Comics Official (adjectiveless) X-MEN Discussion Thread

Actually I was just thinking that cover looks pretty weak. I like the layout, but I'm used to much better quality art from him. Unless I'm thinking of Andy. I can never remember which has a better style.

That Adam Kubert cover for #41 is BOSS...though it has left off quite a few members...Havok, Warpath/Proudstar, Polaris, Maggot, Marrow, Cecilia Reyes, Thunderbird, Sunfire, Madison Jeffries/Box, Dr. Nemesis, Cannonball, Cable, X-Man, Armor, Pixie, Omega Sentinel, Thunderbird III, Lifeguard, Rachel Summers-Grey, Hepzibah, Sage

...not to mention villain members: Mystique, Sabretooth, Joseph, Juggernaut, Lady Mastermind

what about Mimic? Does he count? Northstar? Domino? Warbird? Fantomex? Stacy X? Nocturne? Do the forgotten X-men count? (Vulcan, Darwin, Sway and Petra?)

..oh..and Legion
well its not meant to have every member who's been with the team. This isnt like Xmen 200. He has representaives of most of the key eras in X-history. You have the O5, Giant Size X-men (Nightcrawler, Colossus), early 80s (Kitty), Australian Era (Storm, Dazzler, Longshot) the interim team (Forge, Banshee), Blue (Gambit, Wolverine, Psylocke, Rogue, Jubilee), Gold (Bishop) New X-men (Emma, Xorn), Utopia (Namor, Danger, Magneto) and most recently Extinction team (Magik, Hope). Of courses there's plenty of overlap (especially towards the end), but still, I think he did a good job with what he was going for. The only era that I would say is missing is the post OZT lineup and having either Marrow, Cecilia or Maggott there would have sufficed. For the O5, he probably could have had at least one of them in their 60s gear but I guess Bobby is the closest to that but not really

Any news on if this book is being relaunched or whatever?

I think you're thinking Andy, I always preferred his artwork to Adam's.

As speculated, the Marvel NOW! relaunch of X-Men will feature an all-female lineup under the purview of writer Brian Wood and artist Olivier Coipel, as announced Monday morning on USAToday.com.

The teaser released a week earlier simply said "XX" and had a double helix, implying the XX chromosome lineup of female (versus XY for male), leading to speculation of which of Marvel's mutants would lead the way into a new age with an all-woman lineup. While the other half of speculation, that the title would shift to "X-Women" was wrong, the lineup for this cast is largely as guessed.

Storm, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Summers, Psylocke, and slight surprise Jubilee adorn the first cover image for the NOW! X-Men launching April 2013. In fact, Jubilee is the "main star" of the book, according to USAToday's interview with Wood.

"I feel like as far as the X-Men go, the women are the X-Men," Wood explains to USAToday. "Cyclops and Wolverine are big names, but taken as a whole, the women kind of rule the franchise."

And Wood is going to be putting these X-Women into a lot of trouble very quickly. Sublime, from Grant Morrison's now-classic run on the series is back, and as a reluctant ally. There are aliens, Sentinels, and ancient sibling rivalries that creep into the present day, as well as love, relationships and sex - everything classic X-stories are made of.

While Jubilee is the star, Wood says it won't be a "'Jubilee and friends book.' They're all A-list characters — I've got to make them all shine."

Wood also says he's pulling inspiration from two major runs with the mutants of Marvel, he hopes to pull a sense of personal feel from Chris Claremont's classic decades-spanning run, saying he loved " how they related to each other and the stuff they went through personally" in the run. He'll also look to Morrison's New X-Men for more than just the villainous Sublime, saying "It had everything: It had that classic cast doing the classic stuff — very recognizable and big action."

While Wood doesn't claim to be the biggest X-fan in the world, he does say it's the only corner of the Marvel Universe he really wants to work in.

"That's all I'm interested in writing at Marvel," Wood told USAToday. "Every so often I get asked, 'Is there anything else you want to do?' And I'm like, 'I don't know.' The X-Men are right up my alley — what I'm most comfortable with."

LOL...we have such different tastes bc Rachel is the worst part of it for me, followed by Jubilee and Rogue. Good to see Psylocke and Storm here but they are already on UXF and Im indifferent to Kitty, although it will be good to see her on a team again.

Why oh why does Jubilee have to be the main star?

Storm and Psylocke are cool, Rachel's just somebody I can never read enough of. I straight up dislike Jubilee and Kitty and I'm just plain tired of Rogue. The book just sounds like it's gonna be Claremont-tastic.

Seriously I'm having Kitty and Rogue overkill. Storm and Betsy are supposed to be on the fringes in X Force. Although Jubilee isn't much liked at times at least until recently she was underused, Rachel is just back from space but Jean has come back so see no point in her. How many other X Women out there who are in no other comics could have been used??

a bunch.

If they de-vampire Jubillee and give her her powers back (with slight amplification) then she's a blast...or possibly turn her into Wondra?...no? it was worth a shot.

Would have loved to see Cecilia, Dazzler, Domino, Frenzy, Lifeguard, Marrow, Polaris, Sabra, Sage and Sentinel in this book too. Throw in Blink or Lila Cheney for some teleportation goodness

BOOM! Yes. Throw in Blink, Cecilia, Marrow, Polaris, or any of the kids - Surge, Pixie, Dust, Mercury. Just to mix it up a little bit. It seems stagnant. Still, I'm going to read the HECK out of this book.

So Sublime is going to be in this? I thought he was just an individual possessed by the Sublime bacteria? Or does Here Comes Tomorrow not count lol.

Really looking forward to see what Brian Wood has in store for this series. He was pretty solid in the WATXM limited series and the X-Men title.
