[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Superman fans - he's back. This film delivers on all fronts. We all know that the action is through the roof, but the big question on everyone's mind is the acting, so let's start with the Man of Steel himself. Brandon Routh is my Superman. I really think he was fantastic in this film, and he was particularly strong in his Superman scenes with Kate Bosworth's Lois Lane. There's something very interesting going on in Brandon's performance. He's not simply cloning what Reeve gave us two decades ago, but he is exuding the same sort of aura that Reeve did back then. The best way that I can describe it is to say that these two are cut from the same cloth.

Kate Bosworth's performance as Lois was just as I expected - she brought a depth and vulnerability to Lois Lane that was a compelling undercurrent to the hard-nosed, almost over-confident Lois Lane from the Daily Planet press room. And rounding out the Superman trifecta, Kevin Spacey delivered a sadistic, vengeful, remorseless Lex Luthor that exudes nearly every previous incarnation of the character in some form or another, and then takes them all one villainous step further. A couple of hours after watching the film, and really internalizing who Luthor was in this movie, I'm inclined to think the setup might be there to deliver the audience a Luthor in future films the likes of which we've never specifically seen before in any medium.

The rest of the cast all came through just as strong. James Marsden turned in a superheroic performance of his own as the man who rescued Lois Lane's heart, and Sam Huntington is the Jimmy Olsen I've been wanting to see for years. There are plenty of homages to the many incarnations of Superman that have come before, and there's even more new additions to push Superman's story further along - a strong move, considering how easy it would have been to turn in a script with a relatively stagnant storyline.

Bryan Singer has delivered a Superman film that sets a strong foundation for the future of the character. This isn't really just another Superman film. This is a strong character film that is about Superman... about a God finding his place among mortals. It's a Superman that knows when to have fun, and when to take itself seriously, and hits all the right notes along the way. [/FONT]__________________

I still don´t see what´s so extremely "Un-Superman" of this movie that you seem to see. I know you enough to know it´s not the tone of red...

...no, it´s not the tone of red, but now that i think of it.....

It´s the all "sequel", "vague story".
It´s the all using the basis of a pre-crisis franchise to make a new Superman movie.
It´s using a franchise with 20 years (more or less) as template, and not restart the damn thing (like it should).
It´s the all mad cientist/thief Lex Luthor
It´s the all creating a new continent crap
It´s......a bunch of things....

And i´m not even going to the suit (that´s bitsy symbol on his chest and the small symbol on his belt, why not a symbol in the boots, while you´re at it).
Both the suit and the kid are the least of my problems...

But, one thing i can say, i do believe that is going to be a great movie...for what it is.

The die hard comic book fans would never be happy no matter what was done. You can't please everyone, and frankly he shouldn't have to try. He is the director, he is an artist and like any artist he's allowed to present his vision.
You're assuming he's not being respectful to the source material based on your opinion. His vision of Superman is shaped by the source material he respects, the original TV series and Superman the movie. Both of which are faithful to their source material , the comics of their time.

I'm working on a book,Firestorm, that has had constant moaning from some quarters because we're not doing what some fans want us to do. I should not have to be swayed by the whims of a few fans because ultimatley every one wants something different. I mean look at this board as it is so far we have multiple camps.

* Those who want a John Byrne Man Of Steel version
*Those who want a direct adaptaion of Superman: Birthright
*Those who want a version closer to Superman:the animated series
*Those who want a remade origin story
*Those who want a version of the Death of Superman, with Doomsday as the Villian
*Those who want Bizarro as the villian
*Those who want Mettalo as the lead villian
Those who want Metallo as a stooge of Lex Luthor
*Those who want Braniac as the Villian
Those who want a more comic book version of Braniac( The Coluan world mind)
*those who want a Kryptonian Braniac like S:TAM

So do you see the problem here? there are so many versions of Superman to choose from, nearly 80 years worth of stories taht it would be impossible to take everything and mesh intpo a single vision. So you have to go with the vision that the public already knows , which is Superman the movie(Which is as I type this, playing in the background on Cinemax right now)a movie that has been in constant rotation for the last 27 years and build on it.
That's why this movie will work.

Why the World Needs to See Superman!

Three things are apparent about Superman Returns: Three things are apparent about Superman Returns:

* 1. Bryan Singer is on the fast track to being a legend.
2. Kevin Spacey's only limitation is the very few projects he works on each year.
3. Brandon Routh is... Clark Kent.

Superman Returns picks up right after Superman 2, after a 5-6 year trip back to his destroyed home world of Krypton, and boy howdy have things changed when he gets back. In his absence Lois has gotten engaged, Clark Kent has supposedly been soul-searching around the world, and the world has just seemingly moved on, without him. The big question is: Does the world need a savior? The timely answer is one of the most gorgeous uses of special effects as Superman makes his grand entrance just in time to save a crashing plane. Now I don't want to give away too many of the goodies, but trust me: this film is loaded like an Easter Bunny that was planning on going on strike.

If you have any misgivings about the castings, as I've already mentioned, Brandon and Kevin are unbelievably good so count on many chills going up and down your spine. Watching them is like watching the comic come to life. Bosworth cannot be over looked, in fact - given the reaction to Katie Holmes in Batman Begins - I could envision her being the biggest gamble in the audience's mind. You'll be happy to know that she pulls it off in spades. I never once saw her as anything other then Lois Lane, it is a career defining roll for her — now she'll always be Lois. The rest of the cast did well especially Sam Huntington who plays Jimmy Olsen, he knocks that performace out of the ballpark.

Lastly, Superman Returns is coming to IMAX and I have got to tell you: bring an extra pair of shorts. It's not just good. It's not even great. It's spectacular! It will BLOW YOUR MIND! Whatever technique IMAX does to the film is just jaw dropping; Superman saving a crashing plane honestly feels like he's in the room with you. It'll be 20 minutes of the film that is converted to IMAX and I think I want to see it like 20 times. I'll see y'all in line at the IMAX theater! What a great way to start the summer! A triumphant Return!

This is all to good to be true!!! Maybe this superhero film will REALLY take the 1'st prize as the best ever made!!! Some said that it would be up along side "The Godfather", and now, with all of these crazy UPPER-POSITIVE reviews we've gotten, I'm actually begining to believe it.
