). I read an interview of Santoro in CBR about his role as Xerxes in the movie "300" and i was impressed by what he tells about the character he was offered to portrayI guess i can imagine what you want to tell me, but I'm not quit sure...hes bound to be a movie so..i guess it sux to be you lol

I never said something like that. You're letting ONE character affect you in such a way? And you call us fanatics.
Good gosh...i don't know where to start...^^
You bring up everything i hate about him as an argument to love him.
![]()
He is a criminal...he is a nosewise stubborn motormouth...a none teamplayer doing "his thing"...he don't respect people.
He has nothing in common with Cable....Cable IS an authority fiugure.
His love for Rogue is pathetic.
He is NOT the only Ex-criminal-superhero...switching sides is a common motive in comicwriting.
(Even Archangel served Apocalypse.)
In most storarcs he could have been replaced by Wolverine who shares his positive traits.
I am glad that he is the only hero wearing a trenchcoat regulary, because it looks...odd at best.
The playcard-throwing motive has come up with some other characters before, for example Bulseye.
And all that Cajun-talk...what's a Cajun anyway?!![]()
I hope somebody else give it another try to explain.

PS:
Still...please no offense...I'm really interested in how someone can love that character at all.
t: ) So? Does that make him less interesting because he's not the only one? And so it is quit the right place to get an answer to my question.^^But this is the Gambit Casting thread and most people posting here really do want Gambit in the movie.
These were some arguments of emmymae I reacted to, not mine. You say he has nothing in common with Cable. Does a character have to have something in common with Cable to be interesting? I sure don't think so.
No he is not the only ex criminal superhero. So? Does that make him less interesting because he's not the only one?
...
The playcards are symbolic for Gambit. He lives life like a gambler and he's a heck of a card player.

And so it is quit the right place to get an answer to my question.^^
Here I find people who might know things about him that I missed.
I'm not trying to do a flame war with you all.
I'm curious about what makes this (<negative attitude here>) character so successful.

"I must confess, infuriating and arrogant as Gambit can be... those eyes, that grin, the body-- it takes a girls breath away."
one's always on me about tellin' th' truth -- but it never works both ways. Never stops people from keeping secrets from me... All I've ever done since joining the X-Men is everythin' I've been asked to do-- an' I've done them well! You think the least I could get is a pat on the back... but the least I got was gettin' left to die in a frozen wasteland...
Yep...I had never heard of an ethnic group called Cajun before this thread.^^I could give you quite a few reasons why I personally like him, such as being a cultural icon for an ethnic group that is largely overlooked. Even though the few references to Cajuns tend to be exagerrated stereotypes, they are still references to a dying people.
They are not that similar as a character, but as a storytellingtool to the writer....
But I really don't get when people compare him to Wolverine. It's like ccomparing Gorgonzola cheese to Parmesan cheese. They are completely different, even though they are cheese. Yes, Gambit is a loner, Logan is a loner, so what?
...
I don't see how they are similar.
