I don't know what the whole story was, but his girlfriend was an ANTM contestant and she told her side pretty exstensively on her blog. But the charges were dropped, so who knows what happened really.

yeah, i remember that chick from ANTM. my wife's a big fan of the show and she mentioned how that chick dated a guy from the shins. interesting....

Natasha Bedingfield introduced me to the awesomeness that is Citizen Cope last night.

Thank you, Natasha!

Brick
At the Drive-In are an amazing band.
Fugazi? It's Ian MacKaye!!! is there anything he's done that isn't great?? (minor threat, egg hunt, skewbald, embrace, fugazi? yep..all great!!)

If we're going to get into punk/early-emo type stuff (which a lot of people call indie now anyway) I'll add these.

Sunny Day Real Estate
Jawbreaker
Rites of Spring

also..
Neutral Milk Hotel
...and you will know us by the trail of the dead
appleseed cast
the inbreds
nada surf
quicksand

...i'm just going to stop there i guess..hah

i'd add cursive and braid, also.

I love Neutral Milk Hotel!

the best show i've ever seen was superchunk with neutral milk hotel opening for them at gabe's oasis in iowa city back in 1998. i'd never heard of neutral milk hotel but was, and still am, a huge superchunk fan and ended up taking a 4.5 hour greyhound bus ride by myself to see the show. it was ****ing amazing. people were really ****ing friendly there. great experience.

Any love for the Pixies, Sonic Youth, the Microphones, or Yo La Tengo around these parts? Also, probably would fit more under the shoegaze genre but My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Slowdive, Spacemen 3, and Spiritualized are all pretty top notch as well for fans of noisy guitars and effects pedals.

the Pixies, Sonic Youth and the Jesus and Mary Chain ALL get played frequently on my mp3 player, or in my car.

Guess you might like Glasvegas and Joy Formidable

I would strongly recommend Joe Hedges and July for Kings. Simply amazing!

anybody who liked "the promise ring" back in the late 90's/early '00's should probably check out "maritime". it's the singer/guitarist and drummer from that band and they play catchy indie-rock similar to the promise ring. nothing spectacular, but i can't get the song "the guns of navarone" out of my head.

Speaking of Sonic Youth, and JAMC, both have new albums coming out this year. MBV, in theory, have a new album coming out this year but their new album has been in the works longer than Chinese Democracy so I'm not holding my breath.

I loved "Rather Ripped", so hopefully the new one will be as good or better. I got to see those guys play with the Flaming Lips after "Rather Ripped" was release, it was awesome. I'm not holding my breath for the follow-up to "Loveless", either. It's been 18 years. Talk about being a perfectionist!

I'm hearing good things about the new "...And you will know us by the trail of dead" album. Has anyone here heard it yet?

It definitely harks back to their "wall of sound", fuzzed out Source Tags & Codes days, but it's not as good.

Better than So Divided, and probably on par, IMO with Worlds Apart.

Isis Unveiled is a great f'ng song.

sounds good. i miss their old sound. when they're on, they're deadly.

Imo, Pavement is the greatest Indie band of all time.

No love for Broken Social Scene?

I think theyre making their way up top and has actually been there for a good while, Kevin Drew is a musical genius.

I loveee Kevin Drew. But have you heard Brendan Canning's solo album? It's sooooo good. Well, it's pretty much Broken Social Scene: Part 2 though. Because they all join in ahha.
