Well people (on forums) keep talking about how the New 3DS will be able to finally properly emulate SNES, GBA games, so, if that is the case, and Nintendo does finally get off its ass and do something with the virtual console, I would be more than happy to buy one of them.

I do wonder. If this thing can handle Xenoblade, could it handle a Wii Zelda game.

Imagine playing Twilight Princess on one. Or Galaxy.

It can properly emulate GBA games. I just beat Yoshi's Island last night, and I'm about to start Metroid Fusion this week. And if it can emulate GBA games, it can do SNES, as it takes more power for GBA than SNES.

The moment I saw the color scheme and heard it would be more powerful it seemed to really suggest SNES emulation was coming.

Too bad we won't see Donkey Kong Country. But there's always hope for Star Fox.

Girl PCs had more options :csad:

That aggravated me. I was hoping I could dress my character up in a fancy suit. The girls got nice dresses, but my dude can't have a suit. Such a bummer. Again, that's why I won't be missing the character customization. Neat idea, poor execution.

I wanted more hats. Why couldn't I have a backwards cap? It would have been sweet if you could get clothes that were based off of previous PCs and change the color scheme. I always loved the design of the male PC from GSC/HGSS.

I seriously have no idea what you guys are talking about. :hehe:

You guys are making it hard for me to wait now since I'm a girl and this sounds great to me. :p

Well, it emulates them in a weird way. It turns the 3DS into DS mode, which in turn makes that GBA mode. So, you can't use any of the VC features there. I've read reports of them having issues, too, like colors being more washed out than they should and not running as well as proper emulations. Presumably with the New 3DS, they can actually emulate them in a way like they do other platforms.

DKC is being released on the Wii U shop in the EU this month, and one would presume the NA release isn't too far off. Star Fox is yet to be seen on any of the VC services.

The 3DS cant emulate SNES games? Isnt that system more powerful than a PSP? A modded PSP could do that with no issues

I don't expect it to go down this time. If they're actually re-releasing it again, that tells me that whatever issues made them be took down to begin with have been resolved. It'd be pointless to do so otherwise.

But regardless, based on that, I think it's fair to say DKC has more of a chance than Starfox, since the latter has never been released.

The CPU is apparently pretty weak in the 3DS, which plays a role. I don't think it's a case of it not being able to do so. Like with the GBA, it can, but it seems like it actually might take some work to get it working properly (or in the manner of their current emualtion anyway), and since everything has basically been a straight up emulation with little modification to do so; it's probably time they just don't want to spend.

Not sure what the hold up with Star Fox is.

All I know is I am buying DKC the second it comes out.

Actually, the games run the exact same way they did on a GBA, because it's actually running on the exact same CPU. But since it takes up an entire CPU(the 3DS has 2), it can't run background functions like save states, access to the homepage, etc. Basically, it's not an emulator, it's a simulator, because for all intents and purposes, it's a DSi CPU, which is essentially a GBA, as well. So basically, there is no emulation, you're plsying the exact same game, at the same speed and function of a real GBA game. There is literally no difference.

But yes, it is different than an emulator, but it's definitely not worse than the original copies, it's actually the exact same copy...in every way shape or form.

A good question. Evidently not. Or Nintendo wasn't happy with the results of emulation.

I'm always amazed by how much power emulation requires. Just look at Dolphin. You need a computer 4 times as powerful than a Wii just to run it.

Yet they can rewrite a Wii game to work on a handheld.

Nono, it's not that its weak, it's actually stronger than
A GBA. The lower CPU is the same one from the DSi. But when it goes into GBA mode, it slows down so it can play the game properly, because if it didn't, the game would run too fast. There's a difference.

Basically, what it does, is makes itself weaker to be able to run the game properly, but it's working in the EXACT same way as your DS did when you played the GBA cartridges. Again, it's the exact same CPU, running the exact same games in the exact same way the DS did with its GBA games.

I'm actually pretty curious about that one, too. There must be some rights issue that we aren't aware of. It's weird to me that there's any rights issue with Rare about DK as well. The DK IP existed a decade or so before Rare was even around. Guess it shows how tight Rare and Nintendo were in those years, that they (maybe) let them have some right ownership over element in their own property.

Ah well, I honestly don't know for sure. I'm really only going by what I've read elsewhere. The only GBA title I ever played on a 3DS was WarioWare, and it did seem seem fine to me, but other people have reported different things, so I don't know about it for sure.

So the Ambassador games aren't actually being emulated.

Technically, it's a simulation of the DS, not a full on GBA emulator. But the lower DS CPU is basically a GBA...look, I could go more in depth, but I'm on my phone. Maybe I'll expksin better tomorrow when I get on my computer? :hehe:

But why not emulate them? Wouldn't that be easier? Or can the 3DS really not do that?

I don't think it's really a case of it not being able to do it, period, but probably more of a case of them not wanting to go the extra step and put the effort into doing so.

Devil Survivor Overclocked has me intrigued. I'll probably try picking that up.
