World Official Goblin Appreciation Thread - Part 1

^^ I remember that. Probably my favorite Goblin image. Well, one of them, atleast.

Definitely a talented artist if they can make the original costume look intimidating.

I still love this video.

You know, I never understood why Green Goblin wasn't ever really marketed as Spidey's #1 Villian. Venom may be my favorite Vilian, but when it comes to the "Greatest" Villian, it's the Green Goblin hands down, IMO.

I definitely agree with this. It's sad IMO how popular Venom is compared to Green Goblin when there's so much more depth and history to Goblin.

Remember, Goblin was out of the picture for two decades and in that time Venom was the most popular Spider-Villain. So its understandable that many people favor Brock. (Even if they do only like him for the symbiotes never ending powers and not for any real depth of character.) I wish I had a scan, but I remember an advertisement from 1997 that said "The Green Goblin isnt Spider-Man's greatest enemy. Its Norman Osborn." So they have kind of promoted Gobby as the #1 enemy.

I'm going through some serious Goblin withdrawal. :csad:

I gatta say...I'm just not a fan of Romita Jr's Goblin...or art in general. Looks rather...bland, in my opinion.

I really disagree, but to each his own. Romita Jr.'s Goblin remains one of my favorites along with John Romita Sr.'s, Sal Buscema's, and Steve Ditko's.

John's Goblin can be hit or miss. He nailed it in Revelations but wasnt quite up to par in the one where Norman tries to make Peter his heir.

Curse you Marvel. You stop writing stories in ASM that I have to read but put characters that I need to follow in ASG. :argh:

I think some of his best work on the Goblin is actually very recent in New Ways To Die, though, his 90's work is pretty much on par, IMO. His art seems to evolve over time.

I will buy anything featuring Phil's Hobgoblin! Bring it on!

First of all. I love this thread. I can't wait till we see good ol Gobby back in the comics, but I am enjoying the story that Norman has had over the years.

You know, I never understood why Green Goblin wasn't ever really marketed as Spidey's #1 Villian.

You don't think he was? I was always under the impression that they were marketing Green Goblin as Spidey's #1 villain. In all the reincarnations of Spidey, the Osborn family is always a major theme. Who, in your opinion, was marketed as Spidey's main foe?

Well, the obvious answer going around by people who odn't read comics is that Venom is th best Villian, which, isn't true. Favorite Villian? Yeah. greatest enemy? No. If those people actually read the comics they would understand this.

As for marketing, well, he's been on numerous posters and in lots of video games as the main Villian.

Yeah, I definitely get what you mean by that. Venom is typically marketed as Spidey's archenemy in recent times. Although, I've noticed the rest of Spidey's classic rogues getting some limelight in that respect recently.

^^ That's awesome!

Btw, anybody still reading Osborn? That book is just brilliant overall, IMO. There's one issue left, and I just love Norman's plans overall. In the latest issue, his other side sort of came out. It's obvious Norman is a bit looney.

Its been meh for me. Its always good to see Norman but there is no Spider-Man and no Goblin involved. Plus I dont care for the other characters. But at least Norm is on his way to busting out and that is always a good thing.

Here's a Green Goblin drawing by me that I just colored.
