I remember the case being that they went back to the unknown killer idea with zero hour.

In fact, wasnt Joe Chill in Year Two, which was published in the late 80s?

I'm sorry, but I find it ridiculous when writers/editors try and reverse the Joe Chill thing

At the end of the day, its ultimately about the fact that his parents are dead, and he's angry about it. Him finding Chill will not change the fact that his parents are dead and hes angry about it, IMO. Bruce made the vow to war on all criminals, not just the guy who killed his parents.

Honestly, Joe Chill has produced more memorable comics than "I cant find my parents killers, let me be angsty about it". When Denny O Neil brought back the unknown killer idea in the 90's, it felt like yet another forced tactic to make Batman grimdark.
Because torturing a guy to the point of suicide is all sunshine and cheer...

^ I dont recall saying Morrison's version of Joe Chill was "sunshine and cheer".

It definetely didnt feel forced, I'll tell you that much.

You said removing Joe Chill was a ploy to make Batman more grimdark. It seems like his stories with Chill make him more grimdark to me. Attempting to murder Chill outside of the courthouse in Batman Begins, torturing Chill in Morrison's version, etc.

There's nothing wrong with grimdark when it serves an actual purpose. All those examples you listed were darker moments in otherwise more balanced versions of Batman. They also show you how Batman eventually became more mature.

"I'll never find my parents killer" always felt like an attempt to add more negative aspects to Post Crisis Batman, in addition to being a jerk, and living in a hopelessly evil city, and having sidekicks get hurt/killed/maimed. It's just one more crappy thing on a list of crappy things that happened to 90'd/Early 00's Batman.

Yes, they did.

I agree.

That makes Batman more heroic to me. Literally everything works against him, yet he perseveres and keeps fighting the good fight. Couple that with the Bat-family and his usual no-kill rule and he reveals himself to be one of the most staunchly altruistic heroes in the DC universe in spite of the grim facade he tries to present to everyone else. I like that.

Granted, that can still be done with Joe Chill having been caught and maimed or tortured or whatever, but like I said before, it just weakens the symbolism a bit.

I agree, except for the Joe Chill thing. I prefer Batman's problems to stem more from his present than his past.

Do people generally like what Morrison did with Chill? Because I think it's ****ing stupid and goes against pretty much everything Batman stands for.

"Here you go, just kill yourself! Not really something Batman should ever do or say.

The issue dealt with flashbacks and hallucinations. We don't even know if it actually happened or not.

oh right, I forgot about that. well, I still think it's stupid. :o

As a hallucination, it makes sense. I don't care how altruistic a person you are, you know damn well you'd have fantasized about every kind of torment you could rain down on the man who murdered your parents. Being a good person just means not putting those fantasies into practice.

I read Batman #5 on the iPad. Some of the pages were either upside down or rotated sideways. But when I turn my iPad, the pages turn with it.

Kind of a pain in the ass :o.

Scott Lobdell talks Night of the Owls!
1329500309.jpg

He doesn't talk much new, outside of giving Mr. Freeze a new look, Tim & Jason Todd meet up was incredibly exciting and will have fans throwing their cheerios away alongside talking about how Bruce feels about Jason. Feels like the issue was originally suppose to end with Jason throwing the defeated Talon infront of the batcave with a message, but that got edited out as it didn't fit.

What happens after Night of the Owls for the Outlaws:
I can't wait for the tenth and eleventh issues of "Red Hood!" There is a two-part story that finds Jason and Roy in outer space as part of the crew under Kori's command -- and the guys learn first hand that their "lil' princess" is one of the most feared and respected figures in the galaxy! Wait until you get a load of the rest of her crew! I'm telling you, if this isn't a spin-off waiting to happen...!

I really hope that isn't Mr Freeze's new look because its utterly hideous

I think that might be one of the worst designs for a character new or old I've ever seen. It looks like Image Comics took some serious drugs and this is what it threw up

That Freeze redesign is a vast improvement over the "Oh i have a glass bubble on my head. If you break it, i lose". Same deal with Bane's venom pump line. Too many Batman villains have easy weak spots, but now Mr. Freeze doesn't have his.

Not to mentiona Hook gun vastly overweights your opinions, that is the power of Hook guns.

Needs more fishbowl helmet. Freeze and Mysterio are their fishbowl helmets. To remove them is unthinkable.

Agreed

That design is an abomination. It looks like an even more awful version of the hideous design the character had in The Batman. They should have gone with the Batman: The Animated series design

Freeze without his helmet needs to gtfo :down

Freeze without his helmet is unacceptable Drz

Search your feelings you know this to be true

Also he has hair what the what. Freeze is bald and beautiful get that hair off his head DC

I have no complaints about his wacky freeze ray

I'd have been good with the Arkham City design. He looks like a walking tank in that.

But he'd still retain that "Oh my glass helmet" weakness. :|

That would be awesome. Batman slaps yet another explosive to his helmet and is all smug, then nothing happens and Freeze is all, "Mwahahaha, did you think I wouldn't learn, foolish little man?" Which, now that I think about it, is pretty much exactly what happens in Arkham City. It's f***ing horrifying when you keep hitting him over and over with the little tricks to hurt him and he just keeps on coming.

I don't understand why he shouldn't. What the hell is going on with that design regarding the whole containment thing anyway? It looks like all of his cold is escaping through the open neck and his naked f***ing arms.

It looks like he's swearing a sleeveless shirt and pants with taps attached to them

Also it looks like he's melting

Freeze pities the Batman's foolishness :BA

I've got the urge to play some Arkham City now. Freeze be :awesome: sauce in that game
