Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Director On Designing The Metroid Armour And Bowgun. October 12, 2014 . 9:28am

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Metroid myself ever since the original NES days, and especially Super Metroid from the SNES days,” Fujioka said to Siliconera.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will let you create Samus’ Power Suit and Zero Suit as in-game gear that you can wear. In addition to her suits, you’ll also be able to use a Bowgun weapon that is based on the design of Samus’ arm cannon and even uses appropriate sound effects. Series director Kaname Fujioka told Siliconera how the team approached designing the Metroid equipment for the game.

“When you think of Samus as a character and when you think of Metroid games, the first thing that comes to mind is the arm cannon, which is such an integral part of the character,” Fujioka said. “We knew we wanted to do not just armour but also a weapon that was themed after Metroid, and go in that direction. And then it came down to what specific type of weapon would be a match for that, visually and gameplay wise.”

Fujioka continued, “We decided on the Bowgun because we thought it would look really cool if when, as you readied your weapon, the actual arm parts of the suit transformed. There is the aspect of the Metroid games where the arm cannon does change a bit when you fire different types of attacks, and that would be cool to explore—how it would look and how it would change shape when you’re about to use it. So, it seemed like a natural fit for that kind of weapon.”

Meanwhile, the sound effects for the Metroid equipment, most of which are based on the older games, came from Fujioka’s love of Super Metroid.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Metroid myself ever since the original NES days, and especially Super Metroid from the SNES days,” Fujioka revealed. “Super Metroid left such an impression on me that I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be great where even if visually it’s a 3D polygonal model in our game, what if we could use the old sound effects and make it sound a bit synthesized?’ We worked with Nintendo, who were on board and excited about it as well, so you’ll be able to hear synthesized SNES-style sound effects that go along with it, which I thought was kind of a nice homage to that title.”

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be available in North America and Europe sometime in early 2015.

So, if anyone here has Club Nintendo, you should pick up Donkey Kong '94 for the 3DS this month if you haven't. It's not a port job, but actually a full remake they did for the original Gameboy. It's been a long time since I played it, but I remember having a load of fun with it, real gem.

Free?

Edit:ohhh, Club Nintendo. I'll check later tonight.

I think I'll get 3D Kid Icarus. I missed 3D Kirby, so I hope that comes back.

Is it the 3D Kid Icarus? I thought it was regular ol' Kid Icarus.

It's the 3D Classics one, I'm pretty sure. Is that just the NES one remade in 3D? I played the original, thought it sucked pretty bad. Not like Urban Champion or Ice Climbers bad, but pretty bad.

I never cared for Kid Icarus, but I loved what they did with the 3D original Kirby. I might spend some points on it. I already got Kirby's Dream Course. That's a weird little game.

so this is 3 titles Xeno blade chronicles, FF Explorers , &Now

Here’s How Much Quicker Monster Hunter 4G Boots Up On A New Nintendo 3DS. October 14, 2014 . 2:30pm

A Nintendo 3DS owner in Japan has posted a comparison of startup times for Monster Hunter 4G on a Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 3DS XL.

A Nintendo 3DS owner in Japan has posted a comparison of startup times for Monster Hunter 4G (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in the West) on a Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 3DS XL. You can see how the two systems handle the game’s startup above.

That’s quite the difference, and one that’s understandable once you take into account that Monster Hunter 4G, like Super Smash Bros., needs to disable certain OS features such as Miiverse screenshots in order to run on a regular 3DS. On a New 3DS, however, screenshots are enabled, and users have been taking advantage of them.

New Nintendo 3DS Faceplates Sold 19,000 Units At Launch. October 17, 2014 . 10:30am

Due to the release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate last week, the two Monster Hunter faceplates were particularly popular.

Last weekend, Nintendo released the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan. The former sold 70,050 units while the latter sold a far greater amount at 164,756 units (partly because of a bundle with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate).

The primary difference between the New 3DS and New 3DS XL is the customizable faceplates, which can be applied to the smaller device, allowing you to give it some personality. Japanese sales tracker Media Create reports that around 19,000 faceplates were sold at launch , across all 38 types that were made available.

Due to the release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate last week, the two Monster Hunter faceplates (#37 and #38) were particularly popular, but the Yoshi faceplate (#4) and the wood grain faceplate (#24)—despite its higher price—proved to be popular with users as well.

Going forward, it should be interesting to see how the faceplates continue to sell. They not only provide a smart and relatively easy way to customize the 3DS hardware itself, but are also a means for publishers to promote their 3DS games.

So I've decided on getting a black and blue 3DS XL. I like the flame red one, but the blue one was calling out to me. Plus ever since Azula, I feel red isn't hot enough to be a firey color. :o

Firelord_azula.png

Are games cheaper if you download them through the eShop or more expensive? I would like to purchase Pokémon X for my first game and maybe go for OoT3D or ALBW after that. :)

They're normally the same price, but sometimes games go on sale. And the New 3DS should be out soon, so you may wanna wait.

Thanks! And as long as it's released within the November or December, I'll wait.

They said it won't come out till 2015, but no date. I would assume early 2015, cause they're already out in Japan and Australia.

Oh pooh... I'm not sure I can wait that long for one. They better be worth it. I see it has a new smaller circle pad, but what else?

Better/faster CPU, they fixed the 3D viewing, battery life is better, new circle pad and extra shoulder buttons.

It better come in colors then. Pretty-pretty colors. :atp:

Fine! I'll wait. :p

You don't have to, I'm just saying. :hehe:

Do you already have a 3DS, or was this going to be your first?

It's my first. If I wait on it, I may decide on Alpha Sapphire instead, but it just sucks I won't be able to customize my character. Even though I do like May.

The customization in X/Y isn't that great, honestly.

I've heard many things about an update to X/Y which would allow more customizations, but I don't personally believe in such dreams. :(

I was not impressed by the customization in X/Y. Not a feature I'll be missing.
