He should've spanked his bottom yelling, "Good little boys don't murder people!"
So....Damien kills a man and Bruce just shruggs?
Don't get me wrong.....I think it was the only thing they could do. But Bruce is so dead set against killing that I thought he might turn Damien over to the police.

Damien has killed before. He brought a decapitated head to the Batcave in the story Morrison introduced him in. We've also seen Damien as the Future Batman kill and repent for killing.
The context is different, I feel. Before, he killed a guy just to prove he was more hardcore than the many Robins. He was an unlikable nutcase. Here, he killed an assassin threatening retribution who Bruce himself almost killed, and felt considerable regret afterwards. Maybe it's a step back from his time with Dickman. But it's still a length away from the kid who was raised to be an unrepentant killer.

Yeah, lock him up in the Batcave. I mean, clearly he can't be trusted out in public in that Robin costume, unless Batman wants to officially condone killing and have Gordon turn on his ass in a heartbeat.

The fact that he displayed regret clearly shows that his progress in B&R's previous volume has not been forgotten. The fact that he felt remorse just reinforced his progress as a person in that run so it's not a step back.
Not all problems can be solved by head squishing 'Nubsy![]()
Actually, 99.5% of all problems can be solved by head squishing.

Which means a slap on the wrist (if even that) and they go along like nothing happened? Man, I miss the days when Bruce straight-up booted people out of the Bat-family if they took a life under his watch. This morally ambiguous version feels like it's compromising a lot of what drew me to the character in the first place. He killed in Morrison's last Batman comic (Leviathan Strikes) too. Oh and Mysti about that Bruce was shocked and Morrison didn't address repercussions cause there were no pages left. I wouldn't be surprised to see that brought up by Morrison again this summer.
People are really missing the point of Bruce giving his son "a pass". It was just a way to reiterate that Batman HIMSELF has had the same feelings of "let me just end it by killing them" many times before. However he manages to fight off those urges and strive for some type of moral code to abide by which is much harder but doesn't drag his soul to hell like being an intentional killer eventually would.
Damian is truly now learning that because his father is someone who's also been there and understands that unlike say Dick Grayson. Like Bruce said "you're as much my son as you're your mothers" that was in reference to his killer instinct.
It's a darkness Bruce has dealt with battling his whole career as Batman and he wants to help his son understand how to take on that battle on his own.Hence the kid saying "don't give up on me father" and Batman telling him that he never will.
He understands that the kid is still 10 and grew up with assassins. He's not going to shake off his killer instinct over night no matter how much he's around the bat fam. It's something Bruce has to deal with himself when it comes to his son.
