Can somebody explain to me why there aren't hoardes of people foaming at the mouth outside WB headquarters over the fact that SUPERMAN HAS A SON NOW?

Maybe because it was well done in SR and it is not as big a deal as you are making it out to be...just a thought.

I was psyched for Supes. I walked into that theater reassuring my accompanying friends that it was going to be great. It HAD to be great! I loved X1 and X2. I loved the first two Superman films. What could go wrong?

I can see why some people like and even love this film. It's a story about the humanity of a god. That's an interesting concept. But for me...it is better saved for a film without "Superman" in the title. Superman Returns was 2 cups of dull, a tablespoon of nostalgia, and a pinch of impressive special effects. I guess they forgot to include the dash of coherent plot.

Despite all that, my own very personal dissatisfaction arises from the lack of any real challenge for Supes. We've seen Lex and kryptonite. It's been done. And frankly, the only reason it was compelling at all in the first place was because we all knew it had to be shown. Now relying on it for a climactic struggle again some 20 years later is just patheticly boring. As far as I can recall, Supes didn't throw a single punch in the course of the entire film. There is something seriously wrong with that.

Superman Returns felt like a poor remake of the original film posing as a vague sequel. The opening, the music, the montage of good deeds, the earthquake, the ending flying smile...the whole film was an episode of deja vu. The only thing missing was the fun.

I'll keep my original Superman DVD, thank you. Superman Returns was a waste of film...

Because we're not insane.

Which people do you speak of....

the ones in Lebonon and Isreal trying not to get hit with missles?
the ones in California trying to keep thier homes from burning in the wildfires?
the ones in the New England area recovering from the severe flooding?
the ones in the gulf area still reeling from hurricane Katrina?
the ones in the Java area still recovering from tsunamies?
the ones in Baghdad getting attacked daily by suicide bombers?
the ones in the Sudan area starving to death from 20 years of drought?

I wonder too....why are they not more outraged about this world shattering development?

Because that news has been done already! This is fresh and exciting dammit!

;)

The sequel will reveal that Jason really is Richard White's son. Jason's powers are derived from Richard's secret Daxamite heritage. :p

This whole uproar about Superman having a son is funny... Remember when it was unthinkable that Clark and Lois would get married? When a writer would be fired immediately for suggesting something like Lex as president of the USA? it boggles the mind how boring and stale these characters would be if writers, artists, film directors, etc., just did what fanboys say they want.

You forget. It's okay for the comics to do it because they are comics and are held above all other mediums.

I WOULD LIKE TO RETRACT MY PREVIOUS REVIEW.

So I saw the movie again last night. What was I thinking? This film isn't too dark or depressing at all! by the end of the movie you are left smiling, and that's all that matters.

seeing it again was a much more enjoyable experience than the first viewing. I now rate it a 9!

9/10
Stay Classy!

i felt the same way after my second viewing. the first time i was just kind of like... meh, but after the second (and third, and fourth, and so on) viewings i loved it more and more.

For me the best time was probably the first one; I actually left the theater with a smile on my face, wich hardly ever happens to me to tell you the truth. I has to restrain myself from smiling shamelessly like a 4 year old with a new toy.

Good evening. I'm Ron Burgundy!

I enjoyed Superman Returns. I also enjoy a glass of scotch in the morning with my little gentleman Baxter. Baxter also agrees Superman was a ripping yarn, however in my opinion I think this film could have been better. Bryan Singer has never directed a character as light-hearted as Superman before, and I think this film shows that fact. It wasn't very fun. It was very serious and it didn't leave you with a smile on it's face all the way through. In my opinion a Superman film should fit the tone of Back To The future. Back To The Future is an example of cinematic perfection, a film the whole family can enjoy and follow. This film most likely left kids antsy for the next action scene. It probably even made them cry, with the stabbing scene.

Singer has the right idea on how to tell a Superman story. He seems to know his stuff. Hopefully the next installment will be a lot more fun.

I rated this film 7/10.
Stay Classy.

This is hilarious  Man, I almost made my name Ricky_Bobby but I didn't:(

Wow,this was quite the film.

I gave it an 8.

While some parts were corny or way too dragged out,it was a good looking film.

The twist with the kid really threw me off and kind of bugged me for some reason.

Lots of Christ-like imagery and parellels here for sure.

Well Supes was created by two Jewish guys (Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster) and many people say Jesus was Jewish, Sooooooooooooooo.....there may be truth to that. ;) :D
People say Jesus was Jewish? More like people know!

Yeah, but people forget the comics are influenced by the other media. The radio show invented "it´s a bird, it´s a plane", a lot of artists started to draw Supes similar to Reeve after Donner´s movie, Clark and Lois got married in comics after the Lois and Clark TV show.

mmm No, It was Reeve who looked exactly like the comic book Superman that was out way before the 1978 movie.

Hmmm, I wouldn´t say exactly... After him, yes, artists draw him like a carbon copy of Reeve.

Whoever gave this movie a '10' needs to stop smoking crack. Seriously... and eerily enough, most people gave it a ten. What is with you guys?
