Sequels Official Gambit Casting/Speculation Thread [merged-6]

He also doesn't fit the part, role-wise. Being the rough and tough guy doesn't fit Buscemi.

Bad example.

ahhh, but a good actor can't undertake different characters?

and he plays a bad guy in fargo anyways.

Not that they can't, but if it's so far out of their forte, they more than likely won't suit the role.

Take Michael Clarke Duncan, for example. He's known for poprtraying intimidating and almost evil-type characters. Given his size and build, he'd fit The Beast perfectly, but only physically. Given his acting forte, not that he can't, but more that he's not the best for the role.

Kelsey Grammer, on the other hand... He's not notable for being a very large guy, but he nailed Beast's intellectual side, and even had the added bonus of having a voice sounding reminiscent to the voice of the cartoon incarnations of Beast.

but buscemi's such a good actor that it wouldn't be out of his range, however he still wouldn't be believable because he doesn't look like gambit.

Sure, he's a good actor, but you can still be a good actor and have roles that aren't in your forte.

Look at Adam Sandler, a close friend of Buscemi's. He's an awesome and hilarious actor, but you couldn't pit him as Wolverine and pull it off. That's just not what he does.

see what you mean but you've still yet to properly comment on the point i was getting at, but whatever. we're not gonna see eye to eye on this no matter what so let's leave it at that.

Not Johnny Depp. He's already part of a screamingly popular franchise. You need a good actor who is also tall, dark, and handsome. These two things must be what the actor needs. Most of the men in the X-films were 6'0" plus, including Kelsey Grammar. I have a degree in theatre and studied at American Conservatory Theatre in the Summer Training Congress. And I will be spending next year in London at Drama Studio London, where Forrest Whitaker attended. Just demonstrating my credentials.

You have to have the essence down. Michael Keaton didn't scream Batman, but he was perfect, as is Christian Bale. He had the essence down and his looks weren't too far off the mark. Of course I've only read X-Men. There was also the combination of good writing. Rogue, for example since I love her as much as Gambit, didn't work in the film for me because of a barely accurate portrayal of her as fragile and pathetic and having the wrong actress. If they did the same inaccurate thing with Gambit, I would be heartbroken.

I meant no offense, my good man. I know it was a joke.

Was the last sentence aimed at me?

Because I wasn't offended...

I'm completely with you on the second paragraph, but I was mainly referring to the fact that many throughout the post have only said, "Hey, this guy looks like Gambit, cast him!"

I was simply saying that it doesn't work this way... I in now way think I resemble Gambit, and [like I said in another post] do not necessarily think I'm a perfect fit for the role, looks aside. My, "Vote me in!" was a joke.

Yes, the last sentence was aimed at you. I'm glad you weren't offended.:yay:

There is certainly more to choosing an actor than looks alone, though I have mentioned in previous posts about the actor also needing to be good and have the essence down.

What's your top pick?

Uh... Willem Dafoe :).

Not really.

I haven't seen anyone who I think can nail the part, to be honest.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been involved with theatre [and how old are you, if you don't mind me asking]? Like, what kind of shows have you done and such? I figured I'd meet more actors/actresses on here, but you're the first I've come across.

Norman Reedus.

It was said in the first page of this speculation and I have to agree.

I'm 25 and I started my formal acting training in college. I didn't actually go out and do theatre until after I graduated, almost three years ago. I have been going to the theatre for almost my entire life and have taken many classes besides my formal training. I studied ballet and other dance for 14 years and performed in community ballet productions and recitals. I've done musicals, a straight play, and am currently in a Shakespeare production. I wrote, directed, and starred in my own senior thesis, which was a musical theatre revue. I have written a play that is a feminist satire of super heroes called The Go Girls, mainly inspired by the X-Men though the play's its own thing. I wrote the play for myself to star in. There is only one guy part and he's based a little bit on Gambit.

I haven't acted professionally yet but I will soon I'm sure after I finish the acting program in London.

It is so interesting that you haven't met any other actors/actresses. I always thought X-Men the Musical would be a fun idea. I should do a thread about it. I already have a song for Gambit and Rogue.:yay:

how about this guy?
gabriel-aubry-h01r.jpg

Looks like Gambit, he doest look that old, and is really tall (he looks over 6ft).

and gambit should always have a hairy chest :o

When I saw Halle's boyfriend I thought he has the look, definetly. Gambit should look a bit like him, more or less, maybe not so tall... you know, he and Anna...

No! what are you talking about??

I was meaning they as a couple, he would be much taller than her.
