Official Flash Thread!!!

Guys, I'm not reading this serie. Partly due to the New 52 concept, partly due to the fact I've been a Wally West lover who can't go beyond that, and partly due to the *****ing changes with the Rogues. But still, is this serie good? I have the feeling they are just making big stuff of small stories, or is there a real character developpement?
Apart from the amazing art, is the serie good?

It's one of the best ongoings today and that's not hyperbole. I was a Wally West fan too and only knew Barry from silver age and bronze age reprints & the mentions he got in Wally's book. However this is a way better Barry Allen Flash series than the bleak and depressing one Johns was writing before Flashpoint.

Despite the changes in his history Barry is back to being an optimistic hero with a sense of fun and adventure again like he was in his prime. People just need learn to get over their stubbornness and learn to give what is out there a shot and see for themselves instead of dismissing it because it's not what they're used to. They might end up being really surprised in the end.

Yeah apart from the art being the best in the industry he stories have been fun and it features a hero being a hero. Great book and great Direction as well. Plus did I mention the art?!

Despite the often uneven writing, Flash remains one of the better books on the shelf by virtue of being fresh and, of course, having the best visual storytelling in the industry, period.

On an unrelated note, can anyone think off hand what the final appearance of Wally West was? I'm sure I have it, I just don't have access to the bulk of my collection to go back and find what book it was actually in or what it was. I'm sure it was complete crap (Wally was in nothing but cameos for his final two years), I'm just curious what it was exactly. Honestly, I'd like to calibrate my rage on the matter.

Still surprised that, after writing him for so long, Johns didn't even write a farewell for the character (or any other character for that matter; the only person who got any sort of closure in Flashpoint was Barry, by virtue of being the only pre-Flashpoint character featured in the damn story). Still stings, even two years later.

Didn't Wally get killed in the Cold Flashpoint mini?

And shouldn't Barry remember the other preN52 universe if he's the only one that could remember it when he was in the Flashpoint U?

My head hurts...

Didn't Wally get killed in the Cold Flashpoint mini?
Yes. But actual Wally last appeared in one of the last couple Johns-penned Flash issues. I think Barry, Wally, and Bart were chasing down Hot Pursuit together.

And I don't think Johns knew DiDio would block Wally like he did or for as long as he did. Johns even wanted to give Wally a back-up in his Flash book.

And shouldn't Barry remember the other preN52 universe if he's the only one that could remember it when he was in the Flashpoint U?

Barry slowly lost his memories of the old universe during Flashpoint. The only evidence he had of the Flashpoint universe were Thomas Wayne's note and the memories of his Mother, which were supposed to be gifts from something (maybe Pandora?) So I don't see why he'd keep memories of an old universe he already lost in a universe he'd already almost completely forgot.

I don't think Wally actually showed up in Johns' Flash series other than the covers.

Can't have done anything important then, he was probably chasing the wasps away :o

He did appear at least once to my recollection in Johns' Flash. And yeah--supposedly the Wally back-up for said title was not only planned, but actually produced. I remember reading that it's sitting in a drawer somewhere because Dan-****ing-Didio decided Barry needed the spotlight.

Wally showed up in 2 issues of that series. In one panel in issue 9 and in a scene at Barry's house in issue 11. Neither of those appearances were in costume.

I just finished reading the most recent trade. Of the Nu52 stuff I've read so far, this is easily my favorite.

Crap news: Manupal and Buccalleto are leaving the book for an unannounced DC title.

Wow, this thread is quite dead.

Just stopping in to say I found Flash 0, 2-23, and Annuals 1-2 at my local Half Priced Books. I've started reading them and am about to start the Reverse Flash story and have really enjoyed them. I don't know if I'm going to continue with new issues yet or not, but so far I'm I'm pressed. This is honestly my first real attempt at reading Flash. I read bits and pieces of things since Flash Rebirth, but nothing consistent. I wanted to try the book when it relaunched in the New52 but couldn't afford it. At $1.49 each, this was my shot. I'll let you know what I think once I'm caught up (and by caught up I mean after I buy at least issue 24 to finish out this Reverse Flash story. I'm hoping my shop still has some of the standard editions of the Reverse Flash villains month story. We'll see Wednesday.

It's a great book: incredible art that feels unique and totally fits the tone of the story and an optimistic hero with a real sense of fun.

Post Flashpoint was a good point to drop DC titles in general
But I got Flash issues, and read issues 0 & 1, it entertained

I think you quoted the wrong person, I didn't whine about any title or anything
My reason to drop titles is just to make it easier to look back, the less comics I have the easier it is to read them again, and Flashpoint was a solid place to help with that decision

Made the decision back in 2010 I think, saw a comment made by someone reading maybe 30+ titles a month, and said he only passed through the issue once, I collected much less than he did/does, but I know I don't want to keep the issue a one time deal only

So I never got back to this. I did manage to get completely caught up and have loved every second of it (save the Zero Year tie-in... which was pure filter). I'm sad to see this creative team leave but will definitely be giving whoever is coming up next a shot. I knew I'd like Flash if I gave him a chance. Now if only I could find issue 1.

I was in kids the same boat you are. Got all the back issues ordered at y comic shop and when #1 showed up they wanted 10$ for it just cuz it was a first edition. Idgaf if its a first edition I'm trying to read it and then throw it in my collection and whenever I feel the need to go back through them I can. So now I have the whole damn run except #1. So damn frustrating

That's honestly how the general "non Flash die hard" public feels about the character too.

Flash = "funny guy who runs fast" to them. And truthfully, in every incarnation, that's who he has been to one extent or another. A sort of "everyman".
I only saw a comedic Flash in the Justice League cartoon when he's with the team
The only Justice League run I read thus far is the one by Mark Waid, and Wally is a serious character there
Plastic Man was the group's comedian

I never really saw Flash as a comedic character. I saw him as one of the noble good guys that you could always count on to do the right thing...an alternate beacon of hope alongside Superman. I don't know if that was really accurate, but that's how I saw the character having never really read anything with him in it save an event here and there.

To me Flash is an optimistic character, very brave and heroic. He's also rather smart and creative. Also, he's fast.

Reading Future's End right now.
The idea of future Flash sounded stupid since his arc started, decided to stop thinking about the logic, couldn't help it.
It's an ok story, when I'm not over thinking it.
