Rise of the Silver Surfer Official: Fantastic Four 2 Novelization Discussion MAJOR SPOILERS!

no......I don't think they would do that.....

Galactus:

Spider-Man is actually right, I've just finished reading the novelization as well and I don't know where this whole Galactus "ships" idea came from... but, that's not in it.

Imagine the worst natural storm with tornados, heavy wind currents, possibly a dark purple cloud-like sky and you've got Galactus. It is truly a force to be wreckoned with.

Now personally, I loved this Galactus. I know many fans might be angry- but, honestly, I can't see the giant Galactus storming around the city or looking down from Earth on film. I just don't think it would translate that well. But, what they have come up with is very interesting and a great cinematical expression of a world being torn apart. So, what we do see is very good in my opinion.

I happen to agree and disaggree with Willie on the whole "world at stake threat not really overly present," while that's definitely the case during this huge finale. I highly disagree that that goes for the film as a whole because that finale scene- from what I saw in my head is VERY epic and really gives you the sense that everything's about to go to hell.

How does Silver Surfer get his name?

I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but I loved it... Johnny actually names him the Silver Surfer!

And when he comes back to report he saw the silver surfer, the reaction of the military and the rest of the Fantastic Four is really funny.

Any cool graphic gory scenes in this?

Oh hell yeah! I think the scene of Doom rearranging the General's composition will be very cool to see. Imagine Magneato in X2 vs. his guard. Only amp that up.

What was the final fight?

Okay good news and bad news... the Fantastic Four really don't fight as a team. This is Johnny's fight all the way.

In the first encounter he gets this ability to use and attain the others powers.

The finale sees him using all of the Fantastic Four powers against Doom while Reed and the Thing (for the most part) stay on the ground with a dying Susan Storm.

I noticed that after the whole fight sequence, which was awesome by the way and I now have mixed feelings about it. It was cool and a great concept- but there really isn't that much team activity going on in defeating Doom. It's all Johnny.

Now, just wondering to others who read it- how did you envision this? Is Johnny a rocky Johnny the whole way or only part of the way? I imagined a super Skrull type technique...

So Tempest believes that the "cloud" really IS Galactus, despite Willie saying earlier that it's totally not... hmmmm.

My one question is what's all this about a "love triangle"? Is Sue actually going to get interested or flirt with the Silver Surfer? Is he falling for Sue? Because that's lame on both counts, but ESPECIALLY the first one.

I found the novelization for FF 2 at borders on saturday. I have been reading it.. I like it very much.. should be fun.

Yeah it was a really good read in my opinion....now if they can get that on to the big screen, we will have a cool movie...

I'm going to be by a walmart today i'm gonna see if they have it in stock. Its not like i can buy it i have bo money.:csad: It doesn't hurt to look.

Well with me maybe it does.

Absolutely no love triangle at all. Not even the hint of one.

As for Galactus, I'm a little more nervous now than I was last week. I've been reading all the statements I can find from Tim Story, Ralph Winter, Tim Rothman, Ioan Gruffuld, etc., and trying to piece them together, and I can't get them to fit into one simple whole.

There is obviously intentional ambiguity and misdirection regarding this topic, and the question is: Are they mis-leading us because there's more than meets the eye, or are they mis-leading us because they don't want us to be disappointed?

I still think there is a real Galactus somewhere that may or may not be revealed in this film, but I'm less sure than I was before. One of the more interesting quotes is from Ralph Winter toward the end of the Empire magazine article. He seems to hint that Galactus will come to Earth in the third movie. Does anyone have a copy of that magazine? It's a very interesting quote.

That's stupid...

And who says Peter had to be the only person to invent the webfluid? He could in fact have gotten the formula or been inspired from somewhere else. He's simply the only one to use the fluid in the manner he does.

Wouldn't that be adding more to a story that could live without it?

I mean it can be fitted into the story but it would seem a bit out place.

In the end it all depends on the talent if they can make it work. :)

Besides it's not like it killed the enjoyment of the film.

This comment confuses me. You've just read in the Spidey 3 novel and we've seen in the movie clip how a gigantic Sandman works fine. He's powerful, frightening and pretty freakin' cool. Galactus as seen in the comics could easily work. It always puzzles me when comic fans who read the comicsand had no porblem with them then say how it wouldn't work on screen. ANYTHING can work on screen if presented with skill.

As for the rest of this it appears that as I expected, this movie (Like the last) becomes the Johnny show. With Jess tossed in as required sex object.

Unfortunate in that these folks really don't get the concept or the scope of the FF.

The last movie was a Johnny show?

And here i thought it was a Fantastic 3 show including guest appearances by Mr. Fantastic.

Who was the main thrust of every scene? Who got the jokes, (no matter how stupid) who was given the most face time? Every scene had to be capped by a comment from Johnny, no matter how pointless or vapid. The most elaborate discovery of powers scene was Johnny's. The biggest solo battle scene was Johnny's. Johnny was the unofficial spokesman for the team. He named the members of the team. He even got the pointless X-games scene just to show him off some more.

You have a point but I actually didn't see it that way.

The first film lacked alot but i didn't think it favored anyone.

I did feel it forgot about Reed and he was the one who suffered the most.

Those things you pointed out most where just Johnny being Johnny. *shrugs*.

Just my opinion though.

When was his solo battle btw? You actually mean the missle? That was a battle? I can't blame them for using his powers a little more than the others it's fun to look at.

He was definitely the cool factor, just like the cool factor for this movie is the SS.....

Hmmmm....perhaps I should pick the novelization up.

That is so clever.
I'm writin' that down right now.

Anybody got a piece of paper?

No, no paper here. However I have a strong suspicion we will be reminded over and over by some of how much the first movie sucked.

Curiously I find that it is one of those films I can watch every 3-6 months or so, along with Blade 1 and 2, Xmen 2 and 3 and now possibly Ghost Rider, have not seen DD directo's cut yet. Now what does that say about me.

I like sucky movies or is it that it worked for me. They were the FF in essence.

Thankfully many others loved it enough to see it at the theater and I get to see FF2.

It is like 300 was great, probably better than TMNT but I loved the latter as well. Left me feeling warm and fuzzy. That scene with Leo and Raph fighting, made me think of tough days when i was growoing up, I had a little brother who would get me in so much trouble sometimes but no body had better touch my brother, except mom hahahah.

Man the beatings I took for my bro when we first went to a new primary school, lol it seemed like everybody there but us had 2-3 cousins :csad: who believed in fighting together.

So yeah i liked FF1 even though I acknowlege that it had several flaws.

Different Strokes for Different folks i guess.

Finished reading the novel last night, thought it was a very fun read. Reed is more of a leader and Sue's characer is handled better imo. Looking forward to her scenes with the Silver Surfer.

Just trying to get more opinions from those who have finished the novelization (as I finished it too), but what did you think about Doom? Did you think he was vastly improved, more or less the same, or worse?

Thanks!

I think he is better this time around, but he still needs work IMO. He's getting set up in the castle/mansion, like that he's getting a labatory. The fights with him on the Surfer's board sounded pretty cool in the book. Hopefully it will be translated well on screen, in addition to the scene where he turns General Hager's physical structre inside out.

Thank you Jasmine for the feedback....

This goes out to anyone who has read the novelization...do you think Doom has been improved for the better, the same, or the worse?

My opinion is this:

I think Doom has been improved immensely. Seeing Doom in Castle Doom made me smile, the descriptions of the castle/village made me a happy fanboy. Also, Doom's "resurrection" was pretty sweet. His dialogue sound a lot better but wish he still talked in the third person at least once and hope that he calls Reed by his last name "RICHARDS!" His confrontation with the Surfer in Greenland sounded cool as hell and then of course the finale sounds like it is full blown Doom all the way (so long as that armor is on him).

Well, unfortunately there are still a couple of "oh god" lines from Doom that almost rival "marco polo"....one in particular is about a barbque...and the SS.....just not real funny.....and I'm afraid just from the description that we are getting another sarcastic, "happy" sounding Doom.....no "RIIIIIICCCHHHHARDS" to help counteract that feeling....
