
Penny
Lowe
Billingsley
???

Who would occupy the 5th spot? And if LA doesn't get Johan, how would those two voids be filled?

Schmidt is always an option but thats a huge IF. Loaiza can, but eh. he's a gas can. We have kids in the minors who can come up.

Dodger fans, I thought of a wild trade a few days ago: Juan Pierre and Russell Martin for Carlos Beltran. What do you think? It'd never happen but I want to know how crazy it seems to you guys.

I don't get that trade since the White Sox re-signed Juan Uribe.

A-Rod wins the MVP with 382 points. Ordonez finishes 2nd followed by Guerrero, Ortiz, and Lowell.

He was the favorite among shortstops with batting averages below .240
