There's one awesome thing about WB/DC's new strategy. Since they're going way darker with the characters; hopefully they can bring the grittiness of Mike Grell's run on Green Arrow onto the big screen:

I hated his character (Ackles) on Smallville and figured he was badly written anyway. I'm glad Ackles was given a second chance with Supernatural. I can actually see him as a Flash but think he's better for Green Arrow. I'm trying to find good clips but, my god, youtube is nothing but fangirl music videos now.

When I read all the talk about going in a darker, more realistic tone, the first thing I thought of was how much this would help Green Arrow. When done right, GA is darker than Batman, IMHO!.

And, maybe not with Supermax, I believe GA can be done right and on a moderate budget. Hell, I've always entertained the idea that GA would be a gritty, ass kicking series on HBO or Showtime, if Warner would license it out. It's right up there f-ing alley.

I do believe the amount of money WB is willing to put into a GA movie will determine who is cast. My choice is and always will be Ben McKenzie, but if they put alot of money into it, then they should and probably will go with a big name to make sure the budget is made back.

The question is, how do you all want to see Oliver Queen portrayed when he is not the Green Arrow, when he is on his spare time?

Viggo Mortenson would make a great Green Arrow.

I think Viggo is about as young as I am willing to go. I like GA older. I really dont get the love for all these young guys. Ackles appears far too often on the boards in different suggestions. (although ive suggested him myself for Cannonball in Xmen)

Then I take it back. Thomas Haden Church (48) is as young as I'd go. Viggos a little older then I thought but not that off. Like I said, I like GA characterized older.

My number 1 choice being Denis Leary (51)

Funny, cause 45 is prolly the oldest I'd go, lol. I'm not a GA reader, but I did read the semi-recent retelling of his origin. Seems like Oliver is around the same age Tony Stark is. Depending on the story they plan to tell, I still think they need to keep a "franchise" in mind. 50s is really pushing it.

Yeah but the guy does have two fully grown sons (only one of them biological but it's still enough) so he actually is really old.

In the comics they found excuses to make him and Hal look like they're in their early 30s though. Just doubt those same excuses would work in a movie.

People keep thinking Green Arrow's movie will be an origin movie I guess. If that's the case I'm all for Ackles. If not then Leary, Brolin, or McConoughey.

YEa i remember reading supermax got shelved for the time being. And as for GL i dont see any problems with the production we got scripts in, got various crew in, director/producers on board and we know they have been testing for leads for awhile. I would only say film is in major trouble if there is no official word on leads by end of summer since they would likely need to be selected by end of july so they can start training/costume testing/etc...... and what not. IF there is no official start date in nov then there is more to worry about i say. Hopefully wb isnt stupid enough to let gl pass through there fingers.

Although he said that he doesnt get superhero films or something like that. Hopefully he would see GA as more than just a summer blockbuster flick if he was under the studio's radar

Denis Leary would be fantastic as Green Arrow. Im sick of the baby faced superheroes. Whenever GA is actually talking with other people he always comes off as the grumpy old guy.
