Right. Although I'd say trying to sounding American for a Brit is a hell of alot easier in likelihood than anyone including American's sounding authentically cajun.

You probably had American tv growing up and certainly exposure to American's in different forms of media. Whether news or movies or whatever.

Cajun is just peculiar and not all that well heard outside of Acadiana

He speaks with a standard generic American accent, which is the ideal short of actually casting someone from the Acadiana region of Louisiana, which is unlikely to ever happen. Ruling someone out because they're from Minnesota is as foolish as you can get.

His voice itself. The natural sound of it is right for the part. It's deep with the right texture. If I had to guess I'd say he probably smokes. It's got that crispness to it. You'll find for some reason that smokers make better impressionists and immatators of other voices than non smokers. There are ranges they can hit that for some reason are impossible for others.

When did I say that I was ruling him out because he was from Minnesota? Wait a sec... I didnt! I said because he was from MN, he probably would not have a Cajun Accent. I'm Cajun, born and raised in New Orleans ,moved to California three years ago. So much of Gambits character relies on his accent and I dont think Garret Hedlund can do that. Nothing he has done so far in his career have proven that he can. Not saying yay or nay to him, just posting my opinion. I need more evidence before I can say that he is a good choice.

I haven't even read a tenth of this thread, so I don't know if it's been mentioned, but why not hire a novice actor with a natural cajun accent and look. Why does it have to be a known actor?

because they want to an actor who can carry a movie in a few years, in the 3rd spinoff it seems. perhaps a x-generation movie or a gambit spinoff

lol i go phrases, and i had one where i wanted to be a rockstar.

and i love this guys voice, its rough. and he said in an interview its because he smokes 20 cigarettes a day.

i thought i should try it, but i decided not to, wihich was of course the best choice.

Why don't we just cast Gambit on looks alone and then have the old guy from "The Waterboy" do a voice-over for the movie.

Who's to say he can't ?

One natural component I think he has that others don't is his natural voice and intense but laid back personality being the perfect fit for the character. And he's a great actor with a ton of presense. Probably why he's found so many great jobs so quickly.

These arguments could be put to Hugh Jackman before X-1 to, not enough experience, australian, no canadian accent, little experience, a novice. But I bet you'd not want anyone else playing him now. I can picture that guy as Gambit, and he sure as hell has the looks/height for it. And seems to pick up alot of work, which mean he has something acting wise. And that picture I manip'd was from 2004. So he'd be a little more mature since then. As for the cajun accent, I expect them to make it very light, like the Gambit from Ultimate X-men. When he returned later after his 2 parter intro his accent was nearly neutralized. He'll have a feint cajun accent, with perhaps some of the language here and there.
Remember other cast members, none of them have their accents, no Aussie accent for Pyro, no African accent for Storm. The only one keeping the accent is Rogue. Colossus isn't even Russian, let alone a Russian accent. Kurt is another exception. It'll be very unlikely they'd go with a thick Cajun accent for mainstream audience.

Avi was vague about this.All he said was "a movie 2 or 3 yrs after".Sure this could be the 3rd spinoff rumored or a Gambit spinoff.But hey,depending on the success of X3,X4 would be hard not to do if it does really well.Let's not all rule out an X4 yet my fellow x-fans.

Avi Arad's comment on Gambit doesn't make any sense. To me, there were a lot of "What if's" in his statement.

At this point and time, I do believe that X3 will be the last X movie....until X4 gets officially announced. And that all depends on the finacial and critical sucess of this movie. If this movie failed, then the spin-offs will be in question. And then X4 would be question as well.

I hope that this movie is a sucess, but I just want the filmmakers to acknowledge Gamibt, in one form or another (no, that name 'cameo' in X2 doesn't count)

They were basing it off old news. Things may have changed in the interim.
