This reminds me of that conversation between Gene Rodenberry and a news reporter when Star Trek TNG came out and Rodenberry was asked why didn't they cure baldness by the 23rd century, referring to Captain Picard. And Rodenberry answered is not that they didn't cure it, but in the 23rd century nobody would care. :)

I can't believe the lack of body hair is being discussed in this comicbook movie now.

Once again, I don't really care that much. BUT, strength and especially bone strength are related to testosterone levels. So if the serum is designed to make the organism work at peak efficiency that in my mind at least means that his body will either have increased levels of testosterone, or he will use that testosterone more efficiently. Either way, he should grow hair in funny places. :p
I have high testosterone levels (gives me acne), I don't have any chest hair. Tons of leg hair, though.

Oki, I'm terribly sorry for bringing it up. :p

Pardon me for being off-topic again. I think one overriding reason for this is that due to the Eugenics Wars of the late 1990s, genetic-engineering of any kind had been banned by Earth and later the Federation. Of course what you say about no-one caring is true as well. Still, people will naturally wonder why we still age etc in that universe.

Well there you go. :D Didn't think there was any other explanation beyond Marvel made Chris Evans shave but Vita rays work for me. :D

me too lol

ok not that much acne, and ok, not that much leg hair.
but.......................um what were we talking about again?

I think there could be a number of reason for the lack of chest hair:-

There's the possiblity that they waxed it off to show muscularity and definition in order to make Evans' build look as impressive as they could given that the shirtless\post transformation scene is the money shot to show just how well the SSS works. Professional bodybuilders do the same when competing; hell, they shave\wax almost everything.

There's the possiblity that they simply went with a 'well, the way he's drawn in the origin is that he has no chest hair - so Chris wont either' mantra.

And there is, of course, also the possiblity that Marvel reasoned that while the hardcore fans may begrudgingly accept the brown/very dirty blonde hair as opposed to blonde, the acceptance of accompanying dark chest hair (which Evans has) may create an overall image that may have just stretched that acceptance a little too far. I mean, even I can see it now - the number of internet complaints: ''Dark chest hair and dark hair - that isnt the Steve Rogers that I grew up with!!! I'm boycotting this movie!!!!!''

But, I gotta say, just like the straps on the costume and other gripes I'm reading about at the moment on various threads, it's not really a big deal to me. As far as I'm concerned - everythings looking great so far to me.

Greater than expected actually.

chest hair is genetic, has nothing to do with testosterone. ok

my uncle's a biologist, so can we please move on now :P

I honestly don't know jack s**t about Captain America other than the absolute basics. I do know that you guys are debating chest hair and not much else, which tells me that Joe Johnston and Chris Evans seemed to have nailed the look.

I'm really surprised at how few complaints there have been. It's like half the board suddenly reversed engines.

Only on a fan page for superheros can conversations like this be held and are not considered at least a little bit gay...

Wow...we're all debating the genetics of chest hair?

yeah feet and chest hair overwhelming any criticism of his actual look.

Not that I mind it, I love what weve seen so far.

But really, no debate about him wearing a helmet instead of a mask or something like that...?
Instead, it's "wheres the body hair??!"
Lol, they nailed it.

Since I'm the one who started I feel the need to clarify that I just wanted to make a joke. I thought it was funny that Captain America has no chest hair, but Chris Evans was allowed to keep his fur for Fantastic Four. Where he was ALSO a blonde I might add. I fully expected people to be like "**** hater" and that'd be that. Who knew somebody would actually offer me an explanation about Veta rays and genetics and such. I wasn't complaning. I just noticed they shaved his chest, which in Evans case is pretty noticeable because he DOES appear shirtless in most of his movies. :p

I'm sorry. Really really sorry. Didn't mean to cause a fuzz. I mean fuss.

Well now that we've seen post-serum Steve Rogers, I can't wait to see pre-serum Steve Rogers. I hope he is really really bony.
