    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

Official Batman Titles thread 2.0 - - - - - - - Part 16

Is Batman & Robin Eternal going to continue from Batman Eternal, or is it going to be a prequel storyline, considering the promo art for it is of Grayson Robin, and the fact that the current crop of Bat titles is not with Bruce?

I definitely want to check out Robin War though, sounds like fun.

I don't think it will be a prequel. It will probably be about how the batfamily discover Dick ain't dead.

So that #42 ending....
Is it me, or did after TDKR film, seems like everyone's doing their own Batman-fakes-death-to-retire-cowl story to see if they can top the film's kinda mediocre way of telling that story. First Arkham Knight's ending, then this. I don't know if I like this general direction. Everyone's trying to make Bruce quit.

I would put it more down to the fact that both the Arkham games and the new 52(there are/were rumours that Snyders going to be finished with Batman soon also) were coming to an end that they both decided to go down that route rather than it having anything to do with the film.

Well, the three main protagonists are Dick (his comeback party in story), Cassandra Cain (her comeback party in a meta sense), and Harper Rowe (her "we introduced this character, we'd better keep using her" storyline). The latter two seem to guarantee a modern focus, but you're right about the cover seeming to suggest some flashbacks. I'm personally hoping that we're dealing with a reopened cold case that tied into all the Robins' careers. That'd be a great way to tie into the anniversary of the identity, and it would give them plenty of material to work with that wouldn't just be filler, which was one of Eternal's problems.

And I'm hoping that somewhere in this weekly and crossover business, the Bat office has received permission to take over Tim Drake's custody and retcon his past. The last two volumes of Teen Titans have done nothing good for the character, the "never Robin, always Red Robin" idea still sucks, and he needs a new direction that will actually differentiate him from Dick, since the New 52 version is basically a poorly written substitute of Nightwing with an un-earned arrogance problem. It's kind of like Lobdell took the aspects that were flaws in the Pre Flashpoint solo, and wanted to somehow make them intrinsic core characterizations.

Can anyone who reads "Batman '66" tell me if Scarecrow has appeared in the series?

That's good to hear, pretty excited about BRE, since I loved the original eternal and actually found the fillers in there quite entertaining, and of course the return of Cassandra! But what's the word on Bruce's status as Batman, considering the current run in main Bat titles has a different status quo currently?

Looking forward to Bane's. :woot:

Just finished Earth One Vol 2 last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was as good as volume one, in my opinion and cleverly introduced us to Two Face and Riddler. Great story and great art work. Anyone know if they're planning on a volume three?

Of course.

Earth One books are an ongoing thing.

Two new additions to the ’66 Rogues Gallery are introduced in two stories. The Scarecrow is here to say “boo” to the good citizens of Gotham City, and to chase off the Caped Crusader. Then, a former henchman of King Tut has taken on a green, scaly look and roams the sewers under the city streets!

Bruce's status for BRE appears to be that he's absent. Also, the story does seem to have some flashbacks to at least Dick's days in the suit:

It’s here at last—the sequel to the blockbuster weekly series BATMAN ETERNAL!
Five years ago, Batman and Robin worked the most disturbing case of their crimefighting careers—bringing down the organization of the ultimate human trafficker, the mysterious woman known only as Mother. At the time, Dick Grayson never quite understood the scope of that case, but now its darkest secrets are coming back to haunt him and everyone else who ever worked with Batman! With Bruce Wayne now lost to them, Dick and all his allies are out in the cold! Who can they trust? Is someone among them not who they say they are? And who is the deadly, silent young woman in black who’s come to Gotham City looking for Batman?
Prepare yourself for six months of international intrigue, twists and turns, and new additions to the world of Batman and Robin, from showrunners James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder, and writers Tim Seeley, Steve Orlando, Genevieve Valentine, Ed Brisson, and Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelley!

I'm pretty goddamn excited that Tomasi is going to be writing Detective, with Marcio Takara on art.

Am I dense or (Batman #42 spoilers)...

was the Gordon/Sawyer scene confusing? It was jarring when it came in in the middle of the fight. I still don't know when it took place.

Fantastic!

So the only remaining classic Batman villains who have yet to appear in the series are Ras al Ghul, Man-Bat, The Ventriloquist and Firefly.

Kind of intrigued after reading up on Batman and Robin Eternal. I didn't read the first series (though I might in the future), but this one definitely has my attention.

Me too it's a pity fernando pasarin is the artist on his first issue though. I really dislike his work.

Snyder tweeted these tonight:
Had an idea for another Joker story recently - something really dark though, for out of continuity, like a gn. Hopeful. We'll see!

I always think I'm done with Joker, but he still scares me, and I get ideas. This'd be a different take though, something simple.

I'd be down with another Joker OGN.

I think there is more to the joker than just being dark and creepy though (although it makes sense to write him like that). If he does write it, let's hope it really is a different take this time around.

this time joker rips his head off and walks around without a head for awhile
