Sequels Official Gambit Casting/Speculation Thread [merged-6]

Eh, he's not really special-looking enough. His looks don't hurt like you said, but there's nothing in his looks to make him stand out from the average Abercrombie & Fitch model, and I don't want Gambit looking like an Abercrombie & Fitch model :wow:

And yet you want Ian Somerhalder????

ian somerhalders looks aren't average a&f

ya well ian is pretty much 'a pretty boy' though

*nods*Type casting is bad most of the time!!

I have to say...I don't really know Dave Annable, only heard of him a bit vaguely, but I like the smirk on the picture above; it does make me think of Gambit!;)

He doesn't have to be. As Bamfer said, type casting is very bad. :cwink:
what do you mean he doesnt have to be? he just is, theres no way to get rid of that. its just what ian looks like

Exactly. Maybe Ian would have the talent to play the character as a badass anti-hero, maybe he wouldn't, but one thing is certain. Unless prosthetics or a mask is used, any character played by Ian Somerhalder is going to be really pretty.

Dave Annable is interesting, but what I see in him is a good guy face, and Gambit should be more ambiguous.

He's gonna be sexy, which Gambit should be. He's "pretty" because he's so groomed, but I want Gambit to be kind of unkempt. I want him to look like he lives on the streets. Even Ian Somerhalder wouldn't look "pretty" living on the streets. :oldrazz: Cut out the barber and throw in some attitude, and I think he could pull off the look.

He's too short :o
Height isn't that important. Height was all over the map in the movies. Logan, Jean, and Storm were tall; Scott and Rogue were short. I know that Logan's supposed to be short and Scott's supposed to be tall (at least, taller than Marsden). I don't remember which girl is the wrong height, but I know that at least one of them is. So, Gambit can be a little short, too. :cwink: I don't like tall guys, anyway. :oldrazz:

I think it would be interesting to have that contrast. A guy with a "good guy face" behaving like a bad guy or at least really shady. Gambit shouldn't be a clean cut pretty boy but he shouldn't look like a typical bad guy either. He should look like someone you want to trust and believe.

I don't like tall guys, anyway.

You're probably the only woman on the planet that doesn't like tall guys, ToriL.

Think so? Most of the girls I know like shorter guys.

Maybe it's a New England thing.

Really?O.oMost of the girls here prefer guys that are taller than them.:word:

I don't think height should be a criterion for whoever plays Gambit, though;they made Logan really tall, after all, and Storm shorter-and we know she's tall in the comics!

Well, I don't know anybody who likes guys shorter than they are; but most girls are around 5'5", and like their men to be under 5'11" where I come from. ;)

EDIT: And yeah, height shouldn't be a consideration. The goal should be to find the best guy for the job, and you can't get everything. Sometimes, the right height has to be sacrificed for other qualities that are more important.

Pick a guy, pick any guy (not my list by the way, but still a good choices, sorry for the funked up setting :csad: ):Here's my list of who should be considered to play Gambit:

casting1.jpg
NAME: Ian Somerhalder
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1978
HOME STATE: Louisiana, USA
CREDITS:
Lost; Smallville

NOTE: Best known for his role as "Boone" on LOST, Ian does undeniably resemble the Ragin' Cajun and has some French heritage. He's already a favourite amongst some Gambit fans.
SUPERHERO CONNECTION: He had a recurring guest role on Smallville.
B. ST. RATING: He has the look, the right age and the origins--what's more to ask for?

NAME: Santiago Cabrera
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1978
HOME TOWN: Santiago, Chile
CREDITS:
Heroes; Empire

NOTE: Don't let the name fool you, he definitely resembles the Cajun (watch Heroes and you'll see what I mean) and happens to be fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. He's also an athlete.
SUPERHERO CONNECTION: A relative unknown, Santiago plays Issac Mendez on Heroes, who has the power of precognition. His powers are quasi-identical to Irene "Destiny" Adler.
B. ST RATING: So let's see: he looks like Gambit, is an athlete, speaks fluent French and stars in a show called Heroes. Need I say more?

NAME: Kevin Zegers
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1984
HOME PROVINCE: Ontario, Canada
CREDITS:
Transamerica; Zoom

NOTE: While still a relative unknown, Kevin impressed critics with his role in Transamerica. While he's the youngest of all listed here, he definitely looks the part.

SUPERHERO CONNECTION: He stars in the kid-friendly superhero flick/x-men rip-off "Zoom". Ironically, he has red eyes in the film.
B. ST. RATING: He's definitely got the look...

NAME: Josh Holloway
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1969
HOME STATE: Georgia, USA
CREDITS:
Lost

NOTE: While there were reports that Josh was offered the part of Gambit (but turned it down), X3 writers Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn have both stated that he is too old for the role (see below).
B. ST. RATING: He definitely has the look--but he may be too old for the role.

NAME: Matthew Bomer
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1977
HOME STATE: Texas, USA
CREDITS: Traveller; Tru Calling
NOTE: Best known as "Jay" on Traveller, Bomer’s name has been thrown around fan sites as a possible candidate for Gambit. One look at this guy and it’s easy to know why.
SUPERHERO CONNECTION: When Brett Ratner was set to direct the revamped Superman film, Bomer was his first choice. However, when Bryan Singer took over, he cast Brandon Routh as Supes and made the film a sequel.
B. ST. RATING: If he’d get cast as the Cajun, I certainly wouldn’t complain…

NAME: Martin Henderson
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1974
HOME CITY: Auckland, New Zealand
CREDITS:

The Ring; Torque
NOTE: Martin's name has been thrown around fan forums because of his obvious resemblance to the Cajun.
B. ST. RATING: After watching "The Ring", I was a believer--but is he too old...?

I'm adding another name to this list: Rodrigo Santoro (he played Paulo on LOST)--mostly because I saw these two fan made (and entirely fake) X4 trailers: (click here) and (here). Easily the best X4 trailers on YouTube.

Professional Picks:

Here are a few "professional" picks I've come across:

NAME: Channing Tatum
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1980
HOME STATE: Alabama
CREDITS: Coach Carter; She's the Man; Step Up
NOTE: Channing actually auditioned for the X3 Gambit cameo that was ultimately cut out of the script (see below).
B. ST. RATING: Tatum's acting talents have been questioned...

NAME: Ryan Gosling
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1980
HOME PROVINCE: Ontario, Canada
CREDITS: The Notebook; Murder by Numbers
NOTE: X3 screenwriter
Simon Kinberg
named Ryan as one of his personal picks for Gambit.

NAME: Heath Ledger
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1979
HOME COUNTRY: Australia
CREDITS: The Brothers Grim; Brokeback Mountain; A Knight's Tale
NOTE: A bonafide movie star, Heath is a favourite of both X3 writer
Simon Kinberg and former GAMBIT writer John Layman
.
SUPERHERO CONNECTION: He plays the Joker in the The Dark Knight.

NAME: Ryan Reynolds
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1976
HOME PROVINCE: British Columbia, Canada
CREDITS: Blade Trinity; The Amityville Horror; National Lampoon's Van Wilder
NOTE: Ryan is another
Simon Kinberg
favourite.
SUPERHERO CONNECTION: He was once rumoured as being in the running for Flash in a film of the same name.

Gambit has to be a new face, definetly. An already known face from the Tv wouldn't be as great, in my opinion.

I agree to some extent. I don't want anybody really famous. No stars. I wouldn't want Johnny Depp or even Josh Holloway. Ian Somerhalder is the perfect "level" of star: he had a recurring role on a hit show (Lost), and there's a decent chance that people will remember the face, but he's not somebody everyone will recognize, and fewer will know his name.

One big thing that Holloway going for him is that, unlike most of the other generic prettyboys, he actually has the chops and the style to play a slick southern conman. His age is also a good thing; it keeps Marvel and Fox from going with a stupid tenniebopper love-triangle with Rogue and Iceman, which means he might actually get to be his own character for the first time in well over a decade(in any media).

No, he really doesn't

No offense, I love Gambit, but the most interesting thing about him is his romance with Rogue, because of both their pasts and how they deal with it.

Mereso than anyone else on that list. If we expand it to others, then Dennis Quaid already nailed it back in 1987 with The Big Easy. They could just splice in snippets of that and get the job done.

Part of the reason I have no love for Gambit anymore is that romance. It simply ruined the character (Rogue too, but to a lesser extent.)

In case you haven't noticed, the they're not teenagers anymore. The X-kids are all growed up now. ;) There should be some sort of love angle in the movie, although I agree that it shouldn't be the main story.
