Official Early Bought/Thought Thread **SPOILERS**

Runaways #26 - Molly totally pwns the Punisher. Great, great moment. Other than that, a fight with lots of ninjas (Is Bendis writing this?), and a trip back to....well, enough spoilers for now.

Wouldn't the point of this thread be to go all out on spoilers??

Okay, I guess I see what the problem is. You guys don't accept it unless the reviews are bitter diatribes against Marvel and the particular comic being reviewed. I also won't use spoiler tags, because for some inane reason, that actually upsets people. But I always say, give the people what they want.

With that in mind, the all-new re-tooled "Official Early Bought/Thought Thread **SPOILERS** "

Runaways #26 - Well, what did you expect with the Punisher on the cover? If JQ wanted to make a blatant push for this comic, why didn't he just slap Spidey and Wolvie in an issue (whoops, been there, done that). As usual, the "guest appearance" provides nothing more than some cheap laughs, as Molly practically disembowels him with a super-punch. Well. Isn't this the guy who has stood up to pretty much every major character in the MU and lived to talk about it?! The same guy that survived Vietnam/ Are you telling me this highly trained soldier let a little chidler get the better of him? Come. On. And ninjas? Is the House of Ideas so out of them that this is the only well to draw from. Hello? I guess since Frank killed all the low-levels at Stilt-Mans funeral, ninjas are all we got left. Chalk up another one to the brain trust at Marvel. (And can we PLEASE cool it on the ads for Comic Collector Live every three freakin' pages. We get it. We can download it. Stop now. And isn't nine pages of ads getting to be kind of excessive? I mean, who reading these things is going to buy a jeep for God's sake.) So, ninjas, Kingpin, Runaways running away with a gadget, which turns out to be a flux capacitor, because you guessed it, the Runaways are going Back in Time......Can you say Jump the Shark?

That's better but you're still not there yet. You need to have reviews that take up the entire page, like Dread's

I only have so much time and energy to elicit a cheap laugh.

Seriously guys, calm down. If there's something spoiler worthy, I'll put it. I really don't want to post a page by page, blow by blow review. If you want some more details, just ask, I'll be glad to provide.

(I was poking fun of Dread a little bit. I hope he doesn't mind :O )

We don't care about what is said in the reviews, provided that they don't suck total balls and don't go against mainstream opinion.

Just make them meatier.

Got these three last night. Not much to say about two of them, but I'll write them up if anybody wants it. I can even be bitter and snarky if it's required.(I did enjoy GR. Wolverine: Origins less so.)

Amazing Spider-man #540 - More badassery from black-suited Pete. Most of the issue is him tracking down the sniper. He throws people out windows, breaks people's arms, and is basically a menace to society. And I like it. At some point, he needs to come to his senses, but I like seeing him cut loose. As he's trying to get info out of the assassin, he (the assassin) gets shot, on orders from the Kingpin, to keep him from talking. The assassin is taken to the same hospital that May is in, and dies there. The assassin of the assassin goes to the hospital to make sure the job was done. Pete senses him (spider-tracer), and goes out to confront him. He's talking on his cell phone with the Kingpin. Pete very quietly (very clever sequence by the way) takes the phone and hears the Kingpin's voice. They have a very short, polite conversation that pretty much tells you where Pete will be going next......jail! (to visit Fisk and see if he likes the accomodations there.)

Ghost Rider #11

Wolverine Origins #14

Runaways #26 -

Good to see Punisher can be beaten by little girls with super powers.

Got these three last night, hopefully some more on the way….

Just some general thoughts on the three, rather than blow by blow reviews. If you want more details, just shout out:

Exiles #94 – The final part to Claremont’s first story. Typical Claremont. Nothing really bad, but nothing to make you want to run out and buy next issue. Nothing all that interesting really happened, which is the first time I’ve said that about an Exiles comic. Basically, Susan ends up destroying the world, just as Heather said, but it “gets better.” No explanation why, just because Reed is really smart. Oh, and he hid a billion or two people in Valeria’s amulet. Did you know a couple billion people were missing? I didn’t. Oh well, welcome to the Claremont school of “I’ll throw everything in there and see what makes sense.” I would get Claremont off of here, or #100 might be a Giant-Sized Final Issue.

Uncanny X-men #486 – I have to say that I was looking forward to this storyline, but most of the time, it just seemed like we were waiting for something to happen. It did seem to heat up a little with the last issue, but just like that, it’s over. I really liked the idea of Vulcan being the new emperor, and I think that there’s still some stories to be told here. But in the end, it all felt like set-up. Corsair’s dead. Xavier’s all “mental” again. He gets saved because Darwin realizes that the M’Kraan Crystal doesn’t “want” them. It takes like 4 or 5 panels. Now, maybe it’s me, but if you’re going to all the trouble of throwing someone into the M’Kraan Crystal, how about spending some time there. So now Xavier is all fixed up. And some of the X-Men/Starjammers are going to take another whack at Vulcan.

Moon Knight #10 – I think I enjoyed this one the most of the three, if only for the conversation between MK and Punisher. Frank is picking off people from a rooftop, and MK is saying they could stop them without killing them. They also talk about Frank killing MK’s brother. (I’m not big on MK’s history, so I don’t know anything about this, but people who do might like the continuity.) They comment a little on Civil War and about how neither side really wants them. The rest of the story is about MK tracking down Midnight and enlisting the aid of the guy in the red sunglasses (don’t know his name either, sorry) which ends up involving some fun nastiness on both of their parts.

Okay, Here’s what I got today:

X-Men #199
Fantastic Four # 546
Captain America # 26

I honestly can’t wade through Bachalo’s art to give an early review but as for the other ones:

Fantastic Four #546 –I think of all the “alternative FFs” they’ve come up with in the past, I like this one the most. So, long story short, T’Challa and Michael head back to Wakanda while Ben, Johnny, Ororo, and Gravity attempt to keep Epoch from becoming an appetizer. BP comes back with two magic frogs (I know, it sounds completely ******ed, but it works somehow) that teleport them there, along with a “Galactus contingency device” which turns out to be a copy of the device that Doom used to steal the Surfers powers, which BP proceeds to do, give the harness to Johnny (to kick Stardust’s behind) and then kick the crap out of the less cosmically powered SS. Gravity ends the whole situation by “feeding” Galactus, depleting him of his power, returning him to his former power level (and life. An extra added bonus.) And in the meantime, Reed and Sue are on planet Disgusto (make that Moon Disgusto) philosophizing.

Captain America #26 -Basically, it’s an all issue wake for Cap, with the legit heroes, non-legit (New Avengers), and Winter Soldier. Falcon seems to have access to all camps, so it’s through his eyes. (And everyone seems to have loved his speech, a running joke). Not much happens, just wake type stuff. A little discussion amongst Red Skull, Faust, and Arnim Zola, but nothing all that revealing (other than name-dropping a meeting with the Secretary of the Treasury) And then at the end Bucky kicks a bunch of redneck tail, and decides it would feel just as good doing it to Stark. Except that he wants to kill him. Notice that the name of the Chapter is “How it Begins.” Very Ominous.

Was Captain America #26 good? I'm trying to remain "spoilerless".

Yeah. Not as good as it has been lately, but still up to standard.

Daredevil #97 $2.99
New Excalibur #20 $2.99
Wolverine #54 $2.99

Got these three last night. I wasn't going to post any reviews, mostly because they're coming out today anyway. DD was good, plot moving forward, but nothing worth raving over. But what I wanted to get off my chest was this:

Wolverine #54 - This by far is the worst thing that I've ever seen Loeb do. I honestly cannot make heads or tails of this, well, tale. Is it a dream? Is it in Wolvie's mind? Do I really care anymore? If I weren't subscribed, I'd have definately dropped this by now. Maybe it's just that I don't give a crapola about Sabretooth, I don't know. But can someone who likes this try to explain to me why I should. (I won't yell. I promise) The only thing I liked about this was an opening (dream, of course) sequence with Cap back in WWII.

I've actually been digging Loeb's run on this book. Issue #51 was a little slow, but it's picked up since then. I think I'm literally the only person on these boards that's been enjoying this story.

If you were trying to get someone to pick up these issues, how would you sell them on it? Maybe that will jumpstart me.

Um...Well, at first the art was distracting. It has since grown on me, and doesn't bother me at all.

I think it's just an interesting mystery. I mean, Logan's having dreams of ancient Rome. To me, that's pretty cool. How ****ing old is he? Couple that with the fact that according to Roman mythology, the city was founded by two brothers (Romulus and Remus) who were raised by a wolf. And there seems to be something going on with Marvel's more feral characters.

I like the possibility that Logan's past might be tied to ancient history, and that he may be one of the humans T'Challa hypothesized, that has evolved from canines instead of primates.

Plus, Loeb writes a hell of a Black Panther, so that's a plus. I really like his characterization of Logan. He seems more well rounded under Loeb's pen.

This is a story where I cannot predict the ending, and that's fun for me.
